Today is the VERY last day of the June 30×30 Style Challenge. In this post I’m sharing my last five outfits, revealing which of the 30 are my favorites, and noting a few key takeaway points.
It’s been really fun to host this challenge with my wonderful blogger friends, Lee of Style Bee and Paige of Style This Life. We’ve each put our own spin on it, and we approached it with a variety of goals in mind.
For me it has been really good to slow down, and examine what I already own and how I use it. I’ve been taking a look at my summer style and it’s been fun to see it come to life. I feel really, really good about 95% of the looks I’ve created over the month. Overall, two words come to mind: confident and comfortable.
I’ve also worked to slow down on the consumption and acquisition of new goods. (Though, I will admit, a few new things came in as I’ve prepped for some projects next month. Excited to share more on those soon.)
Let’s get to the final looks.
DAY TWENTY-SIX:
I planned on wearing ‘cuter’ shoes with this skirt, but ended up walking to the park with my kids and opted for maximum comfort with my old Birkenstocks. I am a big fan of this top from Only Child. It’s lightweight and breezy to wear, and the subtle pattern adds a subtle interest to this outfit. If the shirt were solid black, I probably wouldn’t have paired it with the skirt, but the pattern brings some nice visual interest. If my closet wasn’t already so full, I would definitely want this top in an additional color!
Effortless Factor: 10 – Pull on pieces that stay in place (no restricting buttons, etc.) and black always hides the messes!
SHIRT: c/o Only Child | SKIRT: c/o Bridge & Burn | SANDALS: Birkenstock (Birko-Flor style in regular width) | TOTE: c/o Fashionable
DAY TWENTY-SEVEN:
Somehow these pants seem to be magically resistant to stains. At least three separate times I’ve gotten dirty spots on them from going about my day, and each time, a little water on a cloth took it right off. It helps that they are slightly textured; dirty spots seem to have a harder time penetrating. I do still have to tug them down from time to time (which proves difficult given the zero-back-pockets situation) and I’m still weighing whether or not to have the waist taken in to nip this problem.
A note on the shoes: Several weeks ago I was jumping for joy on here, telling you guys how I had gotten a new pair of Soft Bed Birkenstocks. Well, I have done a 180 on the subject. Don’t do it! The whole reason to wear Birkenstocks is for the amazing cork footbed that molds to your foot. The original footbed is literally the most comfortable shoe to wear. The soft footbeds, however, contain a layer of foam that immensely slows down the molding-to-your-foot process. I had been wearing mine for about 5-6 weeks, and they still felt foamy, instead of forming to my foot. And also disappointing, that foam layer holds in heat, making my feet uncomfortable on the hot days. If you’re going to buy Birkenstocks, stick with the original sole. It’s worth the (short) break-in period! Thankfully, I bought my Soft Bed Birkenstocks from Nordstrom, which has an awesome return policy.
Effortless Factor: 9 – Ding for tugging.
SHIRT: old, J.Crew (love this USA made option!) | PANTS: Jesse Kamm | SANDALS: Birkenstock (leather style in narrow width) | BAG: Baggu
DAY TWENTY-EIGHT:
Gosh, I feel like I am really starting to bore you guys with my outfits this week. I am sort of starting to bore myself. In the summer, life slows down for us quite a bit, so I’ve been feeling a little less interested in outfit building. (Who am I?!) But I think it’s good for me. We have a big camping trip coming up soon and I’m looking forward to being away from mirrors and internet for awhile.
Effortless Factor: 10 – This outfit was a winning combo for me. It took me two seconds to pick out, and then not another thought. That’s the beauty of owning great pieces my friends!
SHIRT: Only Child x Seasons + Salt Alta Top | PANTS: Elizabeth Suzann (back in stock!) | SHOES: Birkenstock (leather style in narrow width) | BAG: Baggu | NECKLACE: c/o Loop Jewelry
DAY TWENTY-NINE:
Love the ease of wearing this dress. It’s so comfortable, and I love that it’s long enough that I don’t have to worry about flashing anyone. I’m still not interested in wearing it with brown shoes, but I think I’d consider blush or nude.
Effortless Factor: 10 – My only consideration was not wearing contrasting undergarments.
DRESS: Pyne & Smith Clothiers | SHOES: c/o Avarcas Canada | BAG: c/o Fashionable
DAY THIRTY:
I had to snap this pic a day early so I could include it in the post. So, as I’m writing this, I haven’t officially worn it yet (but plan to!). I finally styled this jumpsuit with something other than Birkenstocks and I quite like it. The wide legs on this are super fun, and it’s another one of those easy, one-piece dressing looks. I also think nude shoes would look really good here.
Effortless Factor: 9 – Anticipating a few trips to the bathroom…

FAVORITE 30×30 OUTFITS:
1 – Love the simplicity of this outfit, and the fact that I turned one of my old tank tops into a crop with a simple knot. I also love how good these pants make me feel when I wear them, throwing them on is a quick way to feel like I am dressed nicely, without having to put in too much thought or effort. shirt | pants | sandals | bag
2 – I can’t quite put my finger on why I like this one so much. It feels like a modern nod to the 90’s. The white is a crisp, button-up with vintage jeans and tennis shoes. I really like the balance between dressy and casual here. shirt | jeans (vintage) | shoes (similar) | bag, c/o
3 – Love. This is my top outfit of the 30×30. I love how casual-chic it is and the warm tones make me really happy. The un-tucked top is unexpected for me and I love how it played out. shirt (similar) | jeans (vintage) | sandals
4 – This is another look that plays the tension between dressy and casual very nicely. The dress and long cardi are toned down by the tennies and backpack. It’s a fun and chic look. dress (similar) | cardigan (similar) | shoes (similar) | backpack, c/o
5 – This was an unexpected winner to me. I love the color palette and the added interest from the linen tassel necklace. chambray (similar) | white top | jeans (vintage) | mules, c/o | necklace, c/o
STYLE TAKEAWAYS:
-
Defined waistlines when wearing pants is important to me.
-
Knotted and tied shirts make me happy.
-
Color palettes are extremely important to me. I often prefer complementary ones to contrasting ones.
-
Olive green pants were a fantastic addition to my closet.
-
I love nude shoes.
IN CONCLUSION:
I feel like I wore the dickens out of all the pieces I included, and most days getting dressed was pretty easy. I swapped in an extra sweater when it was cold, and I swapped out a long sleeve linen top for a second jumpsuit (can’t live without my Lou!).
Overall, I felt 30 was kind of an awkward number. It was big enough to accommodate a lot of options, and therefore limited the struggle where creativity is born. But 30 was also just small enough to be annoying. I felt weird going a whole month with a few perfectly good items that weren’t getting worn.
In conclusion, I think a shorter duration/number of items would serve my goals a little better. But I’m glad I did it, it was fun to work with these fabulous ladies (Paige and Lee) and it was great to connect with some of you guys on Instagram and see your perspective on the challenge.
You made it! My closet is actually pretty slim (not 30 garments-slim, but very slim in terms of what I can actually wear in the blistering heat) and I already feel constricted, so I don’t know if I could do this! I may jump on board on a 10×10 in the future though.
I love your final look, by the way, it’s a beautiful one to finish the challenge!
Thank you Krystal! I appreciate your feedback. The temps have jumped here too, and I agree there are VERY few things I want to wear. (I have this weird phobia of farmers’ tans, which doesn’t help!) I finally ordered a pair of linen shorts, so I think those will be a great team player in the heat. ;)
TGIF, and happy long holiday weekend! :-)
Love all these outfits this week. The Birkenstocks look great with the first one. I think olive green pants are a great addition too. They are one of the few non maternity items of mine that I am really missing this spring/ summer season.
Cheers on a great challenge!
Hi Jodie! Hope you and your sweet family had a relaxing Fourth! :)
Thank you! I am a total Birkenstock addict. It is taking a lot of restraint right now for me to not buy them in a lighter color. They are just SOOOO comfortable!! They are all I want to wear it seems!
I love your top five looks! They are great summer outfits, neutral but still bright and cheery. I’m surprised only one dress made it in, and no shorts or skirts for faves, but maybe your weather allows that. In humid Michigan summers, I wear skirts to work as much as possible (like I should probably remember to never buy another pair of capris ever again) and shorts on the weekend. I love my legs to be freeeee and will add a comfy cardigan or hoody if I need a layer. And sometimes a blanket on my legs in office air conditioning, lol.
Anne, if I had done this challenge in July, things would have been different! June in Oregon is pretty cool still, so the heat hadn’t ratcheted up yet! It’s toasty now! And my jeans are def moved to the back of my closet! Agreed, it is nice to have the legs freed. And my most favorite thing to free: my FEET! I love wearing sandals!!
I love your top 5…I think the jeans and white shirt is my favorite, but the Kamm pants with the white tank is a close second (maybe even tie). And your jumpsuit with the brown shoes is perfect! Funny, I love brown shoes and rarely, rarely wear black or nude, so I would totally wear every outfit from this week with those brown huraches!
Thanks for encouraging me to do the challenge – it’s been the perfect jumpstart to summer for me!
I’m so glad you did it friend! I have loved watching your style shine.
It is funny how we land on opposite sides of shoe color. Black shoes can definitely feel too serious sometimes! I feel like I wear them a lot in the winter out of necessity, because it’s so rainy here! In the summer I tend toward lighter ones…
I became tired after 3 weeks (and also my period kicked in) and I totally agree with your last point. I’m way better with a smaller period and smaller number. I didn’t end up wearing all my garments, but deeply missed others.
I did however, like the curated feel to my wardrobe. And the added pressure to wear some items more, because of the period. So I’ll work on keeping that feeling
Agree! A curated feeling is very nice. There are definitely tradeoffs (literally) that come to get there. I am so glad you participated!
The perfectly good clothes sat not being worn is what puts me off these challenges. We have a short summer in the U.K. And choosing not to wear my much loved, carefully chosen clothes when I have the chance seems silly!
I can totally see that perspective Rachel, especially with a short summer in sight!
