We’ve just rounded the bend on two years of living in our home. If you’re new here, we lived in various apartments and townhouses around Portland until we were able to purchase a single family home in our desired neighborhood. Four years of living in small places with three kids has given me a DEEP appreciation for single-family homes, and has helped me to love ours no matter how perfectly imperfect it is. (And it’s helped me have a little more patience for the list of house projects I want to tackle – ahem, a new paint color.)
You know how when you move in there is an initial push to furnish and decorate your home? And then after some time, or exhaustion sets in, you just STOP and no longer see the empty walls or missed decoration opportunities? THAT IS ME. As we move into this fall and winter season I am vowing to change that. I need to decorate my dining room, bedroom and hallway in a serious way. And since I know we’ll be home a lot, I’ve decided this is the year I’m going to get those things done. (A few weeks ago I ordered a bed! More to come on that.) As I slowly chip away at those projects I’ll try to share more here on the blog.

Today, I am excited to share a post that has been birthed out of my own desire for simple fall decor. I started out searching for a simple wreath and ended up stumbling into a whole blog post. I love a subtle decor shift with the changing of seasons. I am not one to go hog-wild on holiday decorations, but I can appreciate a well-placed pumpkin, a vase with dried grasses or a simple wreath. In my search for simple (and chic) fall home decor these are the items and concepts I came up with.
4 SIMPLE WAYS TO DECORATE FOR FALL:
Minimal Vase w/Dried Grasses
I have a beautiful mid-century vase that I scored at Value Village a few years ago that sits on my media console. And now I know exactly what to put in it, faux pampas grass. If I were buying a vase, the black pitcher would be at the top of my list. I love adding pops of black decor to my home which is filled with a lot of brown wood and brick.
Simple Wreath
This is the item that started it all, my search for a simple wreath! I was surprised how hard it was to find a good one, so many are sold out. A well-selected wreath on a front door sets the tone for entering a home and I just love that. Don’t forget wreath hooks in black or gold.
Architectural Fruit Bowl with Gourds
I love a good centerpiece on my dining room table. It makes the room feel decorated and pulled together with very little effort. I love to use a big bowl and put gourds or little pumpkins from the grocery store in it. And then the rest of the year I like to put fresh apples in my centerpiece bowl, or some cute round, rattan balls I bought years ago.
Earth Tone Pumpkins
I LOVE a white pumpkin. I suppose that isn’t exactly an earth tone but it’s very soothing to look at! Especially if you prefer neutral decor or don’t like a lot of visual noise or clutter. I have one well-place white pumpkin on my media console and it’s the perfect, subtle nod to the season.
Happy (minimal) decorating!
