[TIP #4] How to Spice Up Your Wardrobe When You’re on a Shopping Break

Seasons-and-salt-outfit-photo-2Today brings us to what is likely the most surprising tip in this little five-part series. When the going gets tough in your closet, aka, you’re a little bored with your current offerings, reach out to your friends!

[Tip #4: Borrow from your husband/partner/friend.] It may seem like an obvious move, but it’s one I tend to forget about. If I had a sister, I’d probably be all over her closet. Lucky for me, my husband has pretty good taste (he also gets a little help from his opinionated wife!). He has a handful of really nice shirts I’d consider wearing, including this oxford.

Styling an item of clothing that isn’t in your normal size can be a little tricky, so pay close attention to what you pair with it; be intentional about your proportions. Originally I thought I’d pair this top with a mini skirt, but then I realized the combo just didn’t fit my personal style. Instead, I paired it with my favorite black skirt. The flow-y skirt + loose top is a combo I’ve grown to love. This works even though the outfit is loose and only slighly fitted because the length of the skirt still shows enough leg. If the skirt were longer it would run the risk of looking a bit frumpy. I considered pairing  my Birkenstocks or huaraches with this look, but both felt a little too preppy for my taste when paired with the oxford. Chunky 90’s sandals however hit the sweet spot. (I think they’re finally growing on me!)

This shirt would also look really cute half buttoned over cutoff shorts, or even knotted with a midi-length skirt. Now I kind of wish I had my own oxford shirt!

In case you missed any part of this series, you can catch up here: tip #1, tip #2, tip #3. I’ll be back with the final installment tomorrow!

  2. LOVE oxfords. Shirts and shoes, preferably together.

Good shoe choice, by the way!
