Grayish // Your Feedback

Seasons + Salt Everlane Relaxed Linen

You may have noticed I’ve been doing something differently around here lately. I’ve been shooting my photos outside!

I was feeling a little bored with seeing my white background day after day, so I’ve been sweet-talking my husband into doing ‘photo duty’ for me. There’s definitely a learning curve to shooting outside, especially for him, who isn’t behind the lens nearly as much as I am. But so far it’s been fun. I love shooting outside because it’s fun to see clothes in a non-studio setting, and the variety in backdrops has been a welcome change  for me. I do feel a little strange when people walk by and I’m striking my ‘blogger’ poses though, ha!

On the note of blog changes, I’d love to take a little informal survey on some of your thoughts.

When I’m sharing blog posts, like this one, do you come for the outfits or the write up? Would you rather see less text on outfit posts and mostly pictures, with me saving my content for write ups on topics like ethical fashion, post-capsule closets, or reviews? Or do you like that I take the time to share something in each outfit post? I am asking because some days I have outfits to share, but not a lot to say about them. I would be curious to hear if you’d prefer ‘meatier’ posts on some days and ‘lighter’ posts on outfit days? Or do you like how it currently is?

Tell me what you think! It would mean a lot if you weighed in with your honest feedback. I have tough skin, I promise, no hurt feelings. :)

  1. I’ll be honest, I was quite giddy this morning when I saw your new post email in my inbox. I enjoy reading your posts and outfits. Your idea of having varied posts, sounds incredibly onteresting. It’s very much real life.. Some days I have more to say and want to read more articles, and some days I’m content to scan my Pinterest photos and blogs of outfits.

    Thank you for sharing!

  2. I like the amount of writing you have been doing; some longer, some shorter. I like to read about things regarding ethical fashion and reviews, but I also love if you post little things about your family. It makes me feel as if I actually “know” you personally. I don’t like bloggers who never post about anything personal; their blogs seem very cold and sterile to me when I read them. I get you may not have a lot to say every post, but keep posting on the days you DO have something to say! :-) I love the linen top you are wearing! Unfortunately, button up tops and my boobs never work out so well, so I always have shirt envy when I see them on other people! I did just receive a nice linen u-neck tee from Everlane to replace my J Crew tee that had a hole. I love it!

  3. I wouldn’t mind seeing more posts with just simple links to where the items are from. I love to see how you style certain pieces and the more ideas the merrier!

    1. Thank you Monica! I certainly feel like doing this on some days. I appreciate what you all have said about being authentic, and sometimes that just means I don’t have much to say. :)

  4. I love reading your thoughtful content along with outfit posts! Whatever is most organic for you is probably what hits home the best.

  5. I enjoy seeing one or two “meatier” posts a week along with more light-content outfit posts. It’s great to see how you style different pieces, so I mostly look at the photos in outfit posts. But as Lo encouraged you above, do whatever feels most organic for you :)

  6. I love your writing and when you do in-depth articles on ethical clothing, capsules, and the like. Your reviews are also very helpful for me. But I like a mix (and don’t necessarily think length = depth). If you wanted to do less text on outfit posts, I say go for it!

    1. Great points Jenna, esp about length not equaling depth. It’s easy to fall into the trap of equating the two! Thanks for weighing in!

  7. I love that you provide some extra thoughts with your outfits. I find that I’m more engaged with those posts. I also love the longer, thoughtful posts, and with the right balance, I enjoy a lighter, less-wordy outfit post as well. Let’s put it this way: I’ll read every post no matter what :)

  8. Love this photo change up! Still so simple, but very fresh and real. I’m digging it. I prefer no more than 5 photos- something like 2 or 3 full body and a few detail shots. Any more and its overkill. I never had much luck getting more than 5 anyway, so it seemed a good number. Plus, you can always save extra good shots for instagram, then all your images are fresh for your audience. I do enjoy the write up! Especially reflections, I love hearing peoples’ process.
    As always, thanks for sharing!!

    Kate

  9. I like the longer posts along with the outfits, however if you just want to post outfits with minimal text sometimes that works too. Just don’t abandon the write-ups because I like to hear about the thinking behind outfits.

  10. i like it when you describe why you chose a certain piece of clothing, or how it resonates with your closet journey thus far. i’d prefer it if the pictures were kept to a minimum, like kate suggested above; maybe all in all no more than 5. i love the weekly rundown posts and enjoy reading your thoughts, it certainly opens up great discussions!

  11. I don’t come for the outfit photos because we have different style, but I know a lot of others really do. I definitely could see the benefits of airy subjects, heavy on photos and the meatier topics that are light on photos. Either way, I’ll still check into to each post to see if there’s something beneficial for me!

  12. I am totally a reader. As long as there is text and not a vlog. I work in a college band department and have music streaming on my computer, but can’t listen to words. But I can read!! so please continue as you have been!

    1. Thanks Sus! I get that about vlogs! I am interested in them, but never seem to have the right time to be able to sit down and watch. Thanks for reading! :)

  13. I like that sometimes you write more, sometimes less. I guess readers probably have moods just like you with writing. I usually appreciate some good links, too, e.g. other bloggers’ posts, news items, products. Those may take more energy though, I don’t know!

  14. I like your outfit photos, I like your thoughtful writing about topics, and it’s okay if those are two separate things. Sometimes you just want to show what you’ve worn without a lot of commentary.

  15. I admit to skimming and just checking pictures/outfit details. For me it depends on my day. I read blogs while I have my coffee but sometimes don’t have a lot of time to read everything before my day starts. I do like a write up if something about the outfit was interesting or significant, like if it was a sweater you want to rave about, or a special date night outfit or something. But it can be hard to find anything to say when it’s just a post to capture a weekly wardrobe.

  16. I’m pretty much on the same boat as everyone. I like both meaty and light content. Since we have different style, I usually check to see if there is something I can benefit from – and I always appreciate a different way of thinking. I think the more important question is whether your meaty posts provide quality content – which it does. I get turned off when bloggers start posting things for the sake of posting.

    Sincerely, Tania

  17. Great point Tania!! Yes, I want to make sure I am never just posting for the sake of posting. Well said. Thanks for weighing in!

  18. I know I’m slow to the response, but I really like everything you have to say. At this point, I don’t perceive any of your content to be filler and I appreciate that. I love when you insert things about being a mom . I also appreciate the amount of vulnerability and realness to your writing. Keep doing what you are doing!

    1. THANK YOU! I really appreciate you weighing in, and saying that. Thank you for the encouragement, I’m so glad you’re here! :)

  19. I just have to say that I love what you do here, all of it. That said, I think however it comes out best for you organically is perfect. I don’t mind that sometimes the focus of a post is the photos, but I do love the wordy posts too. There’s so much value in what you have to say. But don’t force that just to post something. worthwhile. I say just keep doing what you’re doing.

  20. Thank you for asking for feedback. I am a relatively new reader who came because I am fascinated by the practice of wearing a capsule wardrobe (although doubtful it would work for me). I have a strong interest in ethical fashion too. I am attracted to blogs with captivating visual content but with clothes as a main subject, I need good writing to keep my interest long term. My style is fairly different from yours but I have grown to appreciate your unique combination of well-done photos and personal commentary. If I had to choose, I would lean on the writing, but I like the mix you have now. That said I would not mind some posts with just the outfit.
