I am only about one month (or less!) into my summer capsule wardrobe and I am definitely not bored yet. But today we’re tackling contentment and I am sharing my second tip on how to spice up your wardrobe when you’re on a shopping break. If you missed TIP #1, all about using unconventional combos, you can find it here.
Admittedly, we’d probably all like to add a couple or twenty items to our wardrobes, but sometimes that isn’t in the cards. We might need to spend money on other things. We might be setting personal goals about consumerism. Or, we might be starting to realize that after buying what we want, the excitement fades and shortly thereafter we’re thinking about the next thing we want to buy – never truly being satisfied. This is one of the big reasons why I wanted to kick my shopping habit. I always wanted more and I was never satisfied with the next thing. (As my husband so lovingly pointed out to me. ;) ) It’s a rather unpleasant and unsatisfying place to be – always wanting more. There is something very peaceful and even beautiful about learning to love where you are.
[TIP #2] DIY-it. When you’re feeling bored or looking for a change with your current items, take things into your own hands, literally! I got bored with an olive green jacket I thrifted, so after a few months of owning it, I chopped the sleeves off and made it into a vest. I’ve cut countless pairs of old jeans into shorts, and most recently I sliced up the knees of these old black jeans of mine.
The change was just what I needed to scratch the itch of desire for distressed black jeans. I even cut the hems by about two inches to adjust them to my desired length. No money spent + lots of versatility added makes for a happy girl. I used tips from this tutorial. The bit about the tweezers really helps!

Are you taking a break from shopping? I’d love to hear your story!
Cheers,

I love your style! Simple and relaxed yet put together. Thanks for the ideas!
Thanks Katie! Glad to have you here. :)
I’m looking for some plain tees for running around with the baby on the weekends. Are Everlane tees transparent? If I have to layer with a tank, it’s not going to work out in this Texas heat!
I hear ya on that, layers in the summer = no bueno. In answer to your question, I do not find the Everlane tees to be transparent. I have a white cotton tee, and a white rayon tank, both of which work great with a nude -colored bra. However, I wear my tops loose, and that may play a factor. I am pretty sure if you order them you won’t be disappointed. They have great customer service too.
Awesome! Thanks so much and hope you enjoyed your 4th.
