No more sale-rack confusion

The dream of the 90’s is alive in Portland, right?  I promise, I’m not taking it literally, or maybe I am…  No seriously, I can’t believe the 90’s are so freakin’ back in style.  But here I am, buying in whole-heartedly.  And it feels so good.  Now, back in the actual 90’s I certainly wasn’t shopping at the likes of Anthropologie, it was more like living it up at the JC Penny’s with dreams of J.Crew, but that’s neither here nor there…

As I wrapped up my spring capsule shopping a few weeks ago, and was trying shoes on at Madewell, the ample sale racks caught my eye and tugged at my heartstrings.  I may have even scanned a shirt or two, but thank goodness for my capsule shopping list (more on that here).  My succinct list included two boxy pocket tee’s from Everlane, a long gray cardigan and a wrap skirt. None of which were on the sale rack.  So instead of buying yet another cool, but likely repetitive top, I saved my precious shopping $$ for some picture completing pieces.

It may not sound as fun, but shopping with a plan is so, so much more fruitful for your wardrobe! Fewer wasted dollars and less wasted time. When I think about how many hours I used to spend shopping, it kind of shocks me. I shopped for sport. I shopped for the rush of getting something new, even if it was just another cheap shirt or something that I’d love for a month before it got swallowed by the back of my closet.

Now that I only shop during my few weeks of pre-season planning, I am slowly training myself new ways to have fun: the Farmer’s Market with my fam (hello salt bagels and fresh eggs!), walks around the city, exploring new neighborhood parks, coffee dates with my main man and the art of perfecting the Old Fashioned – just a few…

I hope this encourages you to spend less time in stores and more time IN life :)
