Closing Thoughts: 5 Days of Styling Only Child’s Ryan Pants

Style evolution is a funny thing. I truly believe the more we practice styling the better we get at it. It’s not that practice makes perfect, but more practice makes habit. A habit of analyzing outfits and garment pairings, sizing them up and deciding what we like best and why. Understanding what you like best opens up the path of fine-tuning your personal style, and allows you to confidently experiment and move in new directions when you’re ready.

I love these pants – the Ryan Pants by Only Child – but I was not ready for them when I first tried them out a few years ago. I thought they were cute, but then could not figure out how to wear them. Fast forward to this month, and I’ve been styling up a storm in them – with ease.

Here’s how I wore them:

A Few Things I Learned About Styling OC’s Ryan Pants:

>> They’re a pretty bold pant, but with slight styling tweaks you can create so many looks with them! Most of the time it was fun to let the pants do the talking, and let them be the star of the outfit. That meant a lot of simple pairings, but each one felt pretty unique.

>> I prefer the Ryans with a tucked in or cropped top. The pants are loose and full around the hips and tush, so smaller tops are a great balance.

>> Jackets work best with these pants if they are short, or mid-thigh or longer. Hip length jackets or tops feel imbalanced with these pants because the eye is drawn to the break in the outfit (where the jacket ends) and it’s at the widest point, which feels off balance.

>> I will probably wear the Ryans mostly in the spring and summer, as I do with most linen pants. It’s a bit of that capsule mentality of switching out closet items for the seasons. I enjoy the change up because it makes the old feel new again!

Where I Wore Them:

Just as much (maybe more?) than the fun style, I love how utterly comfortable these are! They can be worn for almost anything. Here is a brief, mostly-comprehensive list of what I did while wearing them:

  • Lounged around the house.
  • Spent many hours at my desk.
  • Attended a sunny Saturday soccer game.
  • Went out to a sushi dinner.
  • Walked 3.5 miles with a wiley 18-month-old puppy.

I love how wearing them makes me feel like I’m wearing something unique, (not a lot people have pants like these) and stylish (the shape is truly unique and interesting). AND zero compromise on comfort!

Last order of business: does the linen wrinkle? Yes it does, but not a ton! These are made with midweight linen and are less prone to wrinkling than the thin linen that comes from department stores of big box brands.

Just a reminder: my discount code to Only Child ends tomorrow (5/30)! It is good through the end of the day.
