Last week I watched the 1994 version of Miracle on 34th Street. And I enjoyed observing the wardrobes almost as much as the plot. Watching Elizabeth Perkin’s tonal outfits and crossbody handbags reminded me just how much I like a good tan and brown outfit. My favorite might have even been when Dylan McDermott’s character wore all camel.
So I’m embracing my camel and brown, and 1990’s handbag.
Last week Jessica requested that I style my Steven Alan skirt for winter. I haven’t worn it yet because I’ve been trying to figure out how to pull it off with something other than black (which makes up the majority of my closet). It seemed a little ‘safe’ and boring to pair it with all black. Turns out these warm shades were just what I needed. Black would contrast nicely, but sometimes I just want a color palette that marries together a bit. Lighter shades of denim beg for lighter hues of complementary pieces. The tights are still a bit dark for this palette. Perhaps an oxblood shade would have pulled the look together nicely. Maybe even something with a little pattern. But sometimes function wins, and I needed these tights to keep me warm. They did the job so nicely I had to shed them to cool off when I was cooking dinner. And we’re in the middle of some serious winter-weather!
[ sweater (unfortunately s/o, but beautiful in a v-neck, and love the oatmeal option) | skirt, Steven Alan via Crossroads (similar in darker denim) | tights | clogs, c/o Bryr | vintage Dooney, thrifted | necklace, gift from husband ]
I hope you guys are staying warm and enjoying this pre-Christmas season. This is officially my last ‘fall’ outfit. Next week I’ll review my favorite looks from the last few months, and spend a little time looking forward to winter.
xo,
Andrea
Thanks for this! I think you did a great job and have inspired me to think outside the box on colour pairings!
Hope you had a lovely Christmas!
Jessica
