June 30×30: Days 23-25

The heat really rolled in this weekend with back-to-back days of triple temps! Whew! It’s been hot. However, this is my first summer as an Oregonian with central air. That’s a first in 22 years. And on days with this kind of heat, I definitely don’t take it for granted. Our home is a triple story townhome (kind of like a row house) and we would’ve been sweltering without it. However, I have spent so many summers desperate to cool down, that it feels a little strange to be so comfortable when I know it’s blistering out.

All talk of A/C aside, we spent plenty of time out and about over the last few days, and I employed many of my summer favorites in an attempt to stay cool.

DAY TWENTY-THREE:

I loved putting this top to the test in the driving heat! We walked through part of downtown for lunch with my in-laws, and I was surprised at how having my shoulders covered actually made me feel cooler. Now I get the whole, long-sleeved linen in the heat thing. This shirt was super breezy and helped me keep cool, while also making my shorts feel a little less dressed down. If I were to repeat this look I’d swap bags for something a little more structured. The bucket bag makes this outfit feel a little more ‘beachy’ than is typically my style.

Effortless Factor: 10 – Adding the necklace really made this simple outfit feel pulled together with minimal effort. Every item here is comfortable, and nothing needed to be tugged/adjusted to stay in place.

DAY TWENTY-FOUR:

This dress is typically my go-to for hot days. It’s super lightweight and doesn’t hug my body. I’ve been really into these Madrid style Birkenstocks lately. I like how they are a slightly feminine option over my usual Arizonas. They are about as minimal as a shoe can get, and definitely keep my feet cool.

Effortless Factor: 10 – It’s official, summer time dressing is definitely the easiest and most effortless because there are no pesky layers to coordinate. Done and done.

DRESS: Everlane, a few seasons old and no longer available, but I really like this option | SANDALS: Birkenstock | BAG: Cuyana

DAY TWENTY-FIVE:

Never underestimate the power of the Lou Jumpsuit! I caved and decided I couldn’t live without both of my black jumpsuits for this 30×30. (Don’t worry, I swapped out something I had yet to wear.) This jumpsuit is magic in hot weather. The fabric drapes away from my skin, so it’s much cooler than wearing anything with a waistband. Plus, the linen-blend fabric is super breezy. And I also forgot how much I love wearing black. It’s a shade that flatters 99.9% of the time!

Effortless Factor: 10!! – Bonus: I always feel so good when I wear this jumpsuit sans any extra layers. It’s definitely my power suit. Long live the jumpsuit.

Have you been following along with Paige and Lee? I love how Paige is getting creative with her striped dress. It really makes me want one! And Lee is a whiz at all things style-related. Her linen blazer action is too good!

Hope your week is off to a great start. I’ll be back on Friday with my final installment of 30×30 outfits. I can hardly believe this month is coming to a close!

  1. Your denim shorts are killer! I’ve been on the hunt for a great pair (or a pair of jeans to cut) and haven’t had luck yet… Fingers crossed!

    1. Ah, thanks!! They are from sold old relaxed fit Levis I thrifted a handful of years back. I chopped them and bleached them myself!

  2. Your outfits are so inspiring! You look so put together despite the heat. I’m making a mental note to recreate some with my own closet.

I’ve been thinking about that Reifhaus jumpsuit for ages. Thinking about biting the bullet! Do you have recommendations about small vs xs sizing? Thanks in advance!

    1. I’ve been drooling over this jumpsuit since Andreas first debut of it on S&S. I was nervous about getting it, as I’m short and petite, and just wasn’t sure it would work on me without looking like kids clothes. But I finally bit the bullet a few weeks ago and ordered it and OH MY GOSH it is every bit as good as Andrea says. I’ve been wearing it 2 out of every 3 days and it is my favorite summer outfit, ever. For reference, I’m 5’1″, and usually an XS/S in clothing, and a size 2 in pants, with a bust on the larger side. I ordered the XS. I do have to double cuff the bottom in order to show ankle (unrolled it hits the top of my feet), and it’s cool and loose without being oversized. I have to do the tiniest wiggle to get it up and down my hips, but is really pretty effortless, & covers a bra completely.

      1. Thank you SO much Beth! That is really helpful. I’m also short and petite (5’3″ and 120ish but athletic build) and was concerned I’d look ridiculous/childish. I’m so glad it’s worked for you and really appreciate the sizing information!

    2. Ah, thanks so much Joy! It sounds like you got great advice from Beth, and I’ll add, that Lindsey told me she made the torso slightly longer this year, to account for different torso lengths, so if you get the smaller size to account for leg length, the torso should still fit. Good luck! I hope you love it!

  3. Hi Andrea! I was wondering if you could do a review or provide some comments on the Cuyana bag (not sure if you’ve already reviewed it). I’ve had my eye on it for a while and haven’t seen any reviews of it….thanks!!

    1. Hi Amy! I haven’t used it a lot, so I don’t feel ready to review it, but I really like it! I love how simple it is, and that there’s no name or brand stamped into the front of the leather. It’s nice and structured, I do find it feels a bit small on some days though. I’ll see if I can put together a more complete review later this summer. If you think of any specific questions, let me know! :)
