At the beginning of June my friends Paige, Lee and I kicked off a 30×30 Style Challenge. We chose 30 items out of our closets to style 30 outfits over the course of the month.
Thirty is kind of a weird number because it still feels like a lot on some days, and on other days it feels limiting. However, I am learning more than I expected. So far I’ve discovered I love knotting my shirts, color palettes are really important to me and that black is a great way to ‘toughen’ up a white outfit.
DAY SIXTEEN:
I’m surprised I’ve made it this far into the challenge without pairing these items together. It’s such a simple formula, and I love how it works. The shape of these pants goes really well with knotted tops, because it lends an instant hourglass silhouette. And the minimalist sandals mimic the overall body-con vibe.
SHIRT: old J.Crew, try this USA made option | PANTS: Elizabeth Suzann, currently sold out, but still available in linen | PONS: c/o Avarcas Canada | BAG: Baggu
Effortless Factor: 10 – Finally, a 10! I didn’t even have to retie this top once. I loved how I felt in this outfit, relaxed, pulled-together and very comfortable.
DAY SEVENTEEN:
Originally I planned to wear my Sarita wedges with this outfit, because I love the way they look with these pants, but in the interest of traveling light (we headed out of town for a quick family visit) I wore a shoe that would see me through a wider variety of scenarios. As I mentioned, we were visiting family, and it mortified me to grab a picture in public with everyone around. This is the first time I’ve ever done an outfit capture in one single click of the shutter. (Mercifully, I don’t think anyone was paying attention.)
Effortless Factor: 9 – Even though it’s basically the same ingredients, this outfit didn’t feel as effortless as the one the day before. I think it’s the rigid denim jacket. I like my items soft and easy to move in, which is probably why I tend to shy away from too many fitted jackets.
JACKET: Levi’s (similar) | SHIRT: c/o Only Child | PANTS: Elizabeth Suzann, currently sold out, but still available in linen | SHOES: c/o Nisolo | BAG: Baggu
DAY EIGHTEEN:
Oh, this day was so good, I didn’t even hardly bother thinking about my clothes. Sometimes I just need a day like that. I didn’t necessarily love the combo, but I was comfortable, and happy playing and celebrating Father’s Day with my family. If I were to re-do it, I would have worn my vintage army shirt knotted in the front. The gray-gray-black tones would work better that the tan-gray-black I had here. After shape, color/tone is probably the biggest factor in determining how I build an outfit.
Effortless Factor: 9 – My shirt wrinkled quite a bit from traveling, so I opted for a half tuck, which didn’t really work, and I ended the day in a full tuck, which looks good, but can be annoying.
SHIRT: c/o Tradlands | PANTS: Vintage Levi’s (have you guys heard of Re/Done?) | SWEATER: c/o Grana (sold out, try this option) | SANDALS: Birkenstocks
Glad you had a great Friday/ weekend/ fathers day!
Hope your week goes well too!
Xo!
Thanks Jodie! Enjoy the countdown to your sweet little one arriving!
I actually really like the color palette of Day 18 – well done!
Thanks Krystal!!
I always love the look of denim jackets, but rarely wear them for the exact reason you mentioned. I have tried quite a few and never found one I loved, so right now I’m living without one to see if I even miss it or if it’s just one of those things I felt I should have. And yay for a one shot #ootd pic. Nearly impossible ;)
xo
So interesting! I used to have one with stretch and it was suuuuper comfy, but definitely not as cute.
And yes, totally true, ha! Embarrassment can be highly motivating!!
I love the striped shirt from Tradlands. Is it sheer at all?
Hi Lacey, yes it’s definitely a bit sheer! But not enough that I feel the need to layer underneath. I’m usually good if I make sure to wear a nude bra.
Oo! That’s a great idea! I’m going camping in a few weeks and hoping to do a packing list after that. They just take me so darn long in photoshop!
