3 Non-Denim Outfit Ideas for Spring

I am a denim-lover for life… but the warmth of a gentle spring day is enough to lure me out of my most favorite pairs of jeans. When the sun is overhead and shining brightly, it feels so good to throw on something that fits the mood.

I’ve been pinning away my favorite spring looks, and I thought I’d have a little style session to see what I could come up with! You can catch the companion Reel over on Instagram.

#1: Thrifted Trousers

These were a stellar Value Village score last spring. They are Dockers, circa the 1990’s, that still had tags. I found them in the men’s section, but I am pretty sure they are women’s. This is the first time I’ve worn them cuffed, and I love them this way! These pants are super soft, have a fun shape and are really comfortable to wear. Not to mention they are awesome-ly unique. I paired them with a fitted, cropped top to help balance the bottom. BUT, I think they’d look cute with an oversized sweater too, like this.

#2: Monochrome w/Utility Pants

Gosh, we are deeply in the territory of repeating trends. I remember buying and wearing white Dickies painter pants as part of my uniform at the pizza restaurant I worked at in high school. AND I remember wearing carpenter jeans from the Gap in high school. I guess you could say I am officially that many years old! When I looked at these pants after taking the photos, I had a flood of memories! Part of the reason why trends are so fun (and probably so popular) is that it’s a little bit like reliving part of your youth. I love re-visiting nearly any trend I wore in high school. It’s not that it makes me feel young – it does a little bit – it’s that it reminds of the feeling of being on the cusp of something fresh and new.

Ecru pants have been on my spring wish list and they have been surprisingly hard to find. I stumbled across these at my local Aritzia and was pretty excited about the way they fit. (And the contrast stitching detail!) I look forward to pairing them with crisp white tanks, shirts and tees all summer. For this outfit, I wish I had an oversized t-shirt instead of a fitted one. If you know of a good one, let me know!

OUTFIT DETAILS:
Tee, old
Greenwich Pant, (I took the smaller of my two sizes), color: Whisper White/Chasm
Loafers, size down by 1/2
Woven Tote
Sunnies, Ray-Ban

#3: Slip Dress

A slip dress was on my list for summer, but I jumped on this one a little earlier than planned when Jenni Kayne had a 20% off sale. It is just as chic and lovely as I imagined! The fit, drape and movement are unlike any dress I own. After my Reifhaus jumpsuit, this dress is probably the most effortless thing I’ve ever put on my body. It’s like an automatically chic outfit. I love how the slides echo the 90’s vibe of the dress. I added a little cardigan to keep warm.

A little warning: it is dry cleaning only and a strapless bra is needed. I decided I liked it enough to deal with the dry cleaning issue. It fits really loose, even under the arms, so hoping I can wear it many times between washes. As for the bra issue, I finally ordered a strapless bra from Pepper. Hoping it is the one!
