Spring Preview + Voluntary Simplicity

Spring 2016Spring 2016-4Spring 2016-3

Today’s post is brought to you by: Andrea’s Spring Fever. We have had several sunny days this week and I just can’t stop thinking about spring and summer. I’m looking forward to simpler outfits, free toes and days that don’t require jackets.

I’m still working on my 20 items for 21 days, and trying to do it with joy :-) But today, I thought I’d break up the routine and share a little preview of what I have in my closet for the coming warmer months.

If there’s something I’ve learned lately it’s the versatility of layering. I never would have thought to put a sweater over a dress six months ago. For some reason God made me a very black and white thinker so it takes me a little longer to find the ‘outside the box’ ideas. This awesome cashmere sweater (first one I’ve ever owned!) is soft and warm, and makes my summer dress span another season. I scored this Loveappella dress second-hand last summer, and this USA brand also makes sweet jumpsuits. Obviously, I can’t get enough of my Natalie Borton necklace (thanks girl!) It is the perfect third item to many outfits. Lastly, I seriously love this bag from Madewell. I’ve used it almost constantly for the past 14 months, but I encourage you to check out this one, made by women in Ethiopia. Put your dollars to good use and change someone’s life. You’re going to spend them anyway, so consider spending them in a way that’s a little more impactful.

Speaking of impactful, I read this amazing quote by John Kabat-Zinn yesterday and I can’t stop thinking about it:

Voluntary simplicity means going fewer places in one day rather than more, seeing less so I can see more, doing less so I can do more, acquiring less so I can have more.

How Incredibly powerful is that? Some food for thought to leave you with today.

  1. Love that quote – that’s the best way of putting it that I’ve ever heard. For me, living with less has really meant living with more, and living more.

    1. I just can’t stop thinking about it! It’s compelling me to think about a lot of other areas of my life right now. Gorgeous blog by the way!

  2. I like that quote. February was a very busy month, coupled with mourning the death of a friend and illness. It made me realize how important it is to have enough time and energy squared away to be fully present in each moment. It’s not enough to just DO, I want to be totally aware of the time I have with people. Also, the weather here is unbelievably awesome and I haven’t had much time to enjoy it!

    I loooove that sweater.

    1. Oh Leah, this sweater is actually exceeding my expectations! It’s so wonderful!

I am sorry to hear about your friend. I can so related to what you said, we DO so much, but it is a differently thing entirely to be aware and in the moment. I have a hunch the more we practice the easier it could become…
