Hey all! After a week of living in a foot of snow and ice, it’s finally starting to melt! I usually don’t start pining away for spring until at least February, but this winter has been a doozy. As my mom said, it’s the one we will be telling our kids about because we’ll be able to say we were there for “The Winter of 2017.”
But enough about that. I’m sure you didn’t come here to listen to me complain about the weather, you came for more Winter 10×10 madness!
In case you’re just popping in, I’ve joined a laundry list of amazing blogger ladies (and lots of you on Insta) in a minimalist closet challenge. We’re taking ten items (excluding accessories and coats) and making ten unique outfits. You can follow along/join in via Instagram using the hashtag: #winter10x10.
LOOK 7:
[ shift dress | sweater | tights | clogs, c/o | necklace, c/o ]
STYLING NOTES:
>> This is a fun one! I really love the dimension that tights can add to an outfit. I may or may not have a drawer dedicated mostly to tights. My love affair with tights began several years ago when my husband and I took a fall trip to Italy and the Netherlands, back when we were young whippersnappers with no children. I noticed the women in both places didn’t let the cool, autumn weather stop them from donning their skirts and dresses. They merely employed tights and boots to keep their legs warm. As I’ve said before, I’m convinced that wool tights can be warmer than wearing pants. This particular pair isn’t wool, but it’s cozy!
>> I first tried my dress on over the sweater with the ‘v’ in the front, but the double-v didn’t look too great. This dress works nicely with the ‘v’ in front when styled with a turtleneck, or with a crewneck.
>> The clogs. I really love these, and I am planning a big write-up on them in the next few weeks. I’ll explore the fit, the versatility and more. But during these snowy days, I’ve been wearing them around the house then changing to boots if we go anywhere.
LOOK 8:
[ pants | sweater, s/o (love the crewneck in oatmeal!) | tights (similar in wool, on super sale!) | clogs, c/o | bag | necklace ]
STYLING NOTES:
>> I’m rocking the tights underneath my wide pants again. Comfort + warmth = my favorite winter recipe. On day six I wore knee-high socks which kept me quite cozy as well. It’s all about those secret layers.
>> I think this outfit hits on all of my favorite neutrals at once: tan, warm brown, blue, black and white. It’s fun to reduce an outfit to colors and then dissect it. I think the black bag grounds this look, keeping it from looking more colorful than I want.
>> This 10×10 challenge has really enforced these pants as a closet favorite! It’s given me a great chance to learn how to balance them in an outfit. I’ve realized a low-slow drawstring bag doesn’t work too well because the look feels unbalanced. I’ve attempted to shift that here by bringing the bag higher and adding a necklace for some ‘visual weight’ higher up as well. In the warmer months I look forward to pairing these pants with some wide crop-tops, another great balancing piece.
I’ll be back Friday with my final two looks. Excited to see what you all are styling!
xo,
Andrea
Love the dress and clogs! I had a pair of similar clogs I eBayed like 2 years ago and am kicking myself for not holding on to them! BUT, I found a pair of sandal clogs like the other ones you have at the consignment store and snapped them up! Can’t wait to wear them this spring.
Yay! Those sound cute Rebecca! What a score!
I love your Loop necklaces! How sturdy are the wire pendants? I have a young kid and found that one of my necklaces bends as I get him down and up for naps, in and out of the car, etc.
Hi Charissa!
It depends on the pendant. The ones that are thinner like my kite necklace are more prone to bending, but my fan necklace is too thick and short to bend. And anything made from brass seems to be sturdier. Good luck! I totally know how it goes with wearing things like that and momlife.
Super appreciate your input!
Anytime, good luck!
so far that’s my favorite top paired with those wide leg pants. I think something that can be tucked in works best. very cute looks overall!
Thanks Michelle! I agree! And I think these pants are definitely easier to style in the summer with short sleeved tops, etc. Thanks for weighing in.
Love your (may-or-may-not-exist) tight drawer, Andrea:) Also how you’ve integrated and personalized styling from your travels.
Here in Nelson, British Columbia, we have full-on snow on snow these days – was shovelling at 6am this morning. Yet, I am most definitely not dressed for the weather (this spring, moved back here after a spell in Colorado). I LOVE the wintery months. But somehow have never invested in the right clothes for it. (One winter, I walked around in a hoodie because I’d lost my coat and felt too stubborn to buy new one when spring was coming…)
Thanks for the inspiration here and on Insta! I’m still playing along with this 10×10 – lovely following others doing the same!
Yay, I am so glad to hear you’ve enjoyed this 10×10. It’s been fun stalking some of you out on IG. ;)
I know what you mean, I’ve lived in Oregon for more than 20 years, and I finally, just last season got rain boots. Perhaps we avoid dressing for the weather too because it’s expensive!
I think look number seven is my favorite so far! Such a nice color combination. You’ve definitely inspired me to consider getting a pair of clogs. I had no idea they could be so versatile and stylish.
Yay! I am thrilled to hear that. Clogs are fun, a tad girlie, and definitely timeless.
