7 Days of Outfits: What I Really Wore

This weekend marks two years of writing and publishing here at Seasons + Salt. (Little known fact: the blog started out under a different name for about the first six months!) As I’ve come up on this mile marker, I’ve sensed a shift in how I want to share content with you guys. I feel a desire to be a little more real and authentic, and a little less ‘editorial.’ The scope of the blogging world – at least those folks who are making a living off of it – seems to have moved strongly toward editorial designs, layout and content. And while I do love that, what I love even more are blogs that are raw and authentic, filled with dreams, goals, encouragement, and honest talk.

Most of you come for the outfits. And those are my favorite posts to shoot and share for the blog. However, I want the above desires to be reflected in how and why I share outfits, so I am shaking things up.

Instead of shooting and styling outfits exclusively for the blog, I’ve decided to take a picture each day of what I’m wearing and then compile it for a new 7 Days of Outfits series. This is inspired in large part by the 7 Days of Styling series that I really enjoyed sharing with you guys. I’ve long wanted to share more outfits on the blog, (two per week isn’t very many!) and have always been challenged by the logistics. This new format is a great way to meet that goal, along with a few others.

This idea was also born out of a desire to be more transparent with what I am wearing on a day-to-day basis. I’ve found it easy to style looks ‘just for the blog’ only to not end up wearing them very much in my regular day-to-day life. And I just don’t feel right about that.

I’m going to try this format out for a few weeks, and see how we all like it. I’ll still have my Weekly Rundown and other content including giveaways and sponsored posts, but I’ll be sharing most of my looks through the 7 Days of Outfits series each week.

SUNDAY:

Are you guys tired of these pants yet? I’m not! They are truly one of my favorite things to wear. Elastic waistbands are hard to turn down! Wearing a tri-color combo is almost always my go-to way to style an outfit. I love the way the rust color of these clogs (Suzie Closed Toe in Sienna) warms up the black and olive combo.

MONDAY:

This is one of my favorite looks from the week. Probably because I feel so darn at home in these pants. Since I got these vintage Levi’s hemmed, I wear them at least 2-3 times per week. The ankle length (instead the chunky roll) gives a more streamlined look to the pant, which makes them feel more versatile.

TUESDAY:

I feel pretty rockin’ in this outfit, even though I almost always get long looks or a little side-eye when I wear these pants. I love the statement they make when I wear them and, but because of that, they can be a little tricky to style. They work best with smaller, fitted tops and jackets that aren’t to voluminous.

WEDNESDAY:

This dress is another one of my favorite items to wear. I hope some of you were able to snag one during the virtual pop-up. I can’t wait until the weather warms up enough to wear it as a dress. A note on the Cuyana bag, I recently switched from the Tall Tote (which I reviewed here) to the Classic Tote, and I like this style a lot better. It’s shorter and wider verses tall and narrow. Also, in the 1.5 years since I bought my first Cuyana tote, it looks like they have made a subtle change to the shade of their caramel leather. My first bag was more golden and the new bag is more reddish brown, almost more of a cognac color.

THURSDAY:

Oh hey, it’s just me chilling in a trench coat. The jury is still out on whether trench coats are for me. I love how classic and timeless they look. However, when wearing one, I sort of feel like a little kid playing dress up. As far as trenches go, I love the simplicity of this one and the fact that the belt ties instead of having a buckle. I’m also really digging dusters right now. This tan one and this olive one in particular. There is something about spring that always leaves me longing for light jackets.

FRIDAY:

These are definitely my go-to ‘feel good’ shoes right now (in addition to my clogs). They are so comfortable, and I love the look a nude shoe adds to an outfit. Bonus: the easy slip-on factor. My favorite kinds of shoes have always been the ones I can easily get on and off. I wear these almost any day it’s not raining.

SATURDAY:

Everlane Day Flat, Cuyana Saddle Bag

I really liked this outfit on, I just don’t think it photographed well. I am rocking my necktie from the Cuyana pop-up, totally inspired by Emily Henderson. The pop-up was quite fun, but the best part was snagging time with my blogger friend Ellie of Selflessly Styled. It was great to ‘talk shop’ and share blogging goals and ideas.

On the Day Flats: these are super cute shoes, and quite comfortable for a flat. I wish I would have sized up a half size. The length is good for me, but I think a little extra wiggle room would have helped my wide-ish feet. I like how understated they are, but they will probably only work with a few of my pants because they’re so low profile.

  3. Love this feature and the shift you’re making. I’m trying to do more real posts (vs. theoretical) myself, even if because it makes it easier to see what’s working and what’s not IRL. It’s more of a journal and less of a newsletter. I’d also love to see more 7 days of styling if you have particular pieces you really want to focus on.

    And I love the hemming on your jeans!

Although I can imagine it might feel like a lot of pressure to show all your outfits since you might want to repeat them or not wear something super interesting…so make sure it stays fun for you, too! :) At the same time, I selfishly can’t wait to see more outfits from you because you always combine pieces in beautiful ways. I’m also excited to see a review of the Nisolo mules sometime. I’m debating between them and Everlane’s modern babo and value your opinion. (Also debating the Clyde pants, but I’m super hippy and worried I’d look even more so in the Clydes!)

    1. Thanks Allegra, great feedback! I can see already how the thoughts of ‘keep it interesting, don’t repeat, etc.’ creep in, but I fight them off by trying to remind myself the point is to be real. So hopefully that will keep it fun!

      I LOVE the Nisolo mules. Today I was half-contemplating them in a second color. I like them a lot. I haven’t tried the babo from Everlane, but I personally think the shape of the Nisolo mules is more attractive. Perhaps one of these days I’ll get around to a review. The Clydes might surprise you by how much they make your hips look good. I feel like they promote a nice hourglass shape.

  10. Perhaps I missed this from a previous post but I would love to hear more about styling, fit, wear, etc of your everlane oxfords. I know they run quite small so I’ve sized up. But now I’m still struggling with the long pointy toe feeling too long. I’m curious about how they fair in the nearly constant Oregon rain too. I live in Oregon as well and the rain definitely has to be a consideration when purchasing shoes. How do they compare to your Nisolo oxfords? What are your thoughts?

    1. Hi Ellie, you have not missed a previous post. I chose these oxfords because I thought they would work well on rainy days – and they do. The leather is more waxy than the kind Nisolo uses, so it kind of beads off. Plus they have a synthetic instead of a leather sole. Leather soles in the rain can be tough, even with an added toppy sole. I feel like these blush oxfords are super easy to style because they go with just about everything. I love the color of them. It took me a bit to break them in, as they were pretty narrow on my wide-ish feet. How much did you size up? How do they feel on?

      Back on the Nisolos, I have a pair of their older oxford style, but they came out with a newer style that looks pretty cute too. My Nisolos are more comfortable than my Everlane ones, but I feel like the shoe isn’t as ‘hearty’ to stand up to Oregon weather as the Everlane ones are.

  15. I have been eyeing those Nisolo mules for months! I’ve never bought shoes from there and also have “wide-ish” feet. Usually not wide enough to really need to size up, but definitely not narrow feet. How is the sizing on yours? I usually wear a size 6.5-7 shoe.

    1. I got a pair in the upper end of my size rang (9.5-10), so a 10, and I am really happy with how they fit! Also, they are quite comfortable! I really like these mules a lot. In fact, I was just contemplating a second pair today in the navy color.

  19. I’m expecting my day flats to arrive tomorrow! So excited – I couldn’t resist the red because I already own a few pairs of black flats.

    In a similar vein to yours, I decided last week to try to photograph at least one outfit a week that’s just for fun, not part of a collaboration, though I never style outfits just to be photographed – I tend to wear them all day. I’ve been using Instagram stories to showcase everyday outfits, too. I agree that it feels right to try to balance “professional” content with real life. For the most part, we’re one woman shows anyway. It’s impossible to run everything like a business all the time.

    1. I agree! I also feel like they are unattainable, and that can feel depressing sometimes. Or it just seems silly. Though I do think a handful of bloggers do it beautifully and do it well. Thank you for your support and for being here!! :)

  21. Like the new format! I have a similar issue with trenches (and incidentally also got the Everlane trench). I don’t necessarily feel like a kid playing dress up, but in the past have felt too fashion-y or formal, despite really liking them on other people. I like that the everlane trench is a little flowy, a little structured, so it is more casual. You rock it in that outfit!

    1. I agree about the too fashion-y or formal! I think if I was in a more formal environment, it would feel more natural, like Chicago or NY. BUT, I do love them on other people, so I’m going to keep rocking it. You make a great point about the Everlane trench, it’s slightly less serious than other trenches.     1. Thank you Lizzie for weighing in! I’ll do my best to keep these as real life as possible. One person commented that I should shoot pics washing dishes. That is about as real life as it gets! Ha! Maybe I’ll try that out.
      The light fixture is fun, it came with our house, but I sure wish it was centered over the dining room table. One day I’ll move it!

  24. I am a more recent reader (6 months or so?), and I love your blog. Thank your creating and sharing these posts…I am often inspired. I appreciate that your are incorporating more outfits into the blog. They are some of my favorite posts too. However, I wonder if you might break up these marathon 7 day posts into smaller, more digestible posts (2 outfits at a time, or even keep a daily outfit post in there?). I struggle with long posts in my reader (from any blog, not specifically yours), and often don’t get through them or get lost halfway through. The smaller snippets, shorter posts, keep me connected, consuming awesome content, great inspiration, on a daily or every other daily basis. Looking forward to your upcoming content either way, just a thought, from a loyal (though quiet) reader.

  30. Omg I love it alllll. I love the first look bc I love me a moto jacket. Also Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. So basically, all of it, lol. I like the trench coat look especially with the peek of the stripes that are almost as long as the coat. I like the staged photos when a piece is being reviewed. I still vote for more pictures of you with your arms up, washing dishes, etc, to see how long a shirt really is or if the pants will get wet when I wash dishes, etc ;) But I also love the candid shots, and your lovely home in the background (and dog on the bed in the mirror?)

    1. I wore my Everlane cropped pants on Easter and am wearing one of my neck V-neck tees right now and they are all PERFECT. This is the most amazing tshirt and it was $15?! And transparent manufacturing?! Whaaaaaaat. I’m converted now, lol. I’m pretty much ready to empty my closet and fill it with Everlane.

Though, I wear an apron 90% of the time I’m in the kitchen because often my tops ARE so blousy and baggy. So, that was my pile of junk on the bed LOL.
