Gift Guide #1 – The Tween

As we prepare for the season of ‘merry and bright,’ gift-giving is often top of mind. This week on S+S, I am sharing my annual gift guides in the hopes of making your holiday shopping a little bit easier.

But first, a caveat. I do not think the holidays should be heavily focused on buying things, replacing our presence with presents, or over-extending ourselves financially. Most marketing this time of year would try and convince us otherwise, so I think it’s important to set your own parameters around gift giving and spending.

I do love the tradition of a well-selected gift for a loved one. In our family, gift-giving is minimal. We do very little gift exchanging outside our immediate family of five. But the gifts I do buy, I like to be well-considered, something that will resonate with the receiver.

This week on the blog, I’m doing my best to help with that. I’ll be sharing three separate gift guides with you guys, and the first one kicks off today!

This is the Tween Gift Guide, influenced and approved by the tweens in my house. I’ll admit. I’m a little more in tune with girls of this age than boys but hopefully this list will help you get started.

1. Kodak Printomatic Instant Camera – This seems like a great option to create photos IRL instead of online. I love that this little camera prints its own photos and has a 5MP sensor and an f/2 lens. A bigger sensor and a wider lens means it captures more light and details in photos.

2. PopSockets, Sparkle + Animal – If your tween/teen has a phone, you know how beloved these things are!

3. Lava Lamp – Nothing sets the mood in a young person’s room better than a lava lamp! This is number one on my tween’s list.

4. Roblox Gift Card – I was very opposed to spending money on video games for a long time. But my daughter loves this game, so I’ve softened my stance, and it’s nice to know that a little bit goes a long way in the game.

5. Converse Hiker – Alright, I’m not a tween, but I have a pair of these in a different color and they are so comfortable. But If I was a tween, I’d be drooling over this cloud-inspired version!

6. Settlers of Catan + Seafarer Expansion Pack – Settlers of Catan is one the all-time best board games in my opinion. It has strategy, politics and can be as hard or simple as you make it. My seven-year-old loves it and has been known to beat the adults. If Settlers is not new to your household, try out the super fun Seafarers expansion pack.

7. Fleece Throw Blanket – Nothing says ‘I love you’ like a year-round hug via fleece blanket. I love the color of these, and I kind of want one.

8. Faux Fur Slides – Is this turning into a gift guide for me?! I want these too.

9. Ultimate Detangler Brush – This is billed as the best brush for tangles and has more than 700 positive reviews. This one comes in several fun colors.

10. Sheepskin Slippers – These are cozy and cute, and the hard sole is great for walking on carpeted stairs or a quick pop outside.

11. Rainbow Tufted Mini Throw Pillow – This would look so cute and cozy on a teen or tween bed!

12. Hydro Flask Water Bottle – Apparently, these are all the rage and they keep your water cold too.

13. Moon Metal LED Sign – This is another personal favorite of mine. It seems like a great way to bring a cozy and chill vibe to a bedroom.

I hope these ideas are helpful for you! Check back tomorrow for my second gift guide for ‘The Style Enthusiast’.

Edited to add: I’ve decided to combine my last two guides into ‘The Everybody List’ – I can’t wait to share it with you on Wednesday!
