STYLE SESSION: The Puffed-Sleeve Shirt

Today’s post is an ode to one lovely shirt with very poofy sleeves. Ironically, I bought this shirt after seeing it styled in a Reel on Instagram, and today I present to you my very own Reel! You can watch it over on the ‘gram, and for those who want photos and size and outfit details, this is the companion blog post!

I bought this shirt because I love the:
-Giant, poofy sleeves
-Generous shirttails for easy tucking
-Sweet Peter Pan collar

Bonus points:
-Slight shirring on the shoulders
-No-iron wearability
-Looks ridiculously cute

OUTFIT 1:

There is something about slim-fit overalls and a puffy top that always feels right to me. It’s like taking overalls and making them a little bit more sophisticated. Here, I decided to button up the shirt all the way and it still feels playful because of the Peter Pan collar style.

OUTFIT 2:

I recently watched a video about how to balance outfits using the rule of thirds, and I think I’ve done it here! The blousey top = 1/3 and the long, full jeans make up the other 2/3. Aesthetically, our eyes like to see proportions on the third rather than half. It makes a lot of sense that would apply to outfits too!

OUTFIT 3:

Would you believe me if I told you I’ve had this skirt since high school? I’ve held onto it because it seems like the kind of item that never goes out of style. AND it’s really well made (back when the GAP used to be top-notch).

OUTFIT 4:

And lastly, I went for a little bit of a cowboy vibe here with the belt and the pants. This outfit could have been finished off with almost any shoe. My heart always leans practical!

  1. I had that GAP skirt too and I loved it! I eventually got rid of it because I no longer prefer above the knee skirts on me. But man, those were the days.
