5 Days of Styling: Only Child Ryan Pants in Linen

It’s been way too long since I’ve done a proper style challenge and I am pretty excited to kick one off today! If you’re a longtime reader of Seasons + Salt you probably know, one of my very favorites ways to ‘onboard’ a new item is through wearing it for several days straight, experimenting with ways to style it. It’s a fun way to flex your creativity and learn how versatile your garment can be. It also helps you ‘get to know’ an item much quicker and gives you a handful of go-to styling ideas. The first time I did it was with a striped shirt; you can see another one I did with the Clyde jacket.

For this challenge, I’ll be styling the Ryan Pants in Linen from Only Child several days in a row. These are a high-rise pant, with an elastic waist and a slightly tapered leg. I love the silhouette of these pants so much. But what sets them apart the most are the pockets! They are deep, wide, and functional!

I am wearing the Ryan Pants in a size Medium-regular. For reference, I am 5’7 and my measurements are approximately 29″ waist and 38.5″ hips.

Note: I’m currently hosting a discount code to Only Child! You can use the code SEASONS15 to take 15% off your entire order now through May 30th. Seasons + Salt will earn a small commission from orders with the discount code (at no extra cost to you). Thank you so much for your support!

I love wearing color, but so often struggle with my outfits feeling too busy. So lately, I’ve been utilizing the 3-color rule, and I definitely kept it in mind here. I felt like black accessories with the black pants would feel too one-dimensional, so I went for brown shoes and a brown bag. I think this rich, chestnut shade of brown pairs so nicely with the soft green. Together with the black, it makes a really appealing color palette.

For this style challenge, I’ll be sharing the remainder of my looks in the ‘Currently Wearing’ section of my website. You can access that through the link, or just scroll down a touch on the homepage.

I am excited to continue wear-testing these this week. So far, I’ve been really impressed with them re: style, comfort, and wear throughout the day. They feel like my favorite sweats, but they look way more polished.

On Saturday I’ll post a recap blog post of my looks including my thoughts after wearing them for a week.

If these pants look familiar to you – you have a good eye! I styled the twill version of these back in fall 2019. I prefer the linen because they are better for warmer months and I like the texture of the fabric (and it’s easier on pet hair too!).

My discount code with Only Child is good through May 30th. I’ll be back every day between now and then with a new outfit featuring the pants! Stay tuned.

  1. So cute. I love the pockets! Looking forward to seeing all the outfit that you make. I am such a jeans girl that I am super picky about pants because I have to like them enough for them to ever be chosen over my jeans. Haha. These look lovely!

    1. I hear ya! Mega jeans fan too!! I am enjoying the change up. I wore these all weekend and really liked how they could be paired with casual items (tank and flip flops) and feel a little bit more pulled together than if I wore jeans. I think the linen makes them extra breezy and fun!

  2. I’m curious how they compare to ES Clydes in linen. Seem like almost an identical silhouette!

    1. Hi Angela, the differences I notice are that the Clydes have a wraparound pocket that goes to the back of the leg, while the Ryans have a pocket that ends at the side seam. The other major difference is my Clydes were snug on my calves, the Ryans are looser on me. A smaller difference is the seams, on the Clydes run down the center of both the back and front of the pant leg, and with the Ryans, the seams are in the traditional spots. It’s also worth noting that the Clydes are a lot harder to come by, I don’t think they are for sale new anymore.
