What I Wore: Experimenting With Cold Weather Fashion

This winter (okay, it’s still fall, but it feels like winter) I’ve been experimenting with clothing styles a little more than I usually do. When it’s cold, it’s really easy for me to get stuck in a rut of wearing the same thing each day (sweater and jeans). So I’ve been pushing back by playing with new shapes: baggy jeans, high neck blouses, and chunky shoes. I’m having a lot more fun getting dressed AND I’m still staying warm.

Here’s what I’ve been wearing…

L’Envers Sweater

I shared a little write up on this sweater last week. It’s super warm, and I love how oversized the sleeves are, it makes me feel fancy.

OUTFIT DETAILS:

Juliette Sweater* (Beige), c/o L’Envers (*Use code SALT for free shipping)
Shirt, stolen from husband (similar)
Jeans, Vintage Levi’s (501) (similar)
Ralf Boot (10), Freda Salvador
Classic Shoulder Bag, Cuyana
Hollow Hoops, Bagatiba

Trying out KOTN

I finally got around to trying out the brand KOTN! They’ve been on my radar for a bit, and I will say, they’ve exceeded my expectations. Their cotton tops are soft and thick, with full length sleeves, which can be hard to find. I love clothing created to withstand cold weather. This top is a great base layer. So far, I’ve worn my cream Babaà and this cardigan over it.

OUTFIT DETAILS:

Square Neck Tee (M), c/o KOTN (this color sold out, but you can still get the Fitted Henley in Camel)
90’s Jean (27), AGOLDE (size down)
Boots, (10), Freda Salvador

Thanksgiving Day Outfit

sezane white blouse

This is what I wore on Thanksgiving after I was finished cooking. My house was nice and toasty with the oven going so I could wear a thin blouse with ease. I have been on the hunt for the perfect “frilly, but not too frilly” white blouse for the last year to replace a beloved cream blouse. I think I’ve finally found it!

OUTFIT DETAILS:

Iona Blouse, Sézane (US6)
Bootcut Jeans, Everlane (28 – this color runs big)
Mariella Mule, c/o Nisolo (10)
Medallion Necklace, Missoma

Favorite Final Layer

This fall I decided to sell my (very fitted) Patagonia down parka and replace it with an oversized-fit Puffy Puff jacket from Everlane. Hands down, it is the best coat purchase I’ve made in awhile. It’s extremely lightweight while being quite warm. But not so warm you can’t wear it on mild days. It’s the perfect ‘everyday’ jacket for a mild-to-cold winter. Most days, I layer it over a sweater or a mid-layer jacket since we’ve hit our chilly season. On really cold days I wear a fleece under it. It’s extremely comfortable because it’s not heavy and it’s nice and loose, which means I can comfortably layer it over almost everything I wear (including a wool Babaà!). It has a string that you can cinch up at the bottom to create a puffier look (if you want) and keep in more heat!

OUTFIT DETAILS:

Puffy Puff (M), Everlane
Cardigan no19 (one size), Babaà Knitwear
Teddy Crew Neck Sweater (M), c/o Everlane
Medallion Necklace, Missoma
Skinny Bootcut, c/o Everlane (28)
Boots, (10), Freda Salvador

Johnny Cash

When it’s dark and cold in the morning and you get dressed to match the day.

OUTFIT DETAILS:

Cardigan no19 (one size), Babaà Knitwear
Alpaca Crew (M), c/o Everlane
Bootcut Jeans, Everlane (28 – this color runs big)
Boots, (10), Freda Salvador
Classic Shoulder Bag, Cuyana
Hat, Jackson in Velous Felt, c/o Brookes Boswell

Nod to High School

I am not an early adopter to trends. I tend to reject most of them. But sometimes, after seeing them several times over, I become intrigued and want to join the ranks. Platforms are having a moment, for sure, and I’ve finally been bitten by the bug. I love that you can style them with an otherwise demure outfit (turtleneck and cardigan) an add some sass. No regrets here.

OUTFIT DETAILS:

Claude Cardigan* (S/M), L’envers *Use code SALT for free shipping
Pima Micro Rib Turtleneck, Everlane (M)
Jeans, Vintage Levi’s (501) (similar)
Platform Boots, Dr. Martens (9 – runs big)

PS – Did you wear Dr. Martens in high school? I did, and it feels so nostalgic to wear them again!

PPS – These are like walking on clouds!

    1. I have been really enjoying them! Even though I feel like I am wearing moon shoes sometimes, hahaha. KOTN is fab!!! You should check them out!!

    1. Thank you LO, I really, really like it. The wrists are a little bit stretchy, so it makes it a lot easier to get on and off. (And for some reason your comment went to my spam folder, I’m so sorry!)

  1. Hi Andrea! What are your thoughts on the cheeky bootcuts vs. the skinny bootcuts? Debating another Everlane denim purchase… Thank you for all your thorough reviews, they help me SO much.

  2. Hi! I also have that KOTN shirt, but I find that my bra straps always show a bit on the sides. Do you have this same problem?
