I’m freshly back from an invigorating camping trip. Dirt and snow, can be very ‘exfoliating’ to my personality. Two things that take me out of my comfort zone. Yep, I said snow. In June. In Oregon we sometimes refer to June as ‘Junuary’ because of the unseasonable dip in temperatures.
We took our family of five camping in the Cascades with my parents, and the temps dipped a little lower than we all expected! Thank goodness my parents have an RV with heat. The first night, pre-snow, we slept in our tent (and froze), and the second night we wised-up and joined our kids and my parents indoors. All in all, it was a fun adventure for everyone, including the kids. The highlight for me was when my mom and I stole away for a hike along part of the (we think) Pacific Crest Trail per the tip of some other campers. We would have liked to have gone farther but neglected to bring important supplies like compasses and cougar-fighting knowledge. I think this may have sparked a future hiking interest in me, but I promise to not go all Cheryl Strayed on you.
Camping outfit details, as un-stylish as you can get: Columbia jacket liner (non-fleece, thank you), velour Juicy Couture pants, circa 2002, wool socks from Costco, worn with my Keen sandals. You’re welcome.
What does this outfit have to do with camping? Well, I wore/packed all of it for my trip (save the shoes). When you’re a city girl, packing for camping is tricky because you don’t have a lot of ‘outdoorsy’ clothes. But I did (overpack) a bag full of Levi’s and sweatshirts and sweaters. Levi’s have been one of my go-to brands lately when I need new denim because I like where they are headed with their company ethics. They were the first retailer to prohibit cotton sourced from Uzbekistan (a country that often uses child labor) in their supply chain. They were also recently given an honorable mention by Project JUST when they revealed their top denim brands. And honestly, I just love that Levi’s = classic quality. Not all their products, but if you pick the right ones, they are timeless and will last a very long time.
Full outfit deets: striped top (M), Everlane | distressed cutoffs (26), Levi’s (note, they were fresh out of the wash here, and stretch out nicely)| huarache sandals, Nisolo | drawstring purse, Baggu
Cheers for now,
Andrea
I love this outfit! I wore a very similar outfit last week on a cool day. I own the heavyweight striped top from Everlane but wish I would have bought the Boxy Tee instead…..the heavyweight will really only be appropriate when it’s winter and even then maybe not since I get hot easily. How fun to camp with your family! You camping outfit is awesome….I can’t believe you still have Juicy pants! :-)
I love this outfit! Thank you for sharing! :) We life in Seattle and the weather has been crazy around here! 90’s to low 50’s oy!
Yes, this has been the weirdest spring I can remember!! And it’s hard to acclimate and be comfortable when the temperatures swing so dramatically!
So funny right!! Juicy was so big back in the day!! I remember wanting a those sweatshirts with the dangly J so bad!
As for the Boxy Tee, I am not sure if you mean the striped or the regular one, but neither are my favorites! I think they are both kind of hard to wear.
Another Seattle follower here–this is such a nice outfit for these bizarre in-between-seasons weeks we’re having in the PNW!
And I love what you said about Levi’s! I just bought 3 pairs after finally making up my mind about what jeans styles I really wanted. I got two pairs of 501s and another pair of straight jeans with some stretch, and the 501s are clearly much, much higher quality for exactly the same price–the 501s truly are the best women’s boyfriend fit I’ve ever tried, and I’ve searched for years! But I was feeling like I had sold out my ethics a bit for a lower pricetag rather than purchasing American-made denim like 7FAM or CoH–I’m so glad to hear they’re taking steps in the right direction, makes me feel a little better about my recent purchases! Thanks for posting, as always :)
I have been a diehard CoH fan for years, that was my go-to jean, but yeah, it’s hard to shell out that much for a pair of jeans anymore. I remember when they used to be about $100 cheaper. I was checking some out at Nordstrom awhile back, and so many of them seemed ‘overdone’ if that makes sense. Like they didn’t look simple, but they look overly dyed/faded/distressed, etc. I guess what I’m trying to say is they didn’t seem as effortless looking as I would have liked. I would like a good skinny jean in the fall and I’m feeling a little unsure of where to turn. I love the idea of Nudie jeans, but don’t know if I could ever buy jeans without trying them on first, you know?
