Spring Jacket Weather is Coming | Alex Mill Intro

As soon as the cold weather starts to lift, the first things I want to ditch are my winter coats. Anything puffy, heavy or that comes with a hood. It’s not that I don’t love and appreciate them, but after 5-6 months I am eager to let my outfits do the talking and not my big coats. My favorite thing to swap them out for: spring jackets. I like them long, I like them short, I like them bold, I like them minimal, I like them oversized, I like them fitted. I like them almost every way they come.

This is the Long Work Jacket from Alex Mill. Every once in awhile a new brand pops up on my radar and I get really excited to share them with you. I found them on Instagram a few months ago, and was immediately attracted to their ‘workwear’ vibe. Their collection feels like it’s straight out of Brooklyn, and has casual, cool, pieces that still manage to feel a bit elevated. The kind of clothing you could pair with sneakers, edgy platforms or clogs and look effortlessly-pulled together.

I styled this jacket with heeled boots and a collared shirt for a more elevated look. It’s called a ‘work’ jacket, but I think it’s fun to take casual items and dress them up, and the other way around. But since my lifestyle is pretty casual, I look forward to wearing this jacket with my favorite sneakers, mules and even sandals!

Have you heard of Alex Mill before? They make their clothing in China with six different factories they’ve had close relationships with since the brand started a few years ago. They recently hired a sustainable design expert, so I hope we’ll hear more from them about how and where their clothes are made in the very near future!

  1. What a wonderful transitional coat.
I need a new one and this is the model I’m looking for.
What can you tell me about the sleeves?
Are they very fitted or can you easely wear something like a sweater underneath?
    Love the colour!

    1. Hi Martine, the sleeves have a pretty traditional fit. I think a slim sweater would fit well, but anything would loose/balloon sleeves probably wouldn’t fit. I hope that helps!

  2. Alex Mill is a collab between Alex Drexler (yes, that Drexler) and Somsack Sikhounmuong, former head designer at J. Crew and Madewell. You can absolutely see the influence here. Love the coat. I hope they’ll trend toward ethically made BIFL-quality wear instead of feeling the fast fashion pressure.

    1. Thanks for pointing that out Jennifer, yes you can totally see those influences! I am excited to see how this brand continues to move forward, both from a design standpoint AND the last thing you pointed out. I would love to see them keep to their own pace for releasing collections and not get sucked into the fast fashion culture. I am looking to hearing more from them.
