7 Days of Outfits: Cardigans and Jackets All Week

At the end of each season, I tend to feel a little bored with all my go-to combinations. Lately, those have been my pullover sweater + pant outfits, which have been on high repeat. This week I pushed myself to switch things up a bit, while still keeping warmth as the paramount factor. I tried a couple more winter-white palettes and brought one of my favorite pairs of shoes out of cold-weather-hiatus.

Here’s a look at what I’ve been wearing…

 MONDAY:

Claude Cardigan (S/M), L’envers | Linen Crop (Only Child x Seasons + Salt – same in oatmeal) | White, Modern BF Jeans (28, with altered waist), Everlane | High Top Cons, thrifted (LOVE this USA made option) | Necklace, c/o Natalie Borton

I dared to pair this cardigan with a breezy linen top, because of how crazy-warm it is. I am happy to report I was sufficiently comfortable. I’ve been very impressed with this sweater by the small European-based knit shop L’Envers Fashion. It’s timeless, functional and beautiful. I have worn it so many ways since purchasing it in the fall. It truly feels like a special piece in my closet.

Style Notes: I went for a white + black + tan palette, which I think would have showcased better if you could see my bag. I added the edgy necklace to match the vibe of my high top Converse. Overall, I was pleased with this outfit and enjoyed shaking a new winter combination out of my closet.

Style Score: 9

TUESDAY:

Chore Coat (M)  c/o Tradlands | Raglan Sweater, old, (very similar version) | Jeans, vintage Levi’s 505’s, Etsy | Clog Boots, No.6 (similar) | Tote, c/o Cuyana

Tuesday was another cold day that called for layers. This outfit isn’t exactly a new combination, but I do enjoy layering with this chore coat whenever I can. The black is beautiful and structured, but right now I am really crushing on the natural! I think it would be so gorgeous for the upcoming warm season. Something about the weeks leading up to spring always leaves me craving mid-weight jackets.

Style Notes: I had the choice to reach for a black bag to keep the look monochromatic or a cognac bag to add warmth. I do like the cognac here, but I think a slick black bag would have made this outfit extra chic. I was very happy to wear this outfit. I topped it with my cocoon coat when we went outdoors. I think I’ll repeat it again, but with a black bag instead!

WEDNESDAY:

Claude Cardigan (S/M), L’envers | Turtleneck, Splendid | Jeans, Vintage Levi’s (501) (very similar) | Clog Boots, No.6 (similar) | Bag, Thrifted Madewell (better option)

Style Notes: I had just come inside from shooting blog photos out in the cold and rain and was chilled to the bone. I put on everything I could think of to make me warm! A quick tuck of my top would make this look a little more intentional. For me, this combination is just okay. I liked the turtleneck/cardigan combo better when I wore it here.

Style Score: 7.5

THURSDAY:

Long Cardigan, c/o Grana (similar in lighter weight) | Linen Crop (Only Child x Seasons + Salt – same in oatmeal) | Skinny Jeans (28), c/o Everlane | Clog Boots, No.6 (similar) | Necklace, Brennan Young

A linen shirt twice in one week? I must be daring! Despite the cold, I’ve comfortably worn this shirt twice. All it took was a cozy cardigan. I have been really into the crop cut of this top. I love pairing high-waisted bottoms with semi-cropped tops. It makes legs look extra long!

Style Notes: I embraced a monochromatic palette today with the white necklace over a white top, and I like how it came together. I am not sure that I would repeat this outfit. I still don’t feel 100% myself in skinny jeans, but if I do wear them, I think I prefer to style them with a sweater/jacket that’s not so long. I might go for a chunky pullover or mid-length jacket next time.

Style Score: 8

FRIDAY:

Cybil Wrap, c/o Yala Designs (made in the USA) | U-Neck Tee (M) (favorite!), Everlane | Jeans, Rag & Bone, sold out | Clog Boots, No.6 (similar)

Very unexpectedly, I received this wrap sweater from Yala Designs in the mail. I didn’t pick it out, and had no idea it was coming, but I found myself eager to wear it. It’s very fleecy, like sweatshirt material, and it feels so warm on. The style isn’t one I’d normally reach for, but the color is exceptionally beautiful. I’ve been wearing it around the house almost every evening. I am starting to understand why people put so much value on having nice lounge wear. It beats some of the old sweatshirts or sweaters I usually wear.

Yala Designs is special to me because they are based in my hometown, Eugene, Oregon. Though a lot of their stuff isn’t my style, I am impressed with the work they are doing in sustainable manufacturing. Producing in the U.S. when they can, and also manufacturing in the country of fabric origin to keep their carbon footprint down. They place high value on sustainable materials and visit their factories multiple times per year. You might remember I shared about one of their nightgowns in my Treat Yourself Valentine’s Gift Guide.

Style Notes: This is my version of ‘out of the house’ loungewear. My stretchiest jeans (yep, back in rotation), a simple tee, a fleecy cardigan, and warm boots. I wanted to be extra cozy/comfy because I knew later in the night we would be heading out to a dress-up event.

Style Score: 9

SATURDAY:

Cardiff Work Jacket in Camel, OS Regular, c/o Only Child | Waffle Knit Sweater, c/o Everlane, sold out, (very similar) | White, Modern BF Jeans (28, with altered waist), Everlane | Clogs, No.6, sold out

Style Notes: I like wearing this jacket any chance I get, but I have to layer well underneath it to keep warm. This looser-fitting sweater probably isn’t the best choice, a fitted cream sweater would have worked better. I ended up adding socks to this look because it was chilly outside, and I spent some time walking to a neighborhood coffee shop.

Style Score: 9

SUNDAY:

Sweater Jacket (S), c/o Hackwith Design House | British Tee, c/o Zappos | Jeans, Vintage Levi’s (501) (very similar) | Mariella Mule, c/o Nisolo | Day Market Tote, c/o Everlane (currently sold out)

Style Notes: My only ’10’ outfit for the week. I love the light, warm shades, anchored nicely with solid, black bag. This is close to my version of an ideal outfit. I was so happy to pull these shoes out of hibernation. It’s generally too cold and wet to wear them during the winter months. But today it was dry, and I decided to brave the cold. It helped that I spent most of the day indoors. I love this combination, and I can’t believe I haven’t worn it sooner!

Style Score: 10

FAVORITES: Sunday

KEY LESSONS: I didn’t have a lot of outfits I truly loved this week. The cold weather has been dampening my interest in creating visually interesting outfits. Vowing to invest a little more time next week!

  1. I like skimming through these like a game. I can almost always tell what you’ll rank high now, but interestingly I tend to prefer the styles you rank lower. Different strokes for different folks.

    1. That’s hilarious Leah! You know me too well! It is interesting to see how our styles intersect, and also head in different directions.

  2. I actually love Thursday and Saturday! They look chic and super pulled together. I totally get seasonal clothing slumps, but for me it’s summer. Since it’s SO hot and humid for SO long, I end up in shorts and a tank for months. So boring, so un-chic. But I think you look great in these outfits!

    1. Thanks so much Mel! I agree, by the end of almost any season, I am feeling a little bored, or maybe unmotivated. Summer can by trying for sure! I have a really cute bandana I picked up a few months ago, and I might try tying that on my handbag to add more zest when I am dressed minimally in the heat. Thanks for the kind words!

  3. I finally caved and purchased the Everlane white denim after your last winter whites post and I’m so glad I did. I knew based on your feedback that the waist would need tailoring, but I didn’t mind. Can’t wait to see you rock yours in the spring!

    1. I hope you love them Alex! I wear mine quite a bit, as you can see! Surprisingly, I like them better than my black jeans. But the time of year might also have something to do with it…

  4. I’m completely in love with the Yala wrap! How is the sizing in that piece? (I may be looking into buying it… :))

    1. I have the small, and I think it runs pretty true to size. The arms were exactly the right length at first, but have relaxed and gotten a little longer with wear. I really like the Yala wrap too! I’m wearing it right now. :)
