Go bold.
When the days feel dark and dreary, go bold! That’s the wardrobe motto I’ve been living by lately. Embracing bolder styles (cheetah print, gold jewelry, chunky shoes) in the middle of winter makes bundling-up a lot more interesting.
The other day, a few of you on Instagram asked me to share an item that I’ve loved and worn for a long time. This black alpaca cardigan is in its 4th cold-weather season with me. I bought it from (now defunct) Zady in the summer of 2016. Because it is soft, warm, and drapey, it’s been in rotation ever since.
Sometimes I think we forget to embrace our clothing as it ‘breaks in’ with wear. We have this unnecessary expectation that everything is supposed to look brand new, even after countless wears. Perhaps if we anticipated the idea that clothing wears in a bit with time, we would feel a bit more satisfied with our wardrobe in the long run.
Dad Sneakers.
These shoes are a new concept for me. (Remember, I’m rarely an early adopter to trends.) I like them because the gum soles remind me of vintage style sneakers. I’ve finally come around on the idea of big, chunky sneakers. I never thought I would, but I kind of love them now. I wore them on a quick trip to LA over the weekend, and they were super comfy for travel. I love how happy my feet were, and I didn’t have to compromise on style.
Are you trying out any new trends this winter?
OUTFIT DETAILS:
Leopard Turtleneck, (L) Rachel Pally
90’s Jean (27), AGOLDE (size down)
Sneakers* (10.5), c/o Everlane
Alpaca Cardigan, from Zady, FW’16 (very similar)
Classic Shoulder Bag, Cuyana (sold out in black, but I love this option!)
*I should note, this is my second pair of Tread by Everlane sneakers. Since I got my first pair in April, they’ve added half sizes to many of the styles! My first pair was a little big, so I was excited to try a half size down. The fit is so much better!

Love this outfit, love this post and love this sentiment!! Definitely going to challenge myself to ‘GO BOLD!’ with some style this winter. Thanks Andrea! PS. I totally forgot about Zady lol but I still wear one of their t-shirts.
Right?! Too bad Zady went away! I really want to see you go bold friend! You would rock it! Thanks for the kind words on my post. xx
Ha! You took photos outside my home
That is too funny Debbie!!! The Pearl has the best spots for photos!
Love seeing you go bold! Great outfit. Maybe one of these days I’ll be cool again
Thanks friend! You are the OG bold stylist, and you could never be uncool!
As one of those IG commenters asking for more content on items in your closet you’ve loved for a long time, thanks!
You bet! I have been mulling it all over, and I think I have this tendency to want to share what is ‘new and exciting’ and those items naturally get more play on the blog and IG. I have a lot of items I’ve loved and worn over the years, but their ‘old hat’ nature means they are not top of mind to share online. But I will definitely be thinking about it a lot more!
