No-heeled.
This winter my shoes of choice have been decidedly casual compared to my selections of seasons’ past. My modest and lovely collection of (low) heeled boots is currently collecting dust in my closet while I favor flat boots and sneakers. (Don’t worry, I am certain I’ll get a taste for them again in the coming seasons.)
One thing (among many) that I love about wearing flat, casual shoes, is that I can up the ante on my clothing and never feel overdressed. It’s nearly impossible to feel overdressed in sneakers. Therefore I can go ‘all in’ on items like leopard print or a long, stately coat and not feel too ‘done up.’
Power Formula.
In fact, I’ve recently discovered a new ‘power formula’ – a tailored/dressy jacket and casual shoes. If you look at my ‘Jackets’ pinterest board you can see outfit upon outfit of women with smart top coats, jackets and blazers paired with flat shoes. My particular favorites are the ones that involve sneakers.
My version.
I wore this outfit last Monday and I loved it so much. It’s very chic to have exposed ankles, and maybe that would have looked better. But I also consider it very chic to dress weather appropriate, so I opted for some crisp, white socks. I like that it’s a bit unexpected and practical at the same time. The camel/umber/peat green is a new color combination for me, and while it stretches me a bit out of my neutrals-only comfort zone, I really like it. Right now I have the urge to wear more colorful combinations. I suspect that has something to do with being in the middle of a dark and gray winter.
The Classic Coat Camel (c/o the Curated).
This jacket is most certainly worthy of its own paragraph. After a fall of pinning oversized jackets (again, see jacket board) I’ve added one to my closet. And yes, it makes everything I wear look a heck of a lot cooler. This jacket is medium weight, and unlined, so it’s a true top coat. That means you need to layer well under it during extra cold weather. Though, at 30% cashmere and 70% wool, it packs a decent amount of warmth. It comes with a belt (and customizable belt loops if you’d like!) but, so far, I prefer to wear it open. I am wearing a size medium which is comfortably oversized without feeling sloppy. This coat is beautifully made and leaves an impression (without being too overt!).

I stumbled across a moss-green (that’s what I call it) colored tee not too long ago (in my favorite style tee)…it’s been a fun addition to my wardrobe! It’s brighter than a pine green, but not kelly green..seems kinda earthy! Anyway, I love it on you too!
Thank you Holly!!
Love this look on you!
I noticed that your jacket doesn’t have buttons, unless they’re hidden. I’m about to sew a linen jacket without buttons, so this confirms that it can work just fine.
Enjoying your blog…
Yes, no buttons, and I quite like it that way! I have a belt for it, but I rarely use it. I prefer it this way!
