7 Days of Outfits: the Repeating Palette

From bare toes to thick sweaters, it is truly pre-spring weather in Oregon. I wore the same color palette three days this week, and I love it. I didn’t even notice until I sat down to write this post. My husband sort of guffawed when he looked into my closet the other night and saw more than a half a dozen white/cream shirts lined up together. I simply told him that I knew what I liked.

This week I added a pair of tennis shoes, and I’m likely subtracting a pair of pants.

Here’s what I wore…

 MONDAY:

Denim Jacket, Levi’s (similar) | Denim Jumpsuit (M), REIFhaus (same in organic triple gauze cotton) | Bucket Bag, the Stowe | Birkenstocks

I had to pull off an impromptu pedicure last week because our temperatures crested 70 degrees! It felt amazing. I jumped at the chance to don one of my favorite items that’s been awaiting balmier temps. I have this jumpsuit in denim and linen, but it was just released in triple gauze cotton, which sounds like a dream.

Style Notes: Much like my vintage 501’s, this jumpsuit is a bit of a style touchstone for me. I felt great wearing it, and my shrunken jean jacket was the perfect topper, balancing out the voluminous piece.

Style Score: 10

TUESDAY:

Waffle Knit Sweater (M), Everlane | Jeans, Vintage Levi’s (501) (very similar) | Clog Boots, No.6 (similar)  | Bucket Bag, the Stowe | Necklace, gift from husband

Style Notes: I love a good black and cream combo, especially with some mid-wash denim in the middle. I felt comfortable and warm in this outfit, and I’ll surely repeat it.

Style Score: 10

WEDNESDAY:

Cybil Wrap, c/o Yala Designs (made in the USA) | U-Neck Tee (M) (favorite!), Everlane | White, Modern BF Jeans (28, with altered waist), Everlane | Isa Boot, c/o Nisolo | Bucket Bag, the Stowe | Coin Necklace, Nashelle

This wrap keeps surprising me. It’s definitely a little mainstream for my taste, but I keep reaching for it due to the color and cozy factor. I find on most days I either want a super neutral palette (creams, blacks, grays, etc.) or I want to add a warm color to what I’m wearing. This sweater is a soft, blushy-brown that looks good with almost all my pants. Bonus: it makes my skin look good too.

Style Notes: This outfit was comfortable and effortless to wear. I will probably wear it again.

Style Score: 9

THURSDAY:

Waffle Knit Sweater, c/o Everlane, sold out, (similar) | Jeans, Rag & Bone, sold out | High Top Cons, thrifted (LOVE this USA made option) | Bucket Bag, the Stowe

Style Notes: When this outfit started it was a bit boring. At first, I just had the sweater and pants. To kick things up I decided to add my leather jacket (on a random Thursday afternoon, because, why not?) and a front tuck to my sweater. It instantly gave the look some punch and me a little bit more comfort in my clothes

Style Score: 9.5

FRIDAY:

Waffle Knit Sweater (M), Everlane | Jeans, vintage Levi’s 505’s, Etsy | Boss Boot (10.5), c/o Everlane | Bucket Bag, the Stowe | Necklace, gift from husband

Style Notes: A repeat of Tuesday’s outfit with a few subtle shifts: different vintage jeans, and different black boots. Love this combination! These boots often feel too dressy so I don’t wear them. However, the baggy jeans + baggy sweater combo called for something daintier than my go-to clog boots. Mixing the dressy boots with the casual garments brought balance to both elements. This looked served me well, from running kids around town, to a date night with my husband and friends.

Style Score: 10

SATURDAY:

Leather Jacket (S), Reformation x Veda | Raglan Sweater, old | Jeans, Vintage Levi’s (501) (very similar) | Sneakers (41), Veja (featuring fair trade cotton and rubber, made in Brazil) | Bucket Bag, the Stowe | Sunglasses, Ray-Ban | Pyramid Studs, Zoe Chicco

Saturday was a great day, Mr. Seasons and I celebrated 11 years of being married with a weekend to ourselves. We did a few boring, grown-up things like car repairs, but we also took time for some relaxing meals out, including a fabulous dinner at Tusk. (See bonus outfit below!)

During the day I wore an easy, weekend outfit, including a new pair of Veja’s. I decided to try them again, this time in the low profile shape. My first pair was too high for my ankles, and I could never get them to be comfortable. I like that these are all white, and the style feels a bit more ‘me’ than the first pair I tried. I am a big fan of converse, but I like leather sneakers too because they’re a bit warmer on cold days and hold up better to the rain. Excited to break these in over the next few weeks.

Style Notes: This is the third time this week I’ve worn a cream/black/blue color palette and I’m not mad about it. I love the casual-sporty combo of a leather jacket and sneakers. I would have preferred to skip the socks, but they were needed for breaking in the shoes.

Style Score: 9.5

SATURDAY NIGHT:

Leather Jacket (S), Reformation x Veda | Relaxed Silk Shirt (6), Everlane | Jeans, Vintage Levi’s (501) (very similar) | Day Heel (10.5), Everlane | Ilhan Earrings, Seaworthy (made in Portland)

A swap of shirt/shoes/earrings made for the easiest dinner outfit! I find whenever I stick to the keep-it-simple mantra my outfits are the most successful. This one is no exception!

Style Score: 10

SUNDAY:

Alpaca Cardigan, Zady (sold out)  | Chambray, old J.Crew (similar in relaxed fit) | Wide Leg Crop (4), Everlane| Boss Boot (10.5), c/o Everlane | Bucket Bag, the Stowe

Well, I have all kinds of mixed feelings about this one. I think it’s time for these pants to go. I rarely love how I feel in them or the outfits I build with them. I know a ton of people love these pants but, for me, I prefer the button fly and longer inseam of Kamm’s. On a positive note, I took my beloved chambray to the tailor, and she was able to repair a big tear in my sleeve for $5! It looked like new too, I couldn’t even tell which sleeve it was. I am super happy I rescued my shirt from the donate pile at the last minute.

Style Notes: I like the color combination here, and I like the shape this outfit creates, but I don’t love the outfit. I blame the pants. They feel like something I’d wear if I worked in an office. And I don’t, so wearing them always feels a bit ‘off’ for me.

Style Score: 6

FAVORITES: Monday / Friday / Sunday Night

KEY LESSONS: Keep it simple.

  1. Happy anniversary! My husband and I celebrate 16 years next Tuesday. Time really does fly.

I love both of Saturday’s outfits and could see myself in either. I wish I could find a pair of Levi’s that look good on me, but so far no luck! Have a great week, friend!

    1. Thank you Rebecca! We had a great weekend. It took me a long time to find mine! Vintage denim also looks weird at first try on because the fit is so different than other jeans. You have to sort of have envision how it’s going to look when you style them with your favorite items. And sometimes they need a slight alteration.

  2. Man, I think these are some of my favorite outfits of yours yet! That color palette is perfection.

I’m personally a fan of the socks-and-sneaks look you’ve got going on. It feels fun and irreverent :)

Happy anniversary to you and your hubby! xx

    1. Hi Erin, thank you for the kind words! I love how you described the socks as irreverent, I’m totally going to do it again because I love that perspective.

  3. I absolutely love Thursday’s and Saturday’s looks. The color palettes are super flattering and the cream really softens the look of the leather jacket. I’m glad to see motorcycle jackets seem to be more of a classic style these days and not a passing trend. Time to pull mine out for spring!

    1. Yes, I agree! I was worried a moto jacket was a passing thing, but I think it is definitely timeless. Makes me very thankful! I love pieces that I can pull out year after year and feel good about!

  4. I love both of the Saturday outfits. You just look effortlessly cool. So simple but SO good.

    1. Ah, thank you Dara. 😌 I FELT really good too. And once I was dressed, I hardly thought about my clothing, which is allowed me to plug into other things, like having fun!

  5. I love the palette! I really like the color of the pants. I have the bone and am planning on the black when it restocks but like that this echos the darker “skin tone” option of the Kamms. The Everlane pants hit me at the same place as the Kamms hit you! But I’m 5’3. I prefer the longer inseam, too.

Happy anniversary! We celebrate #11 in June. :)

  6. Hi Andrea! Love your outfits! Twice I’ve ordered and returned Everlane ‘s cropped wide pants, so I get it. Can you tell me how you find their shoes fit compared to your other shoe brands? I’m a 10 normally, and have the Boss boot (2 pairs!) and the day heels (3 pairs!) in size 11. The Boss boots have stretched a bit, and I don’t mind. But I’m looking forward to trying the new flat sling backs and wonder if a 10.5 would be better. Or maybe the new mules. I feel like neither of those styles can afford to be loose, so just wondering. Thanks!

    1. Hi Karen, Everlane’s shoes always seem to fit small and narrow on me. I usually go up a half size. Ordering the 10.5’s next time might be worth a shot!

  7. Love your outfits this week and congrats on your anniversary! I always feel best “going out” in vintage-y jeans and a slinky shirt with clog heels. It’s just fancy enough without feeling overdone. Especially since I can’t hang past like 9pm anymore :)

I had the same issue with the wide leg crops when I sized down. I ended up hating them but keeping the pair I have in my “true size”, which don’t have that weird pulling issue at the waist. Though they do feel a bit too big sometimes, they keep their drape better. These are the Utility ones in golden brown, and I prefer the non-metal button in the same color as the pants.

    1. Hi Mel, I love your idea of a going out outfit, it sounds perfect!! I hear ya on turning in early too 😴.

As for the WLCs, that’s really interesting about the sizing. I wonder if I would have liked these better in my true size. Thanks for sharing!

  8. It is currently snowing buckets where we are, and your Monday outfit has me so antsy to dig out my Reifhaus jumpsuit for spring! It’s seriously the best garment ever.

  9. I considered getting the Veda real leather but it seems everyone is wearing one this same style now. It becomes more of a fall back item and less of an creative style one. My husband commented on seeing a woman in her 70’s wearing one at the supermarket. He said ‘ it sounds cool, but it wasn’t – she looked ridiculous’.
