Hello September!
In a world where it feels like life paused in mid-March, it’s hard to believe we’re turning the calendar to September. In some ways, it makes me want to sob. In other ways, I want to cling to whatever I can to feel normal and good. Right now, getting dressed makes me feel normal, and working out makes me feel good, so I am prioritizing those things every single day.
I am certainly eager to embrace the fall-inspired part of my closet, but summer ain’t over yet, so I’m going to choose to continue to live in the moment as long as I can. Afterall, blue sunny skies and balmy temps are certainly worth celebrating. With that in mind, I’ve brainstormed a few outfit formulas to satisfy my craving for summer AND fall.
#1 – Long Sleeves + Shorts + Mules

Top, old (similar) / shorts (27) / Mules (10), c/o
I know I’ve touted this one before, but it’s a great ‘gateway’ outfit to fall! You can bring in a lightweight, fall-toned long sleeve, your fav shorts and some closed-toed shoes, and suddenly your look feels less ‘July’ and more ‘September.’ It’s a nice way to feel like life is moving forward even when we’re kind of in Groundhog’s Day mode.
#2 – Tank + Jeans + Sandals

Tank / Belt / Jeans (27) / Bracelets
There are approximately five or fewer days per year when the weather cooperates for this ensemble. Seize the day!!
On a totally different note, how do you guys feel about baggy jeans? I feel like I’m seeing them everywhere right now. I love the way they look on other people but, I admit, seeing them on myself is hard, because it’s a break out of that mindset of ‘smaller is better.’ Sometimes the most stylish combination isn’t always the most ‘body con,’ and I’m okay with that. We will see if it holds deeper into the cold weather.
#3 – All the Lightweight Pants

Tee / Trousers, c/o (currently 25% off!) / Classic Slides, c/o
Guys, all winter we live in thick pants and jeans, NOW is the time to wear all our lightweight bebes. All those pretty tencel and linen pants demand your attention. They are perfect for transitional weather. And they are easy to style too because pants always, always look super cute with sandals.
A few more ideas:
While I love dressing for transitional weather, it definitely requires a little more effort or forethought. Other formulas could be: shorts and cotton sweaters, dresses and sneakers, skirts and ankle boots, and I am sure there are more! Happy seasonal dressing!
I have to admit I was sooooo disappointed when I saw we are having another (final?!?!) heatwave next week in the PDX area. I am so over the heat and ready for the cool temperatures to stay!
I was surprised to see that too!! Looks SUPER hot, I’m a little nervous haha… But maybe one last hurrah is what we need to get us through the winter!
Those jeans look soooo cute. I think they still look intentional, not too big. And honestly, they bring me fabulous 90’a vibes and the way I always wished my jeans had fit back then!!
Eep! Thanks for the feedback J! I like how fresh it feels to wear a different shape of jeans!
I have been wearing summer-weight pants and shorts all season. I am kind of dreading putting on the jeans with buttons because I KNOW they’re gonna be t i g h t!!!
I wouldn’t say those are “baggy.” I love that they are making retro jeans that actually fit like I wish they had back then. Very much the “cool girl about town” look I love.
