5 Things I’m Excited to Wear Again This Fall

One of the perks of being a ‘style blogger’ – or someone who chronically catalogs my outfits – is that I can look back on photos from previous seasons and get inspired by what I’ve already worn. Couple that with this time of year, when it feels like summer is slipping through my fingers like sand, and I can’t help but look at my jeans and non-sandal shoes with a bit more interest.

Have you started thinking about what you’re excited to wear again for fall?

The other day I was digging through old photos and outfit posts, and I got inspired to share some items I am excited to wear in the coming cooler weather.

MIDWEIGHT JACKETS

Shoulder seasons, fall and spring, are the best time for styling in my opinion. They are also the hardest (for me) because there are so many elements to work with. The not-too-hot, not-too-cold weather means you can incorporate almost any item under the sun from your closet.

Shoulder seasons are also perfect for midweight jackets, the kind that serve more of a sartorial purpose than a weather purpose. The light and midweight jacket section of my closet is disproportionately big, and under-utilized. Next month my goal is to wear as many of my lightweight jackets as I can because the weather will be on my side. Some I look forward to wearing are: Everlane’s Cotton Quilted Jacket (pictured above), Elizabeth Suzann’s Clyde Trench (also pictured above, but sadly unavailable, you could try secondhand), a few work jackets I have, and my blazers!

Babaà SWEATERS

If I could sing a love story to sweaters, it would certainly be to my Babaàs. They are somehow functional, unexpected, and a bit edgy all in one cozy package of natural fibers. I have two wool cardigans and I wear them relentlessly in the winter because they are so warm, and the oversized sleeves mean they fit over all my tops and blouses. I feel like they add great shape to my outfits. I wrote a review a few years back if you’d like more info.

AGOLDE JEANS / BAGGY JEANS

Alright, I am excited to wear most of my jeans, but I look forward to my Agolde’s in particular because they are so close to my beloved vintage jeans (but with a high waist!) and they are so comfy. Agolde jeans are a bit of a splurge, and I’m convinced that’s because they put extra love into the denim distressing, the washes are just so good!

I have a pair of the 90’s jeans, which is billed as a midrise, but if you size down it fits like a high rise. Mine are a bit baggy on me since my body has changed a little over the last few months, but I just bought a cute belt to keep them high on my waist. I’m kind of excited to experiment with baggy jean styling. (If I figure out any tips, I’ll share a blog post on the topic!)

WHITE SNEAKERS

I am a self-declared white sneakers junkie. I love the way they ground an outfit – they look cool and they feed into my deep-seeded desire for practicality. In a nutshell, white sneakers improve nearly every outfit they encounter. The ones in this photo are from Veja and they are pure classics. My Everlane Court shoes are a close second. For high tops, PF Flyers are my favorite!

Dr. MARTEN BOOTS

As a child and teen of the 90’s, the Dr. Marten revival makes me almost as happy as the Birkenstock revival. These are probably the single most wet-and-cold-weather-friendly item in my closet. I wore these so much because they are so warm, cozy and COOL. I am thinking about adding a pair of mary janes to my closet in a nod to my favorites from high school.

I am definitely excited to shift out of summer styling and into cooler-weather outfits. However, while it’s still warm, I’ll be experimenting with getting a little more mileage out of my shorts by pairing them with some lightweight long sleeves, or even cotton sweaters. And I’ll rotate through some of my dresses while I can. I’d love to hear what kinds of outfits you’re putting together right now. Happy styling friends!

  1. I’m wearing my wool Babaa cardigan already – it’s a bit absurd (it’s still plenty warm on Vancouver Island) – but if I feel the tiniest bit chilly I go for it. I can hardly wait for the true cool weather!

  2. I have a mild wool allergy and am always on the hunt for non-wool sweaters. I love the look of the Babaa sweater and even the ribbed Lyle Henley sweater you featured from Madewell recently. Any suggestions for similar looks/styles made with different materials?
