It’s been chilly in the PNW this week! I am eating my words after previously gloating about our mild winter. Last week freezing temperatures returned and we had our second snowfall of the season. Brrrrr. In terms of what I wore, there were lots of layers going on, and six out of seven days I reached for my clog boots!
Overall, I was pretty happy with my looks, but there was one day where I definitely phoned it in, and it shows. I’ll be curious if you can figure out which day that was.
Here’s a quick look at what I’ve been wearing…
MONDAY:
Luke Fedora, via Animal Traffic | Alpaca Cardigan, Zady (no longer available) | Relaxed Linen Shirt, Everlane (sold out, similar in poplin) | Jeans, vintage Levi’s 505’s, Etsy | Boots, Loeffler Randall (no longer available similar option)
I mentioned last week that I made an emotional purchase, which happened to be this hat by Yellow108. I’ve been feeling a little down because of my hair situation lately, and decided to ‘fix’ the situation by buying a hat that can (hopefully) help me through the pains of growing out my bangs. (I also have bangs that are grown to mid-cheek, those, combined with my main bangs are giving me all kind of styling issues. Read: mullet. First world problems for sure, though.)
Thankfully we have a few shops around town that carry this brand of hats – which are made in the USA, often with recycled materials. The first one I popped into, Animal Traffic, had one that worked for me. I wore it a few times this week, thankful to cover my hair frustrations in style.
Style Notes: Overall, I love this look. I haven’t worn this shirt in ages, and felt compelled to reach for it. This outfit feels classically feminine in a nostalgic way. I will definitely wear this one again.
Style Score: 10
TUESDAY:
Cocoon Coat (6), Everlane | Turtleneck, Splendid | T Sweater, c/o Jamie + the Jones (similar style) | Skinny Jeans (28), c/o Everlane | Clog Boots, No.6 (similar) | Bag, c/o ABLE | Sunglasses, Ray-Ban
Style Notes: Looking at this photo, I like the way the outfit looks, but Monday’s outfit feels way more ‘me.’ This outfit feels more ‘blogger-girl.’ I think if I subtract the turtleneck and round sunglasses I would like it better.
Style Score: 8
WEDNESDAY:
Merino Turtleneck, thrifted (similar) | Dress, Everlane, a few years old | Tights, Anthropologie (sold out) | Clog Boots, No.6 (similar)
This outfit was warm and comfortable to wear, but I wasn’t in love with it. Honestly, I don’t think turtlenecks are great on me, but their warmth is hard to deny this time of year! Overall, I feel pretty neutral about this look. I suppose that makes it less than a win.
Style Notes: Trying to pair these contrasty tones proved to be a little tricky. The tights are a good middle ground to marry the light chambray and black together. Since I am not loving the turtleneck, perhaps a long sleeve black shirt (like the silk one I recently got from Everlane) would push this look more toward the ‘win’ category.
Style Score: 7
THURSDAY:
Donegal Sweater, Everlane (a few years old, similar option) | Jeans, Vintage Levi’s (501) (very similar) | Clog Boots, No.6 (similar) | Bag, Thrifted Madewell (better option) | Verge Necklace, c/o Favor Jewelry
If you can’t tell already, this is the day I didn’t hardly try. Call it a mid-week slump if you will. One of those days where I didn’t feel super inspired. You can’t win them all, I suppose. And some days are just meant for being cozy, comfortable, and not really caring.
Style Notes: I love all of these elements but I just don’t love them together.
Style Score: 6
FRIDAY:
Luke Fedora, via Animal Traffic | Alpaca Cardigan, Zady (no longer available) | Poplin Shirt in light blue, c/o Cosmos Studio | Light Wash Jeans (26), Levi’s 501 CT (similar) | Clog Boots, No.6 (similar) |
I’m so glad I pulled these jeans out of my stack again. I bought them almost three years ago, and I forgot how much I like them. I go back and forth on the big holes, but the cut of these jeans is so good. They are 100% cotton, 501 CT’s which means they’re a little cropped and a little tapered.
Since I finally shared this shirt with you guys on the blog, I felt free to incorporate it into my regular wardrobe. It’s a really cool top, and I am excited to wear it and wash it, and see what kind of personality it takes on.
Style Notes: I am really digging the all-cool color palette here. The hat makes me feel pulled together, and so do the boots. I think I’m starting to get addicted to the extra height. I’d very likely repeat this outfit.
Style Score: 10
SATURDAY:
Sweater Jacket (S), c/o Hackwith Design | Striped top, old thrifted (similar) | Jeans, vintage Levi’s 505’s, Etsy | Clog Boots, No.6 (similar) | Bag, Thrifted Madewell (better option)
I really liked wearing this outfit, except I had to take the sweater off when I left the house because it’s kind of hard to wear under a coat. That’s the problem I run into with any sort of dusters, they are usually too long to wear under coats, or too wide in the sleeves. How do you wear your dusters?
Style Notes: The cream sweater jacket softens up this dark-toned and shaped outfit very nicely. It makes it feel less harsh, and more spring-like.
Style Score: 9.5
SUNDAY:
Cropped Turtleneck Sweater, c/o Siizu | Skinny Jeans (28), c/o Everlane | Belt, old as the hills! | Clog Boots, No.6 (similar)
Sunday morning we woke up to falling snow, which led me to automatically reach for the warmest things I could find. Not pictured: walking sleeping bag.
Style Notes: This look would have felt more congruous to me with a black belt.
Style Score: 8

FAVORITES: Monday/Friday
KEY LESSONS: I hate to rely on clothing to boost my confidence, but sometimes it just does. I’m really glad I bought the hat, it was a key item this week.
I like your phone-it-in outfit a lot! (I think your “black belt” comment to Sunday’s outfit also applies there, though.) I also wanted to say (as someone who is also growing out bangs and on the hair struggle-bus), that your deep side part and those longer bangs are exactly what allow me to tuck my existing bangs behind my ears (it catches the shorter parts) and make them disappear.
I’m in a hair rut, too. I like photos of myself with longer hair, but I’ll be 40 this summer, and I’m a little itchy for a chop. But my hair is very thick (a good problem to have) and my face is long and I’m petite, and getting hair proportions right is so hard! Shorter seems like an easy choice, but it can get bigger (wider) or helmet-y really quickly when styled.
I have an appointment in a few weeks… perhaps I’ll have something figured out by then. I love the short angled crop in your photo at the bottom of the blog, and I’m loving Paige’s length, too. Maybe it’s time for a lob with some movement.
Hi Rebecca, I feel like hair on a longer face is a challenge! I have a long face too, and I’m always trying to find the right formula. You’re so lucky to have thick hair. I do love the angled chop as well, the only problem is it looks best when curled, and I’m just not committed to doing that everyday. Good luck with your appointment! I hope you walk with something good! :)
I love love love your Friday outfit! I haven’t commented before but just wanted to thank you for inspiring me to layer and combine clothes as I never have before. I’m getting so many new to me outfits out of my existing wardrobe, and that is so fun! Thanks for sharing your process.
Gah, I’m so honored Lucy!! Thank you for sharing!
I really love Tuesday’s look! I think it’s because you look cozy and warm and happy…but it could be the sunlight ;)
Thanks Erin! The sun light is definitely a contributing factor. Speaking of, how are you adjusting to your new climate? Do you miss the sun?
Can you tell me more about the Sizu sweater? What size are you wearing? I think it’s very cute on you.
Sure! It’s a size medium, and it’s made from Merino wool. It’s very nice quality, though it has gotten a bit pilly with wear. My sweater comb works really well to remove the fuzz though. It’s kind of wide and cropped, which makes it super cute to wear with high-waisted pants! It’s very warm!
Tuesday is an amaaaaazing look to me- is it because you turned into a dead ringer for Diane Keaton??
Ha, love this comparison, it’s a huge compliment! Thank you! ><
I’ve never liked how it looks to have a duster hang out from under a coat, so I tend to just carry it in my bag until I reach my destination. Not the best solution but I deal with it since I love them so much!
You’ve inspired me to wear hats more—I’m having weird things happen as my short layers grow out. You look so put together in your outfits this week, I never would have known your bangs were growing out if you hadn’t mentioned it! And your new hat is lovely. Sometime impulse purchases work out ok :)
Interesting solution! Thanks for sharing how you do it. This reminds me that I need to think outside the box sometimes! And yay for hats! Thanks for the kind words. Gosh, why does hair have to be such a struggle? In my ideal world, I’d wash it once per week and never have to style it. A girl can dream, right?
It’s been freezing over here too! I love all your outfits, but my faves were Monday, Wednesday, Friday & Saturday. Those boots are really stealing the show!
Ha, thanks Shelbi! I hadn’t even realized I’d worn them so much until I sat down to put together this post! They are just a great winter shoe! And of course, very, very comfortable. That’s a big reason why I wear them so much too. ;)
I love the leather mixing! Cognac is my all time favorite and I like it mixed with Black and Tan and gray! Also u have a gray cashmere cardigan that’s sold out.. is there anything similar?!
Hi Emily… hmm, Cuyana has a nice cashmere cardigan, though it’s lighter in weight than the Grana one. I’ll keep my eyes peeled for another option!
