Every once in a while I find the day-to-day documenting of my outfits gets a little stale, both for me and for you. The task of taking photos each day becomes burdensome, and I find it starts to influence what I decide to wear. (Thoughts like “Is this good enough?” or “I just wore this” pervade my mind.) Taking time off from the weekly What I Wore posts is the best solution for me to recharge my creative energy a bit. But inevitably, I end up pulling together an outfit that I still want to share with you guys.
That’s where today’s post comes in. Instead of a sharing a complete week of outfits, I am sharing what is essentially my ‘highlight reel’ from the last few weeks. Here they are, in the order that I wore them.
Alta Top (S/M), c/o Only Child | Clyde Work Pant (4/R), in cotton twill, Elizabeth Suzann, SS17 (similar in cotton canvas) | Chloe Peep Toe Clog (41) in Blush nubuck, Bryr | Form Bag, c/o Everlane
This look was super fun to pull together as I processed all that I was learning in Wonder Wardrobe’s course on color harmony. (More to come in a future blog post!) So often I shy away from adding more than one color family to a look, but as I learn how colors work together, I’ve been pushing myself to be more creative.
I felt great in a colorful outfit, and I did not feel loud, or over the the top. (Something I tend to be afraid of!) I look forward to continuing to grow in my color knowledge in regards to outfit building. I think it will come in handy when our PNW gloomy weather takes over for the season. There is something energizing about wearing well-considered color instead of another gray sweater.
Cardigan no18 (one size), Babaá Knitwear | Air Dolman Tee (M), c/o Everlane | Jeans, Vintage Levi’s (501) (similar) | Mariella Mule, c/o Nisolo | Form Bag, c/o Everlane | Eloria Necklace, c/o Loop Jewelry, (use code Seasons10 to save 10%)
An essential ‘Andrea look’ here with light, warm neutrals and easy-on-off shoes. I wore this exact look again about a week later. There is something so safe and comfortable in these cozy favorites.
Cardigan no18 (one size), Babaá Knitwear | Wide Leg Jumper, c/o HDH Basics | Mule, c/o ABLE (limited sizes available) | Circle Bag, Baggu | Slice Hoops, c/o Baleen
Dear jumpsuits, I love you forever. Sincerely, Andrea. I picked up this little bag on sale in my quest to find a lighter-shade neutral purse. It’s super tiny, which makes it easy to wear and hard to overstuff. If you haven’t tried Baggu yet, I love their leather bags. The designs are ultra minimal and the leather is very soft.
Cardigan (M/L) Cuyana | Jumpsuit, c/o Matter Prints | Clogs, No.6 (similar) | Circle Bag, Baggu
Having a light colored bag has an entirely different impact on an outfit than a brown or black bag. I like how this bag ties in to the cardigan and keeps the overall look bright.
Jane Blouse (M), Dôen | Jeans, vintage Levi’s 505’s, Etsy | Waterproof Bootie, Aquatalia | Cardigan no19 (one size), Babaá Knitwear | Bag, Vintage Dooney & Bourke (similar)
I wore this to FEAST, a big, local food event over the weekend. (You may have seen it on Instagram.) And, though I was worried I’d be too casual, it was a home run. The boots were super comfortable (I was on my feet for approximately 6 hours!) and the sweater kept me toasty when it got cold out. The generous cut of this cardigan is perfect for layering over tops with big sleeves.
Cotton Crewneck (M), c/o Everlane | Cheeky Jean in washed black (27R), Everlane | Clog Boots (42), No.6 (similar) | Classic Tote, c/o Cuyana
Super simple weekend look for a day that included a softball game and appliance shopping. Dressing for the outdoors this time of year is tricky. The temperatures can wildly fluctuate and, I swear, it can rain in a moment’s notice. I am happy to report I stayed warm and dry (thanks to the help of this coat) and not too hot!
In other news….
I’ve been working on lots of new and fun content for fall. It’s a busy time of year for most of the independent designers I follow, as they release their cold weather collections. I’m very excited to be working with a few of them over the coming weeks, to highlight some of their new pieces and share more about their makers. Stay tuned!
Such a great circle bag! I’ve had my eye and only heard good things about baggu for awhile now.
Missed your outfit posts a lot so glad it’s back!
Have a great day. xo!
Thanks for the love Jodie, always happy to have you here!
A few readers on my reader survey suggested I do something like this, but I agree that it can get unmanageable if you have to photograph yourself everyday. I might do a highlight reel, too!
Leah, I’d love to see you give this a shot! Maybe make an easy set up in your house to do it, or even with a big mirror! I bet your readers would love it.
That denim jumpsuit look!! All the heart eyes.
Thanks girl, it is like elevated overalls! ><
I love this post! That first look is amazing. I wish the Alta top fit me. I’m short and small and it fits me like a tunic – I can’t front tuck it or anything. I wish Hailey would make it in XXS. You are giving me serious Fall-lust. I think I need to move somewhere where sweater weather is a thing :)
Oh man, I can’t imagine it being a tunic on you! That’s kind of funny. I usually don’t front tuck my alta because it’s short. I really love the style because it’s kinda cropped but never showing off my midriff. Hmmm, maybe the ES Linn tee would be an option Mel?
Have you tried machine washing your Jane Blouse? I’m wondering if I can cheat and wash mine at home instead of lugging it to the cleaners…
I have, yes, 2x! I put it in by itself, and washed on cold, and pulled it out as soon as the cycle was done. I think the fabric may vary from Jane to Jane, but mine seems pretty hearty, it’s 52% cotton and 48% viscose. And the tag on mine says ‘hand wash’ and not dry clean! I’m not sure why the website doesn’t reflect that…
Interesting, mine has the same fabric content but says to dry clean only. Thanks!
Hi! I just received my rust linen Alta and don’t love it on me! Did yours soften up? I feel like it’s too stiff and with the cropping, makes my broad shoulders look even broader. I do love how you paired it with the olive Clydes!
Yea I love how it looks on Andrea so I went ahead and bought a black linen one… what a disaster! Lol I’m just a bit taller than her but it is way too short on me! Even with my highest waisted jeans! The linen is also too hot for the summer so I sold mine ….
Hi Angela, yes, it has softened up a little, but I never found it to be very rough in the first place. I love that the weight of it is so thick! But if it’s a no-go on your shoulders, maybe you should opt for the tencel version!
I love the first and second looks! And your hair in it’s natural texture is amazing. I’ve stopped using heat styling tools on my hair, and I’m amazed at the texture I see. I don’t have wavy hair or anything, but I have a lot more texture than I expected.
Thank you so much Erika! A kind word about my hair goes a long way for me!!! :) That is so neat to hear about your texture’s hair being revealed in the absence of heat tools. It’s kind a relief to find it, huh?!
First of all, the colorful look really does look awesome on you! So cheerful! And I’m loving this highlight reel, perhaps even more than daily pic compilation? I like seeing favorites and real life use! Annnnnd those cheeky jeans, the more I see them the more I think they may end up in my closet this season!
Thank you Sarah!!! Your input always means a lot to me. I hope you end up with the cheeky jeans!
I’m excited to see who you work with this fall. I’d love to see some suggestions for truly warm (i.e. can stand up to a PNW winter) ethical sweaters, especially some closer fitting options that are easy to layer.
Thanks Mandy!! I am excited too! A hint on the sweaters: Everlane’s waffle knits, particularly the cashmere ones, are REALLY warm, and work well for layering!
I just looked at your blog and saw that you’re not a fan of Everlane >< I would try Slum Love or Bareknits for layerables. One of my personal favs is L'envers, but they might be a bit trickier for layering.
How do the aquatalia boots run? Are they very comfortable? Thanks!
Do you ever add up what one of your outfits actually costs? I have looked at some and they could be $1000! And what about your entire wardrobe, so many shoes and bags and coats and jewelry! If you weren’t receiving so much for free would this cause you to be in debt? I just wonder if bloggers stop and think about the influence they have and maybe the temptation others feel to have all of these items for themselves? Thank you, I just have this thought and wonder if anyone feels the same way, the pressure to have all the best things? Like when is it enough enough for one person? Is this really a sustainable way for the earth?
Hi Greta, you’re right, I feature a lot of expensive garments on Seasons and Salt, and the fact that all added up some outfits are pricey, is not lost on me. It’s often on my mind and I wrote a blog post this week about the tension of running a style blog and keeping a lean closet. It’s not easy for sure.
I really believe in the ethics of how items are made and that often means a higher price point. I want to be a resource for people to find ethical clothing and that means I may buy more than the average person and I often receive gifted items.
My intent is not to encourage everyone to buy everything I have, but instead show that there are amazing options in the ethical fashion world. And show people what they look like on a real person who wears them in multiple ways. I also have the privilege of helping small businesses connect with a bigger audiences.
I am tempted to over shop just as much as the next person. When I feel that way, I take a step back from my triggers. For me that’s usually Instagram. I like to take little chunks of time off here and there to clear my head. If you need to take a break from my blog because it makes you feel that way, I totally understand. I think it’s super important for us to carefully evaluate what we’re consuming on a regular basis.
