Closet Challenge |

June 30×30, Days 19-22

I have been in serious summer vacation mode lately. I’m not doing my hair. I’m not wearing makeup (save for brows and mascara). I barely brush my teeth. I kid, I kid.

Seriously though, it’s just so nice to take a step back from life, and go ‘ahhhhh’ a bit. Our schedule has opened up – which has been beautiful. The mornings are slower and the afternoons are more pleasant. But it’s not without its challenges. Sometimes I find that I amble through my day a bit when I have a little less to do. I fumble over decisions a little longer (should we go to the park, or the library?). Overall though, those are good problems to have right now.

This week the sun came out and I eagerly cast aside my pants in favor of skirts and warm-weather clothing. It was great to finally wear some different items from my 30 piece closet.

DAY NINETEEN:

One piece dressing is seriously the best! But it can be hard to style effectively, because a one-item outfit already feels so defined. I tend to feel a tad masculine in this jumpsuit, and I’m not sure if Birkenstocks were the best choice for a shoe. Next time I think I’ll try styling it with huaraches and a long necklace for a completely different look.

Effortless Factor: 8 – The waist on this jumpsuit is snug on my bum when I take it off, so it makes using the restroom a bit of a chore. At least I know my two rounds of BBG have paid off when it comes to my backside. No more flat-bum-mum!

JUMPSUIT: c/o Sotela | SANDALS: Birkenstock | BAG: Baggu | HAT: Cuyana

DAY TWENTY:

I really like this outfit, but I’m on the fence about this style of skirt on my body type. It always leaves me feeling so straight up and down, like it’s too blocky-shaped for me. Next summer I might replace it with black linen shorts, like these good-looking ones from Elizabeth Suzann.

Effortless Factor: 8 – Too much skin. My shirt creeped up way too much when knotted with this skirt, which isn’t as high waisted as some of my pants. After some time I switched from the knot to the front tuck which I liked much better.

SHIRT: Husband’s old tee from bootcamp (similar, size up for looser fit) | SKIRT: c/o Bridge & Burn, no longer available, try this | SANDALS: Birkenstock

DAY TWENTY-ONE:

This outfit is a definite winner! It’s super easy, and I feel great in it. The longer hemline it definitely more up my alley and kid friendly. (It’s even hard to hop in and out of cars in a shorter skirt!) This is another case of a knot to the rescue. I really wanted to buy a white, cropped top for summer, but decided on other things, and knotting my tank is a great way to improvise and create the same shape. Since the A-line skirt lends a more girlie silhoutte, I liked toning that down with the bulkier Birkenstocks. It gave me just the balance I was looking for in this outfit.

Effortless Factor: 10! – Easy, comfortable and a bit classy.

SHIRT: Everlane (M) | SKIRT: Steven Alan (similar) | SANDALS: Birkenstock | BACKPACK: c/o Everlane

DAY TWENTY-TWO:

This shirt is soft and crepey and it makes me feel happy every time I wear it! It was an eleventh hour addition for summer, and I’m so glad I bought this instead of going with a different plaid top I had in mind. If I had to grade this outfit, I’d give it a B++. I think it would be a little cuter with strappy black sandals, but I don’t currently have anything like that. I really like wearing these Pons because they stay on my feet so easily. However, they are a little tricky to photograph, and I feel like they actually look better in real life!

Effortless Factor: 10 – I didn’t ding this outfit for tucking because this shirt is really easy to tuck into this skirt. The thin fabric on the top, plus the stretchy waistband and loose fit of the skirt make it really simple.

SHIRT: Miranda Bennett Studio (sold out, LOVE this similar, cropped version in rose) | SKIRT: c/o Bridge & Burn, no longer available, try this | SANDALS: c/o Avarcas Canada | BACKPACK: c/o Everlane

Only eight more days to go in this style challenge. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t looking forward to digging into the rest of my closet again. But, I do find when I have the whole closet in front of me I get a bit overwhelmed. I’ve been playing around with the Cladwell App again, and I feel like it has been suggesting some good combos to me lately. When the 30×30 is over, I am going to try using it in earnest for a bit to see if helps me utilize more of my closet. I’ll be sharing a special discount code on The Weekly Rundown this weekend for a free 30 day trial, be sure not to miss it!

Lastly, have you been following along with Lee and Paige? I love the style tips Lee provides in each post, I feel like I should take notes! Paige has been killing it with her 24 item wardrobe, so many great looks, including an awesome full-tuck last week.

Cheers to a great weekend, friends!

  1. Aww, I love Day 21! You can tell that you feel at home in that outfit combination :)

    Almost there! You’ve got this!

  2. I don’t think the jumpsuit looks masculine at all — the hat was an excellent touch. I think you look so casual/cool/chic!

  3. Love the color palette of day 22, fall colors in June are my jam! That top looks great on your skin tone :) I saw someone else style the Sotela jumpsuit with some simple gold jewelry and it looked great, maybe try that out! Does it fit well everywhere else on you? I want to add it to my closet too but I definitely have a bigger bum xD

    1. Rachel, I’ve traditionally been a fall colors girl too, until the last few years, where I’ve favored more blue tones. It’s fun to dip back in! As per the jumpsuit, I wonder if you could email Sotela, Hanna might have some good measurements on the waist measurements of the jumpsuits!

  4. Love the jumpsuit :-) I have a skirt that looks almost identical to your short black linen skirt. Caslon from Nordis (not as sustainable but perfect for summer) comes in army, grey and black. It’s the Caslon Easy Linen Skirt in case anyone is interested. I do find it looks best for me with a half tucked thin top, to define the waist. I think you’ve been killing the challenge, love all your outfits.

    1. Thanks Tania! And thanks for the tip on the skirt. Do you find you prefer your skirt with a certain shape of top, like loose or fitted?

  5. Love Day 19 and 22. I think the jumpsuit looks fantastic on you – not masculine at all! If it were me, I’d have worn a long thin gold chain with it. But I pretty much do that with every outfit!

And Day 22 is so simple, yet stylish. I love that color on you, and the deep v is so flattering. I am finally reunited with my closet after a remodel (and way too many days in ratty painting clothes) and it feels sooooooo good. Wearing my Everlane wide-leg crops in bone with an Ilana Kohn denim crop top. It’s funny how we miss our clothes so much. Even my husband was dying to get back to his full closet and he usually doesn’t care about style at all.

    1. That sounds like a dream outfit!! I love the look of the wide leg crops in bone, but I didn’t like how I could see the pockets so much. I’m thrilled that you got your closet back, it must feel like Christmas, haha! It’s good for us to have these little breaks, right? Makes us appreciate what we have!

  6. I really liked this post! Lots of cool, casual & pulled together looks. I prefer the shorter version skirt on you. Just looks proportional. Question. How do you handle & care for your linen? And, Lyocell items? Mine are a wrinkled mess. I heard there is a linen spray that takes out wrinkles, but yet to find. Thanks!

    1. Hi Marti, great questions!! For linen, I always press after hand drying. But I do not press it inbetween wears. So I’ll wash and wear my items 2-3 times, and only press my linen the first go-round. I use lots of steam when pressing! How Lyocell/Tencel, I will cautiously iron or use my steamer. That fabric seems a little more delicate. But it also seems more resistant to wrinkles throughout the day.

  7. Just got the Elizabeth Suzanne Clyde Shorts in flax linen. They are heaven- a great weight.
