My Morning Uniform

Seasons + Salt Everlane Cropped Cashmere-4

Now that I’ve talked about the importance of publishing with purpose I’m a little nervous to pen today’s post! I want to be sure I’m following my own advice. ;) I suppose a gut check is a good thing.

Our mornings are generally pretty nuts. My oldest starts school at 8am, which means we need to head out the door by 7:30am to get everyone buckled and on the road to beat the traffic. This means I have about .05 seconds to pick out what I am wearing for the day.

In the cool, early hours this has emerged as my morning uniform…

Seasons + Salt Everlane Cropped Cashmere Seasons + Salt Everlane Cropped Cashmere-3 Seasons + Salt Everlane Cropped Cashmere-2[ Cashmere sweater, Everlane (M) / u-neck t-shirt, Everlane (M) / denim, older Paige (similar) / sandals, Birkenstock / sunnies, Ray-Ban / necklace, Loop Jewelry / bag, Baggu ]

These four key pieces – sweater, jeans, shoes and bag – make my life so much easier in the morning, and I need all the help I can get.

I know I’ve sung the praises of this sweater a dozen times over, but I’ll say it again, it has been a great buy. I have never owned cashmere before now, and wow, I didn’t know what I was missing! It’s soft and warm and the donegal flecks make me happy. Over the weekend I *swore* I saw it back in stock in medium, but I just checked again and it looks like there are only larges. However the heather gray is gorgeous, and the oatmeal is perfect for spring and summer. (I fall into the camp that believes you can wear cashmere year-round.) I love Everlane’s cashmere so much I am saving my pennies for a cardigan this fall.

Anyway, when I am chilly and tired in the morning, and all I want to do is crawl back into bed put on something warm and cozy to drive my kiddo to school in – and this sweater fits the bill.

Next up: worn-in jeans. These are the kind that are perfectly shaped to my body – something only years of wear can do. There is no bunching or pulling, everything stays where it’s supposed to. You can tell this pair is well-loved. Paige denim never lets me down! Hoping I can continue to get good life out of these dark wash skinnies for another year or two. Slip on shoes complete the look – I throw my bag over my shoulder, leaving two hands free, one to grab my coffee and the other to grab my toddler. I nudge the other ones out the door and off we go!

Now that summer is around the corner – only 12 days of school left, but who’s counting?! – I am dreaming of slow mornings with coffee on the porch, and sleeping past 7. I look forward to two months of mostly unscheduled and unhurried days and lots of activities in the warm sun.

Cheers,
Andrea

  1. Gotta love a uniform- especially early in the morning. I also love that even though its nearly summer (its nearly summer down in Texas- its almost summer up there?) you’re wearing layers and a sweater. Its so handy though that when the sun comes up and everything is suddenly warm, you have that top underneath so you don’t actually have to change as the day progresses! Just change to a pair of boots and this outfit works for winter (plus coat) and fall. And I would guess spring, that far north! Anyway, I love this post and I’d love to see more uniforms! Also- your hair is perfectly “I’m pretending I just rolled out of bed” tousled!

    1. Ha! Love your commentary Kate! Yes, it’s been in the 50’s and 60’s lately in the mornings here. We’re back in a bit of a cool streak. I can’t wait for warmer weather! How warm has it been down there?

As for the hair, I only wash and curl every third day, and the other days I literally do roll out of bed and brush and go! I find if I curl my hair right after I dry it the curl sets in better and lasts for a few days! Though by the last day it’s more wavy than curly. ;)

  2. I LOVE the everlane cashmere cardigan – I have the charcoal gray and wear it all.the.time. I actually managed to find a brand new one on ebay that was way discounted, but I want to get it in another color. I’m petite which usually means I get lost in long layers, but the cashmere is sleek enough that it remains flattering.

  3. I love how the white tee peeks out from underneath the sweater. And I see what you’re doing, trying to tell people that the other colours are just as good, while knowing all and well that this speckled one is the prettiest for sure :)) !
I like the necklace too, it’s funny how without this one accessory the outfit would look very casual.
Just put a bit of gold on it and you’re set :)

    1. Ha! You can see right through me love! Well, I do love the oatmeal, and I notice the speckled one keeps coming in and out of stock in smaller sizes. It’s like a watch and see!

  4. I’ve wanted to buy the vneck version of this sweater for months but its been sold out in my size! Gah! Hoping they restock for Fall since at this point in the year buying it would be less fun :) Though if it comes back in stock over the summer I may snag it anyway knowing I’d wear the heck out of it in Fall and winter (I like the idea of wearing it in the summer, but it’s just too dang hot and muggy in VA for it).

Also, I must tell you that seeing you in birks so often is part of what inspired me to finally get some! I’ve wanted to get some since high school, but either did not have the money for it, or worried they would make me less fashionable ;)

    1. Did you get some? I pretty much live in Birks in the summer, they are so comfy! I hope they never go back ‘out’ of style!

As for Everlane, keep an eye out, sometimes the stuff comes back in stock when they get returns…
