the Weekly Rundown: A Summer Bag + the Splintering of the Evangelical Soul

I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect woven bag for spring and summer, but the search has taken considerably more legwork than I expected. So many ‘basket bags’ are far overpriced in my opinion ($400 for a delicate straw tote seems like too much!). But I just came across leather woven totes! They have the same feel but are made with much more durable materials. I bought the Nantucket bag in natural, and I caught it on sale at Shopbop, and they have a few other styles left. You can also find them on Matchesfashion.

As I sift through my style and sort out what I like these days, it was nice to come across this week of outfits from a few years back and feel like I would wear all of this now. It was a good touchstone to try and understand consistent themes throughout the years.

Everlane sent me these shorts in dark blue and I highly recommend them. They run true to size.

Did you see that REIFhaus released their Lou Jumpsuit in new linen colors for summer? Lilac and celery! My discount code LOULOVE15 is good for 15% off on any of the jumpsuits!

I love how much of an open book Prince Harry has been since moving to the states, particularly: speaking about his views as a parent and how addressing his mental health has changed him.

The Splintering of the Evangelical Soul. This one helped me see with a clearer focus something I’ve been seeing undeniably with my own eyes over the last few years. Christians have never been more divided than we are now, specifically over religious liberties, racism, politics, masks, and vaccines. It keeps stunning me over and over. But this article offers a look at why this is happening, and what we might do to fix it.

We’ve been enjoying grilling weather this week and just made my favorite greek turkey burgers. These are SO moist, and a big favorite of ours, especially with the homemade tzatziki!

  1. Just a note from your friendly neighborhood seminarian that Christians have a long history of being divided. The English Reformation was BLOODY. They literally went back and forth killing each other. And the Civil War caused denominations to completely split based on their allegiance to the North or South. That’s not to say that we’re not experiencing another significant set of ideological shifts, but just to say that perspective can be helpful!

    1. Thank you Leah! I always love your wise, seminarian insights. Great point!!! I don’t think you describe yourself as evangelical, but have you noticed these new fractures in your circles? I am frankly floored by what I’ve seen and heard. And I think so much of it goes back to the ‘media gluttony’ described in the article. It really makes me think about how much time I spend consuming media.

      1. It’s definitely been extremely tense ever since Trump first started campaigning, I would say. There’s such a profound disconnect in perception and it’s horribly exacerbated by lack of trust in media and the destabilization of “truth.” In my religious circles, it has been less of an issue, but in my own family, it has been rather difficult.
