Summer Style: Everlane and the Sleeveless Dress

I recently started following Everlane on Snapchat again (they had some weird stuff I wasn’t interested in for awhile). And, yesterday they had a great snap featuring what is coming for fall. They previewed new fabrics – they are replacing the Ryan-line with tencel fabric, I believe they’re adding some elasticity to their merino line, for “recovery.” They shared their new oxford (shoe) line AND gave a peek at their new chunky heeled boots (hello beautiful!). It was fun to see what’s coming down the pipe for them, and to think about what has worked and what has not worked for the company. It seems a lot of their items sell out on their debut. I don’t know if that’s because they produce a smaller inventory or they’re just wildly popular.

I ordered this sleeveless dress wayyyyy back in the cold months of spring. I am not sure why I ordered it so early, I just knew I really wanted it, and I had the referral credits, so I went for it. And surprisingly, it sold out, and was not restocked. It is from last season, so maybe that is why. The fabric is super soft and light, so it works really well on those really hot days. I have noticed Everlane’s sizing can be a little inconsistent sometimes. In most of their items I wear a medium or 6. Their 6’s run true-to-size and their mediums are pretty conservatively cut, usually. When I received this dress in a medium, I swam through it! The arm holes were so large I knew it’d never work, so I swapped it for a small, which fits just right. In the fall I ordered their Chunky Wool Cardigan and promptly returned it because the medium was dramatically oversized for me.

The Sleeveless dress is still available in gray and black, but Everlane has released what looks like an updated version of it for this summer, and I think the proportions are a little bit better. While I love the fabric of this dress, I think it would look better if it was slightly more A-line, which is what they’ve done with their Poplin Sleeveless Shirt Dress, their Poplin Pleated Dress and their Premium Cotton A-line Tee Dress (which is, sold out).

Everlane is one of my favorite places to get clothing, obviously their ethics and transparency are pretty great, but it’s their style that closes the deal for me every time. Hopefully, as they grow as a business and design new apparel, their sizing will be a little more consistent. Shopping online is a lot more difficult when you don’t know what size to order!

  1. This looks so cute on you! I can still see this color as “chose what you pay”.

It’s sitting for me to try on at home right now. I’m only 5’0″ so I’m worried the XS may be gigantic, but we’ll see…

    1. Thanks girl! I need to work on doing more than just curling it all the time, aka mastering some ‘dos. Not my forte. In other news, I think I’m going to give it all the hack later this week!

        1. Yes!! That is some boss lady hair. I don’t have the facial structure for that, but if I did, you’d bet I’d be all over it. My girl Jaana has similar hair!

  2. I love this dress on you…..so perfect for summer! I have found Everlane’s sizing inconsistent, as well. I know I told you about the linen top, but I also ordered several t-shirts, scoop, v, crew, etc, all in the same size and some were too small and others way too big! I wish they at least had free returns because of this because it gives me pause before ordering something now. :-(

    1. I know! It’s a bummer! I wish they would have re-stocked it! The gray looks cute too. I wonder if the fabric is as soft??
