Portland has seen some nice, dry weather these last few days. And I’ve taken it as an opportunity to wear the things I don’t usually get to wear: white pants, light-colored shoes and hoodless jackets.
The other day I was feeling pretty unsure about these boots, and how they fit into the bigger picture of my own personal style. I was excited when I bought them (albeit somewhat impulsively) and they fit what I was looking for (warm, brown boots, comfortable for everyday wear). However, as fall and winter tick by, I have barely worn them.
Instead of immediately selling them (which I certainly pondered), I decided to immediately try styling them into an outfit. Aka, this one that I wore yesterday.

I ended up really liking this outfit; I felt like a warm-toned neutrals queen. I’ll keep trying with the boots and see how they work in other outfits I wear them with. Maybe I’ll like them more if they get a little more broken in.
Do you have any practical methods for giving items in your closet a second-chance? How do you know when it’s time to pass it on?

I busted out my dawn boots in the dry weather this week, too! I think the thing about these boots is that even with waterproofing, they just aren’t rainy day shoes. They are not rainy season street grime shoes. I am looking forward to trying these with spring skirts and dresses. Hang on to these puppies though, they’re soooo good!
I’ve been thinking about you Lindsey!!! Wondering how yours have been holding up. Almost sent you a text. Yeah, it’s so hard when shoes aren’t rainy day shoes. Dang rain! I agree, they are so gorgeous. Thanks for the encouragement!
I put items I’m unsure about in a bag right inside my closet door. If I find myself pulling the item back out in a few days or weeks, I give it a second change. If I find myself weeks or months later forgetting they are still in the bag, instead of already gone, then it’s time to give them a new home.
Oh, that’s so clever! I like this idea Rachel! It’s a great way to see if you’re naturally drawn to something. Good tip!
I LOOOOVE this outfit, Andrea! The boots are gorgeous. I keep track of what I wear every day in the Stylebook app, and after a while I’ll look at what items haven’t been worn in the past year and think about either working those items into new outfits or passing them on to others.
Thanks Kimi! That is a great tip about Stylebook. Do you find it time consuming at all?
I’m totally in love whit this boots <3
Thank you!! They really are cute! I need to stop being so lazy about wearing tie-up shoes! ><
I LOVE that jacket and those pants together – their lengths and colours are so complimentary. And the boots are fabulous!
