Frivolous Outfits of Quarantine **Updated: Vetta on Sale*

How are you doing this week? Are you finding ways to keep occupied? Entertained? Maybe you’re busier than ever and just trying to survive.

This week I am throwing myself into my three children’s at-home education and it has been a welcome reprieve from the news. I simply do not have the time to look while keeping a kindergartner, second-grader and fifth-grader on task. On Sunday night I was so immersed in the planning and new schedule that I almost felt ‘normal’ by the end of the night. My mind was engaged in something different and I felt productive.

I also decided to play dress up with some pretty things in my closet. Things I likely won’t be wearing for a long time. *sigh*

I felt kind of sad while doing it. I suppose it was a way of grappling with the current reality we are facing. But oddly, afterwards I felt good. I was happy I created something (outfits, photos). I am by nature a creator and doing so gives me lots of satisfaction. And, when I took off the pretty items and put my day sweats on, I had new appreciation for them. The act of shifting from dressy to relaxed clothes made me… relaxed. Afterwards I made an oat milk latte and read a magazine.

Do you have a creative outlet that brings you joy right now? Are you able to do it?

Thank you for indulging me in this post and allowing me to share my thoughts. I’ll be back on Friday with a re-cap of my quarantine outfits for the week! I’ve been wearing pants with buttons (some days) and it feels pretty good!

Much love.

  1. I spent the first week and a half working on painting some furniture and rearranging things. Now that task is finished, so I’m trying to think of new ways to be creative. It’s funny how much I fall back on creative projects rather than “intellectual” ones (even though, theoretically, I have plenty of schoolwork to keep me occupied). There is something therapeutic about the visceral, almost intuitive aspect of painting a piece of furniture or putting together an outfit. I may start playing dress-up in earnest soon.

    1. I love your candor Leah. I can definitely see that. Creative projects tap into our mind differently than academic/intellectual work. My husband and I are both finding it difficult to concentrate on our workloads during this time. I think the pandemic weighs heavy even in our subconscious mind.

  2. There is a small movement in St. Louis to get ‘dressed up’ on Sunday…..even if just for 10 minutes and long enough to snap a pic. The idea is to pull something from your closet that is only worn on special occasions, or to simply play dress up. A sweet idea and celebration of sorts.

  3. I love the floral dress on you. It’s so different from your normal style, but yet still fits in to your closet! I’ve been getting dressed up on Sundays with my family just to keep some form of normalcy. It’s been a fun (yet frivolous) thing to look forward to!

    1. Thanks Karin! It is pretty different! That’s such a great idea about Sundays! A fun tradition to have right now. :) I have been hard core in my PJs on the weekend, but getting dressed each weekday. We will see how this weekend goes! Hope you guys are doing well.
