Hey guys! I spent part of the last few days scrolling through the #FALL10x10 feed on Instagram, and it’s so fun to see what people are wearing. I am really digging this color palette, I want to recreate this look ASAP and I find this mini style biography fascinating. You know what else is kind of blowing my mind right now? The #10x10representationmatters feed. It’s so easy to forget how privileged my perspective is. Reading through the insightful posts and comments reminded me to consider all the things I often forget to consider. The crazy thing about privilege is that if you don’t open your eyes, look around you, and listen to the things people are sharing, you’ll never realize you have it. I’m so thankful for the voices of people who share their stories, especially the ones that look different from my own. If you haven’t looked through the feed on Instagram yet, I highly encourage you to!
I’m constantly amazed by the super smart, thoughtful, wise and giving community of slow fashion on Instagram. You guys are amazing!!
In case you missed the post earlier this week, I am operating out of a mini-closet for the next handful of days. You can read all the details here. In brief, I’m styling eight items into ten looks, shoes not included.
Today, I am sharing my first five outfits, which I’ve been really pleased with! Since today is ‘Day 5’ I actually photographed that one yesterday, but all the other photos were shot on the days I wore the outfits.
Typically, when I do these style challenges, the most creative combinations come at the end, but I’ve really liked what’s come out of the first week!
Before I dive into the looks, I want to make sure you guys saw that I am currently sharing two very special discounts – one for Pyne & Smith and one for Power of My People. The latter expires today. You can find the details down below.
Let’s get to the outfits!
LOOK 1
I originally planned to wear this look in the middle of the challenge, but day one was a nice, sunny day, and it was forecasted to be one of the last ones (a sad reality that we Oregonians face this time of year!) so I made it my dress day. I was almost too warm with these wool tights! I like how streamline the navy tights and black boots look, but I’d be curious how lighter tights (nylons?) might look.
Outfit Details: Model No.20 Shift Dress (S) in Railroad Stripe Linen, c/o Pyne & Smith. Use code SEASONS10 to save 10% through 11/6. | Navy Tights, old (digging these fox tights by Hansel from Basel) | Clog Boots (42), No.6 (similar) | Sweater Jacket, c/o Hackwith Design House, FW17, (no longer available) | Necklace, Pursuits of Happiness, Made in Portland
LOOK 2
This look photographed better than I felt in it. I felt like I had a lot of bulky layers on, which was great because I was warm, but I felt unsure while wearing it. I think the key that helped it come together was the minimal boots. If they had been chunkier, it would have been too much.
I layered a tee underneath my button up for extra warmth, and that felt great. I’ll note that tucking in this shirt all the way felt a bit bulky. I think my preference is to tie it or go for the front tuck. I love the overall color palette of this look. Not sure about the black bag, but was feeling a little too lazy to switch.
Outfit Details: Flannel Button Up (M), c/o Power of My People. I noticed stock is running low in this top, and if you have a taste for flannel I’d try the Kingpin. Use the code S&S20 to save 20%, expires today. | Jeans, Vintage Levi’s (501) (similar) | Theordora Waterproof Bootie, Aquatalia | Sweater Jacket, c/o Hackwith Design House, FW17, (no longer available) | Backpack, c/o Everlane, SS17, (sold out, love this one) | Initial Cuff, Able | Slice Hoops, c/o Baleen
LOOK 3
I think this is my favorite look so far! Dressing in all one color is very satisfying and such a quick, easy hack for a chic look. This bodysuit is so cozy and shockingly comfortable, I’m really glad I included it in my 10×10. The slim fit is a nice compliment to my oversized pieces. I finally cut the bottoms off these pants, I couldn’t be any happier! I cut about 4.25″ inches off and they look so good! I didn’t realize the visual bulk the large cuff created.
Outfit Details: Sweater Jacket, c/o Hackwith Design House, FW17, (no longer available) | Mockneck bodysuit (M), c/o Fauxgerty | Wide Leg Jeans, c/o ABLE | Boots, Loeffler Randall, FW16, no longer available (similar option, love these too)
LOOK 4
I grabbed these shoes out of necessity in the morning and ended up loving how they contrasted with this feminine peasant top. I usually wear this shirt with the first few buttons undone, but decided to try it out this way, and it created a different vibe and kept my neck warmer. It’s nice to have options with the same shirt. This linen is pretty substantial, but since it’s gotten colder I like to layer it with a white tank for warmth.
Let’s talk about these jeans for a minute. Hello full length pants! I can’t remember the last time I wore a pair like this. These are a true straight leg cut, with a 31 inch inseam. I really enjoyed having warm ankles and no sock exposure, but I’m still undetermined if I will have these hemmed or keep them long. They look great with mules and clogs, and it feels like a fresh change for me compared to my sea of cropped jeans. The next time I wear them with boots I will try one big cuff and see how I like it.
Outfit Details: Peasant Top, Muumuu (I believe this one is returning with their fall collection) | Black Jeans (28), Reformation | Sneakers (41), Veja | Backpack, c/o Everlane, SS17, (sold out, love this one) | Simple Hoop Earrings, c/o Mejuri
LOOK 5
This look is a close tie with #3 for my favorite. Please don’t mind the funny face in the first photo, it was the best one showing off the shapes of the dress and jeans together. I knew from day one, I wanted to wear this dress over pants, it’s the main reason why I picked it. Because it’s pretty short, it wears more like a tunic on me. I love that it flows away from the body, but it’s not giant. It’s the perfect mate for my favorite vintage jeans. It’s not an outfit that is conventionally flattering, or even makes sense, but it just feels like home.
I love the overall light tones in this look. The striped dress looks gray from afar but up close is a bit different. The shoes. Wow. I have been eager to try Sevilla Smith hand-lasted shoes for a few years, and took the leap in ordering them after realizing an Etsy gift card I had could be used toward the purchase. I hemmed and hawed for ages over the color and style, and pretty much harassed the people I know who already owned them. In the end, I went for undyed leather and a 2cm heel. They are one beautiful shoe, and they feel so good on. It’s great to finally have a pair of shoes that are flat, but more interesting than most of their counterparts. They feel like slippers and they’re so beautiful. The photos don’t do them justice. The leather will get a few shades darker over time. Excited to see how they change.

If you’re rocking a 10×10 this week, I’d love to hear how your styling is going. Have you run into any challenges yet? And don’t forget to check out the #10x10representationmatters feed!
I love that Pyne and Smith dress so much and I especially love it with the last look. It looks so great with jeans, which I would not have expected. ALSO, it does look a lot like the ES tunic on Salina_Wears feed. With the tights in look 1, it isn’t far off. I think I may have to re-visit ES and compare it to the Pyne and Smith tunic to see which one would work for me. Love all the outfits you put together.
Oh hey, looking at it again, her tunic IS Pyne and Smith! Its the pants that are ES!
Yes, I think it’s the same one! It looks so cute the way she styled it over black, wide leg pants! Thanks for stopping by Brenda!!
Love the P&S tunic!
What I would like to know, could you easily to wear something like a turtleneck underneath?
I think you could if it was a slim-fitting turtleneck. I wore it with a white beater tank underneath, and even just that layer helped me stay warmer too.
Can you talk more about how you chose the Sevilla Smith shoe and the fit? I am interested in purchasing some and would love to hear more about your process! I’d also love to know how they compare in for and wearability to your Nisolo!
Hi Lauren, it was truly tough! There are so many options at Sevilla Smith, and I’m still not 100% I made the right one (in terms of color of leather). I read basically everything on the site about sizing, and it helped me determine that I should order my true Euro size. I wanted a flatter shoe, so I got the lower heel. In terms of comparing with my Nisolos, do you mean with my Mariella Mules? Or a different pair? Over all my Sevilla Smith shoes are super, super comfortable. I would definitely order again!
Hi! I have a question about the Sevilla smith as well. Ive been on th perfect shoe hunt and finally went with some no. 6 clogs but unfortunately my arch is just too high for the lower heel base. So I’ve also been contemplating the exact pair you bought for a while now. There are a few other colors similar they I’m considering as well. How do you think they’ll hold up with pdx weather? I’m in park cit, Ut. I know I won’t wear them on the days when it dumps snow but I’m wondering about the days where there might be snow on the ground but I’m not walking in it. On that point, did you add the sole that so many people recommend? Any thoughts?
Hi Shannon, I am planning to add a sole saver to the bottom of my booties in the next week or so. I love them, but the leather does absorb a lot of moisture on the bottom, which can lead to stretching. The booties feel soooo good when I wear them! With the help of the sole saver, I expect they will hold up well in lightly damp weather (sprinkles, not downpours). I think the waxy leathers would do well too. Some of the softer, more suede-like ones might not. Do they salt in Park City? That might be something to keep in mind when considering how the shoes will wear.
