How to Style Flares

This post is sponsored by Everlane. As always, all opinions, concepts and ideas are my own. Be sure to check out the corresponding IGTV video on Instagram or at the end of this post!

It’s safe to say that flare jeans are back. But in a much better version than their 2000’s iteration. The main difference: the rise! All the great pairs I’ve seen have a gorgeous high-waist that passes the belly-button.

But with every new jean trend, comes a bit of a learning curve. This is especially true with flare jeans, which are a huge shift away from skinny jeans. To help a sister out, I’ve put together a few outfits to show the (many) ways you can style flare jeans.

These flares are from Everlane, and they are hot off the presses, just released today in fact. They are sturdy, soft, stretchy and fitted. And I LOVE THEM! They look good with a surprising amount of styles and they’re damn comfortable. (Sometimes I just need a break from my rigid denim, ok.)

THE STYLING:

ALL DENIM:

My favorite way to wear denim is with more denim! I love the slight western/Americana vibe in this outfit.

VINTAGE INSPIRED:

I knew right away I wanted to pair these jeans with clogs and a vintage tee for a throwback vibe. If you get a chance, watch the IGTV or YouTube video, this photo doesn’t do the outfit justice!

MODERN FLARE JEAN: THE SPECS

Inseam: 31″
Rise: 11″
Material: 87% cotton, 12% elasterell-p, 1% elastane
Made in Vietnam

THE KEY TAKEAWAY:

Because of the nature of the fit of flares – fitted through the waist, hips and thighs, and then flared out from the knee – they can pair with almost anything in your closet. If you’re wearing flares, I’d love to hear how you are styling them!

To see how these flares move IRL, you can catch my IGTV down below. If you want to hear me talk through styling these outfits, head over to my YouTube channel to catch the video!

  1. Hi Andrea, I love every single style in this post! :)
I ordered a pair, but still wonder why Everlane chooses to omit the shorter lengths for some styles. They did the same thing with the Authentic Stretch Bootcut (which happens to be my fav jean). I’ll have to take these to the tailor once they arrive to see if the ‘flare’ can be preserved even after a hem.
I love all your ideas, and if these pants work out, I will be coming back here for reference :)

    1. Hi Pav! Let us know if the tailoring works out. I wonder why they made these in only one length too! They’re such a universal fit, and more inseams would really work well I think. Thank you for the comment! Hope you have a lovely weekend!

  2. Enjoyed this! My favorite is the last look. Would you consider doing a post on the Jane blouse? I’d be curious to know what you think of the quality of Dôen pieces (and the brand’s ethics), and your thoughts on styling the blouse.

    1. Hi Megan, great questions! I probably won’t do a whole post on it, but I’ll see what i can answer here. I really, really like the Jane blouse. I’ve had it for (I think) a couple of years now. It’s a soft, thin, drapey cotton. I think I’m supposed to dry clean it, but I don’t. I usually wash it on delicate by itself. Part of it started to come apart at the back of the collar, but my tailor fixed (and reinforced it) for a nominal fee. I tried another top from them that was substantially thicker, and I think it would hold up better, but the drape wasn’t as nice. I would say their quality is pretty good, but recognize some of their fabrics might be more on the delicate side. As for their ethics, they seem to be committed to responsible manufacturing. I like that they make their jeans in the US. Some folks complain that they don’t have a lot of body diversity in their models. Overall my experience with the brand has been positive.
