My Spring 2022 Capsule

Happy (almost) Spring!! The early flowers and leaf buds are popping and I am ready to awake from my winter sartorial slumber.

Not that I’ve been in an actual slumber, more I’ve been in a ‘winter-stay-warm’ preservation mode. Now, like the flowers, I am ready to shoot forth with vibrance and bold shapes. In my closet that is. I touched on this briefly in my Currently Wearing series, but I recently realized that when the seasons change (particularly toward spring), my sense of style gets taken for a bit of a joy ride. Seemingly overnight I start feeling emboldened to experiment with color and shapes more than ever. And it feels intoxicating.

Unfortunately, last spring my desire ran unchecked and, in a covid-haze, I purchased and experimented so much that I lost my way a bit. I ended up with items that weren’t ultimately ‘me’ that I later sold or gave away. This year, I am entering the season armed with new knowledge and some soft parameters. For my color expansion, I plan to keep to a family of shades within one core color: green. And for my shape experimentation, I will stick to oversized jeans and trousers. It feels simple, but I expect it will still be impactful and fun.

Before we dive into my spring capsule, a few notes. It truly looks a lot like my winter one with some smallish changes. In Oregon, spring is still quite chilly. We don’t see truly warm temperatures until the end of May. For the next three-ish months, I have swapped out heavier sweaters for cotton ones, turtleneck sweaters for crew neck ones, boots for sneakers, and I will even be able to wear some long sleeve tops on warmer days. I will eventually move my heaviest coats to a spare closet, and make the most of trench weather.

All images below are shoppable links.

Tops

After a winter diet of heavy sweater use, I am happy to swap in some tops! My most recent purchase is a bright green striped top. I bought my oversized one from Aritzia, and I linked another option in the graphic below. You’ll note my heavy emphasis on white button up shirts. These are truly a staple for me and they are all different! One is very oversized, one is an oxford, one has a ruffle collar and one has puffy sleeves! *Edited 3/15 to add a chambray peterpan collar top.*

Sweaters + Sweatshirts

You can see my clearly defined color palette here, I love my taupe, cream and black! As it warms up, I’ll use some of these pullover sweaters and sweatshirts as a third piece, draped across my shoulders.

Bottoms

I am having a ball with pants this year, in all the shapes and colors that they come in! All of these are the exact pairs I own with the exception of the white denim, wide leg jeans and black trousers (though the latter two are on my radar for checking out this spring). *Edited 3/15 to add full-length Madewell jeans.*

Shoes

It’s always hard to narrow down which shoes I want to wear, but these are the pairs I have been gravitating toward lately. It’s all sneakers, all the time and I’m very happy about that. Heeled booties come out on special occasions only. *Edited 3/28 to add full-length Reformation Loafers.*

Dresses/Jumpsuits

This category is new for my spring capsule. I didn’t include any ‘one piece’ items in the winter. I am excited to reunite with my overalls and one of my favorite dresses. (Mine is older, so I’ve linked a similar one down below.)

Jackets

My favorite part about transitional weather is the ability to wear different jackets! Trenches are my ABSOLUTE favorite, so I’ve included two iterations here. A taupe one that goes with everything, and a black one that is slightly padded for warmth. And, of course, a few blazers! My favorite oversized black one AND that sweet leather one I thrifted (linked to a similar one below).

A few items not pictured:

Reifhaus Jeans, Bryr Clogs, Vintage Henley, Aritzia Button Up, Ribbed Leggings (coming soon!), Ganna Shirt Jacket, Vetta Reversible Satin Midi Skirt

Evergreen Accessories / Sunglasses, Jewelry, Bags

Below is my core collection of the accessories I wear each week, and some even daily! Gold hoops are my staple, in all sizes. I have worn my croissant pair for the last 2-3 years, I love the texture that they add to an outfit. For sunglasses, Ray-Ban is my go-to. And when building an outfit, I love to include a bag that complements my color palette – I love to pair cognac bags with black outfits and black bags go with everything under the sun.

Spring Wish List:

There are a few items I haven’t purchased yet, but I am considering adding this spring:

– The newly released Mel Jumpsuit from Alex Mill has me very excited. I love the full length, straight leg, patch pockets and tie waist. I just need to decide between black and green.
– I love, love the new oversized checked blazer from Everlane. I am just trying to decide if I wear blazers enough to buy it.
– A maxi dress is on my list for the spring, and I might scoop this one up when Shopbop has their spring sale.
– This cropped, vintage-y hoodie. Anine Bing makes the best sweatshirts.
– And lastly, this woven bag with a dual-strap situation seems like the perfect do-it-all bag (would sell my Dragon Diffusion bag in this case).

On the Way:

I have a few items on the way from orders/brand partnerships that I haven’t tried yet, but am excited to check out and add to my capsule if they are a good fit: taupe trousers (bought) and these jeans (gifted). I’ll be sure to make updates to this page if I add them to my closet! In the meantime, feel free to let me know if you have questions about any of the items or are curious about sizing. See you over on Currently Wearing with the outfits!

  1. Love them all. I have been debating on jumpsuits and still up in the air about them for me personally.

So, I guess I can leave comments after all.🤷🏽‍♀️

    1. YAY! I am so glad. 😅 Jumpsuits are so cute, but I think finding the right one is hard. I love the idea of matching separates for a faux jumpsuit!
