In case you miss my last blog post, I decided my goal for this year is to add 24 or fewer items to my wardrobe. My plan is to pop back in here with monthly updates and share any new items I’ve added.
I read back through my wardrobe goals for 2023, and it was a bit sobering for me to read that I set a very similar goal for last year and failed miserably. I suspect I got derailed by start up of a very enticing Sézane partnership. However I am very grateful for that opportunity. It allowed me to boost my professional wardrobe and get acquainted with a very lovely brand, whose knits I’ll forever be obsessed with. (In case you’re not a regular around here, as of 2022, I am no longer a full time blogger, I am a full time real estate agent. Hit me up if you’re house shopping in the Portland area or need a referral for a great agent in another market.) I try to hold no regrets for last year’s missed goal. On to 2024!
January generally feels like a pretty easy month to not shop. Coming off the consumption and purchasing frenzy of the holidays and indulgence of all the things, January usually is a month where we all kind of want a clean slate. However, for the month of January, I added three things. Two of the items were from finishing out my partnership with Sézane. I also added a pair of shoes from my very favorite shoe maker, who I have an ongoing (and low quantity) partnership with. I am very grateful to be able to support both of these companies.
The Items
The Emile Cardigan by Sézane in Red, c/o (seen with low rise, baggy jeans (sized down) and Sambas, also seen with 90’s Jeans).
This cardigan has become a favorite in my closet, I have it in multi-color and striped, and in January added the red version. Red is clearly having a moment, and I hope it lasts for a long time. Adding red to my wardrobe has really brightened up my outfits and my mood. It’s perfect against the backdrop of winter and it will be absolutely lovely to wear in the spring as well. I sized down in the cardigan to a S, but I also have it in M in a different color for an oversized fit. Unfortunately this color is sold out, but the Ysaline Cardigan is a beautiful option. And I love the Clara Cashmere Crewneck for a more classic look.
I’d like address the ‘low rise’ jeans for a moment. I was reading an article last night about millenial’s struggle to adapt to new trends, one of them being ‘low rise’ jeans. And I ended up on a stylist’s TikTok account, who made a great clarification for me on today’s take on low rise. She noted they’re not 2-inch rise jeans of the Y2K-era, but more of a 7-8-inch rise. I don’t know if I’ll ever wear jeans with even that low of a rise, but I thought the distinction about this trend was helpful! I don’t think anyone wants to see ultra low rise back on the scene!
2. Albane Loafers by Sézane, c/o (seen with straight leg jeans (TTS), and men’s cotton sweater in XL)
These shoes are one part fun, one part practical. The lug soles are super practical for our rainy season, and the almond toe does a great job of elongating the leg line. I haven’t worn these a ton because right after I got them we had an ice storm and then after that I went to Mexico. But I am excited to bring some subtle color to my outfits with these beautiful, burgundy shoes. Plus, loafers are peak Realtor shoes for their easy-on-off qualities! I have them in my usual size.
3. Jada Ballet Flat by Freda Salvador, c/o, (seen with Mari Barrel Pants, Liner Jacket and Mockneck Sweater)
These are the salsa to my wardrobe right now! We’ve had a streak of sunny days in Portland, and oo-la-la, these have made me and my feet so happy. They are butter-soft and lightweight, I’ve already worn them for a day at work, and for some substantial walking around running errands, with almost no need for breaking in. These are part of the recent spring launch from Freda Salvador, and per usual, their line up is gorgeous! The Jadas also come in a fabulous green color as well as gold. My other top picks from the spring release: the checked sneakers and studded fisherman sandals. (Pretty sure I am going to spring for the latter when the weather warms up). I am forever a fan of Freda shoes because their quality and style is unmatched. Slipping on a pair of their shoes is the quickest way to make an outfit look good! I am wearing them in my usual size. I’d love to hear if you are doing a low buy or a no buy for 2024. I’ll be back in this space with another blog update next month! Thanks for stopping by!
Those red flats! I love the high vamp and the woven leather. I avoid wearing red by my face, but you’re tempting me to give it a go on my feet!
I love them! I hope you decide to go for it!
