I had a good run of outfits in the last week or so, and have been essentially wearing a sweater a day. It’s been so cold here, all I want to do is get cozy! I can’t imagine how intense it’s been for everyone experiencing the polar vortex. If that’s you, I hope you’re staying warm!
This week I tried to style my sweaters with a third piece, and I pushed myself to shake up my usual pullover-and-jeans formula. I’ve been trying to employ an extra slow approach to purchases this year. I want to be mindful of decision fatigue when getting dressed, and don’t want to buy anything that’s going to add to that. So far, I’ve bought two things, and neither lasted in my closet. To find out more, read on…

I wore this last Wednesday, and while I love the color combo, it was an outfit that made me realize this sweater is not for me.
I bought this sweater when it was on sale because I loved the color. Unfortunately I found the style and fit to be a little off for me after wearing it for a few weeks. What I love about Babaa cardigans is the drape, and this style doesn’t have it. It’s a little too fitted and square for my liking.

In other closet news, I sold my brown Kamm pants a month or so ago, and I sorely miss having a pair of brown pants in my closet. I sold my Kamms because that color (Skintone 34) runs slightly small compared to the other sizes of the pants, and I just couldn’t get the fit right for me. To replace them I ordered Doen’s Mojave Pant, which are super cute. But, when I tried them on, I found the front/pocket/belt loop area to be a little too busy for my liking. So, I’ve been on the search for more wide leg options. Future post to come.

I was particularly proud of this outfit because I felt great in it, and my friend Ellie gave me the most generous compliment when we met up for coffee. I am a big fan of winter whites, and I love the way the patterned boots finish the look.

I ordered this beautiful coat in December with the discount code Lee and I shared. It had been on my list ever since I bought the cream version last spring. This time I decided to go down to an extra small, and I like the fit a little better. The overall weight of the coat feels a lot lighter (and less like it’s tugging me down). The sleeves are pretty short though! Hopefully long sleeves underneath will be enough. Felt seriously rad in this outfit.

My version of casual Saturday, these sneakers are getting lots of love! The only reason why I wear boots on other days is that I can put them on faster.

It was a sweater-on-sweater day to combat the cold. If it’s not clear already I am completely a fan of tone-on-tone dressing. I love my outfits 99% of the time I do it.

Please forgive the cell phone quality photo here. I liked this outfit so much, and it’s the only photo I have. I love the contrast of the dressy collared shirt and the casual sneaker. Layering a button up under this sweater makes it extra cozy this time of year. And, I must share: after 2+ years of wearing this sweater, it is still in rocking shape with very little pilling on it.

I love the casual-vintage vibe of this outfit so much. These are my favorite, most-worn jeans, my boots have a nice patina now, and the drapey cardigan adds an extra level of interest (and keeps me warm). If I could figure out how to capture this vibe and dress in it everyday, I would.

Jumpsuits are perfect for the days when you just want to chill in your sweats, but can’t. This denim number is a little thicker and warmer than my others, and I added my thick puffer coat when I left the house. The simplicity of this outfit is very satisfying to me.
These are all great outfits! Would you say the Babaa cardigan was more pink or tan? It looks different on different people.
Hi Kristy, it’s definitely not tan, but not quite pink either. I feel like it looks like rosé, in that it’s a tan-ish pink. Does that help?? The photo on their website is pretty accurate in the color (but of course the color depends on your monitor too).
I loooove that Aritzia sweater coat look! Reminds me of Meghan Markle!
Wow! Huge compliment, I’ll take it!! :) Thanks Lexie.
So many great looks in the bunch! Esp love those crop flood pants and you’re inspiring me to pull out my Reifhaus jumpsuit again!
Thanks girl!! I loved your black wranglers! Think I’m gonna head to the thrift shop today! Excited to see you in your Reifhaus jumpsuit soon!
You are crushing it with those snakeskin boots.
Haha, thank you. It’s a great way to help combat the winter blues when it comes to style!
You wear a lot of white and cream and have 3 kids. I realize that yours are not as young as mine, but I’m wondering how you keep your whites so clean. Would love a post about this. I avoid whites bc they seem too “high maintenance” with 3 young kids though I love the look of a crisp white shirt.
I have two young sons (2 and 7 months) and an ivory silk top that I wear once before it gets washed again. Fortunately it dries overnight, but since most of my other clothes also need washing after one day all I can really do is sigh, smile and… spend a fortune on laundry powder.
Love this idea Sophia, I just put it into my editorial calendar, and will try to get something written this month! Fighting stains is something I’m kind of passionate about, hahaha. Will share more soon!
I love your style. The snakeskin boots are so great!
Aw, thanks Sarah!
I think the Babaa sweater looks amazing on you. But each to their own!
Thanks Lilah. I think if this color came in the other styles, it would be a match made in heaven.
Love the honesty of this post, it’s unrealistic to think that every hyped piece of clothing will work for every body type and style! I’ve done this so many times… in fact I purchased and then sold a babaa sweater recently because it just wasn’t working. And as always, the way you put together outfits is so inspiring! :)
So true Ella. Everything can’t work for everyone. And I definitely don’t think it’s worth hanging on to clothing you can’t LOVE. Thank you for the kind words about my outfits!
Love that Aritizia sweater coat! How tall are you?
Hi Melissa. I’m 5’7 and I believe my coatigan is a small.
These are great outfits–I especially like the outfit with the striped shirt with the long sweater jacket. The ES Clyde pants would eat up a lot of my wardrobe budget for the year, but I am seriously considering them. Do you find them true to size based on the size chart, and do they seem to hold up well from repeated wears and washings? Everything I’ve read about ES leads me to believe the quality is great, but I want to be sure!
Hi Amy, I’m afraid I’m not going to have any good answers for you here. I believe they have changed the sizing a bit since I bought mine, about two years ago. And I have the cotton twill, which has been discontinued. That said, I love my pants a lot. I think it’s worth investing the time to wade through determining your size. I imagine the cotton canvas is legit material, as they always road test their fabrics before they bring them on board. The few items I’ve purchased from ES have always been of the highest quality. Good luck!
Thank you so much for your response!
I must have missed that you were selling that cardigan as I would have snapped it up from you in a heartbeat! Loving all these outfits Andrea xx
Oh no!! I wish I would have remembered that you asked me about it! Do you follow Noihsaf Bazar on Instagram? That’s where I sold it, and a fab second-hand marketplace.
Hi Andrea,
I’m wondering if you’ve had your vintage 501’s altered? They fit you perfectly. I live in the area and desperately need to find a tailor/seamstress with a little imagination and know how. Do you have any recommendations?
I had one pair hemmed and another taken in at the waist. I use DZ Alterations (downtown) for everything. They are very good!
