Thanks for reading along in this fun series with me. It’s been a good challenge to myself to consider creative ways to cultivate contentment in my life. I so easily get caught up in the cycle of desiring more and more. For me, the cycle tends to feed itself. The more I buy, the more I want. And ironically, the opposite is true. The less I buy (and shop!), the more content I am. Even though it’s hard, I am purposing to pause and thoughtfully consider how I can (slowly) build a wardrobe I love.
Today’s tip harkens back to when I wrote about how fewer options = more creativity. A great way to spur creativity is to pick a handful of items and put them on high repeat. Please welcome, our final tip:
[Tip #5: The 10×10 Closet Challenge] As seen here and here, this is an assignment where one takes ten of their favorite items and creates ten different looks. The goal behind it is to spark creativity by dramatically limiting options.
If I were to do the 10×10 Closet Challenge, I would pick three sleeveless tops, one cotton vest, my two very favorite shorts, one skirt, mom jeans, huaraches and chunky heels. It was really hard for me to narrow this down, but now looking at them, I can easily see that these are some my most favorite and most worn items in my closet. These are also some of my most versatile pieces. They can pretty much all interchange with each other. Since I only recently kicked off my summer capsule, I have a ways to go before any boredom sets in, so I will not be trying my own 10×10 challenge… yet. However I am going to keep the idea in the back of my mind in case I start to get a wandering eye come August…

This is so good. I could literally wear these pieces all summer long. I need to get motivated and do something like this.

Thanks Becky. I love summer clothes because they can be so effortless compared to other seasons.
Love the 10×10! I did a “hypothetical” one to scratch the itch before I broke into my summer capsule and it was enlightening. I also find it a great way to take a fresh look at my proposed capsule (especially new purchases!) to make sure that what I’m building will really work for me.
Great points Maggie!!
I was just thinking it might be fun to do this with the LEAST worn items in my capsule – see if it would help me get to know them a little better.
