Palm Springs: A (Slow) Vacation Diary

My good friends Paige and Jaana and I usually get together about every six months or so for some quality time. However, the pandemic has definitely changed our pace. After almost two years without our girls trip, we finally had plans for a three night trip to Palm Springs this month.

I thought when I got home from this trip I’d put together a blog post about what to see or do in Palm Springs. I even got messages from a few Instagram friends asking me to share my recommendations for what to do and see in the area. At the very least, I thought I’d share a post about what I wore. But, upon reflection, it was not that kind of vacation. Instead, it’s was more of a ‘slow’ vacation. There was no hurry or hustle, heck, there were barely any outfits beyond loungewear. And it was just what I needed.

1. We Lingered.

Each night we spent about six hours standing around the kitchen island of our AirBnB eating, drinking, talking, laughing, sometimes even dancing. There was no agenda, other than relax, have fun and just be ourselves and enjoy each others’ company. It was magical, I didn’t want it to end!

2. We Lounged.

We purposely picked an AirBnB that would have everything we needed, aka a pool and a hot tub and plenty of outdoor seating. We took our morning coffee on the little couch area, sunned ourselves by the pool in the afternoon, and dipped in the hot tub when it got chilly.

3. We Walked.

This is probably my favorite thing to do on any vacation. It’s a great way to see where you’re at and immerse yourself in the local surroundings. And it’s an excellent way to move your body. I especially love walking in the nice, sunny weather.

We walked around our cute, quiet AirBnB neighborhood, and on the third day we spent some time walking around downtown Palm Springs. I love taking in the sites of the landscape (so different from the PNW!), the architecture (Spanish revival and midcentury), and the people.

4. We Rested.

When there is no agenda, there is so much time for REST. Obviously, sleeping 8+ hours per night was in order, but so were slow afternoons, slow meals, and basically everything at an easy relaxed pace.

And for the curious, my airport looks: Aritzia jacket, Lett hoodie*, Able Tee* (use ANDREA15 to save), Everlane Jeans* / Agolde Jeans, Nike Air Max 90, Tote, Loopy Case*
