10 Days of Outfits: Cognac Affair

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve shared an outfit roundup, so there are quite a few looks in today’s post. I’ve been on a bit of a brown bender, and I am fully embracing the amber, cognac, cider, sienna, ochre, rust, whatever you want to call it, version of the color. I have no regrets.

On a side note: Since moving into our new house, I’ve been experimenting with how I photograph my outfits. Our home was built in the 1960’s and, while it has been beautifully maintained and renovated, it doesn’t have a lot of light! Cloudy, overcast days are particularly dark inside. Thus this post is a mix of tripod photos and mirror selfies as I experiment to see what works best. If you have a preference, I’d love to hear down below in the comments.

Alright, on to the outfits. Here’s a look at what I’ve been wearing over the last two weeks…

Oversized Blazer

everlane oversized blazer

I feel like such a grown up when I wear a blazer, and in the best way possible. These older boots have been getting a ton of wear lately, since I finally got them to the cobbler for a proper, grippy sole. Never underestimate the importance of shoe care!

OUTFIT DETAILS:

Oversized Double Breasted Blazer, 4, c/o Everlane
Soft Cotton Crew (M), Everlane
Liza High Waist Straight Leg Jean (28), Reformation (altered to be shorter)
Chelsea Boots (9.5) , Everlane
Square Tote, c/o Minor History

New Jumpsuit Day

I recently popped into North of West to visit their Happy Returns bar. And while they were processing my Everlane return, a few items caught my eye. Then I proceeded to spend the next 30 minutes trying on all their fall arrivals (so good!). It felt so weird to shop in person! In this day of online shopping it almost feels like an inconvenience to have to take your shoes and clothes off in a dressing room. But it was fun to check out this Portland-based brand in person. I can’t believe I haven’t made a purchase from them sooner! Their products are well-priced, and all of their garments are made in the USA, many of them in Portland. They even know all the details on where a lot of their fabrics are sourced and milled. If you’re local, you might want to give them a visit. Or you can check them out online too!

I ended up buying the jumpsuit, the top and the sweater, and they are all so, so good!!

OUTFIT DETAILS:

Steps of Morgan Mockneck (M), North of West
Carmen Jumpsuit (M), North of West
Pebble Knit Jacket (M), North of West

Everlane Teddy Crew Neck Sweater

everlane teddy sweater

This is the new teddy crewneck from Everlane that many of you have asked me about it. It’s very soft, and very cozy. It’s like a fleece but less casual. I can’t stop wearing it. I’ll be sharing a video review on my Instagram stories later today.

Teddy Crew Neck Sweater (M), c/o Everlane
Jeans, vintage Levi’s 517’s, Etsy

I love, loved wearing this outfit. I felt chic and pulled together for an event downtown. I was completely comfortable because I had on flat boots and stretchy jeans! I am sharing a video review of this top and jeans on my Instagram stories later today.

Mockneck Flannel Shirt (6), c/o Everlane
Skinny Bootcut Jeans (28), c/o Everlane

everlane oversized cocoon coat

Who says bundling up doesn’t have to be fun? I love the way the colors of this scarf and jacket go together. And I love that I can fit this coat over my chunkiest of sweaters.

Scarf, Acne Studios
Cardigan no19 (one size), Babaá Knitwear

Sailor Pant Reveal

I tried to quit these pants, but it didn’t work. After a few months of them collecting dust I decided to list them for sale on Noihsaf Bazaar, but nobody bit! That surprised me, but also made me consider giving them another shot. The tough thing about Kamm pants is that they are an exact fit. Which means if you’re experiencing any kind of bloat or weight gain they are not fun to wear. On this particular day I felt good in them! We will see if they stick around….

OUTFIT DETAILS:

Alpaca Cardigan, from Zady, FW’16 (very similar)
Short-Sleeve Turtleneck (M), c/o Everlane
Kamm Pants (6) in Tobacco
Ralf Boot (10), Freda Salvador (similar)
Medallion Necklace, Missoma

More Shameless Repeating

As you can probably tell it’s been pretty cold here, hence the sweaters and high-neck shirts. I’ve enjoyed playing around with layers, as I aim to get better at styling them. I’ve found that a simple color palette is key to making the layers work for me. It helps the outfit not feel too busy or fussy.

OUTFIT DETAILS:

Pebble Knit Jacket (M), North of West
Steps of Morgan Mockneck (M), North of West
Skinny Bootcut Jeans (28), c/o Everlane
Chelsea Boots (9.5) , Everlane

90’s Affair

I’ve been thinking a lot about the words I used to name my style (as mentioned in this recent post), casual, cool with a 70’s vibe. I think my adoration for the 70’s and vintage also includes the 90’s, as demonstrated above. I received this jacket in trade from Hackwith Design House for some work I did for them and I love how it feels both modern and vintage at the same time! I feel like I might belong in a vintage L.L.Bean catalog when I wear it, but it also has nice lines and big pockets which make it feel very ‘of the moment to me.’

OUTFIT DETAILS:

Pierre Jacket (XS/S), c/o Hackwith
Teddy Crew Neck Sweater (M), c/o Everlane
90’s Jean (27), Agolde (super similar to real vintage!!)
Made in USA Center Hi Top, PF Flyers (women’s 10)

  1. I love all of these and I’m so jealous that you get so many Clothing items gifted to you from Everlane! I have yet to make my first purchase but seeing all your thoughtful outfits I’m excited to try a few things in the future. ❤️

    1. Aww, I am glad that I can help give you styling ideas. I am very thankful for the opportunity to work with Everlane! They have a lot of great stuff.

    1. Thank you!! They were both such an unexpected find for me! I have kept my eye on this brand over the years, and this season their collection has really resonated with me. So many cute, well-fitting pieces!

  2. I live in Portland too and I gotta say, the high 50’s, low 60’s temps we’ve been having do not qualify as cold to me. more like very mildly cool. When temps finally started dropping yesterday, I was so happy! But it’s all relative. Your outfits look great!

    1. Thanks Tamara! It might feel colder because we are walking our kids into class each morning before 8, and it can be pretty chilly in the AM! Also, a big change for us, we recently moved from a townhouse to a single family home, and the latter isn’t nearly as warm! So sweaters and layers it is.
