Everlane Sweater Review: My 3 Favorites

This post is sponsored by Everlane, an ongoing partner of Seasons + Salt. All ideas, content and opinions are my own.

This fall, Everlane released several new sweater styles, including soft, fuzzy and recycled options. These are in addition to their core styles from last year. All put together there are A LOT of sweater options on their site right now, enough to make even the most seasoned shopper feel a little overwhelmed.

Today, I want to help distill it down for you and share my top three favorites (plus one honorable mention later on IGTV!). I’ve been fortunate to try many Everlane sweater styles over the years and these are the ones I reach for over and over.

The Oversized Alpaca Crew – $95

This sweater has been a favorite of mine since it came out last year. I was gifted a black one after the launch, and have since bought two more.

I love this sweater because it has all the things I want in a garment.

Great Shape: I love the balloon sleeves and fitted wrists. The sweater is loose and drapey, almost blousey, but it’s not too big. I wear this in my usual size medium.

High-Quality Fibers: The Alpaca Crew is made primarily from alpaca (60%) and it also has nylon (30%) and wool (10%) for durability and added warmth. I have worn my sweaters many times over and the fibers look as good as the day I got them. And the whole garment has kept its shape nicely. Surprisingly, this sweater is not prone to pilling, but the overall look is fuzzy due to the nature of alpaca.

Function: This may be listed third, but it’s probably the number one thing I keep in mind when buying a garment. If it doesn’t function, what is the point?! This sweater is highly functional for me because it’s soft and warm, which means I reach for it constantly.

The Oversized Alpaca Crew features a slight rib, and is lightweight. I often wear this sweater as the main ‘star’ of an outfit. All you need is a pair of jeans and you’ve got a solid look. (For accessory ideas, see this post.)

My favorite colors are the heathered black and heathered java, but the charcoal twist and rose are pretty great too!

The Soft Cotton Crew – $50

I got my first Soft Cotton Crew about a year ago, and ever since it’s been a staple in my closet – in a totally different way than the Alpaca Crew.

I use this sweater as a layering piece, under blazers, chore coats, jean jackets, jumpsuits, etc. It is also a great option for pairing with anything wide leg (as seen here), due to the fitted shape.

Similar to the Alpaca Crew, it checks all the boxes for a garment that works well for me.

Great Shape: This sweater follows the lines of your body nicely, but still has a slightly relaxed fit. The high/low hemline looks great untucked, and is also easily tucked into most jeans.

High-Quality Fibers: There is a reason why I have more Everlane sweaters than any other brand, and that is because they are consistently made from high-quality fibers, which means longer lifespan and less pilling. This one is no exception. The Soft Cotton Crew lives up to its name and is 100% cotton.

Function: The big selling point for me on this sweater is that it’s washable. I can easily wear this sweater without a shirt underneath and toss it in the wash when I am ready. The tag says hand wash, but I have had good luck washing mine on gentle cycle, in cold water, with like colors, and drying flat.

Everlane Chore Coat, Day Boot, Soft Cotton Crew

The Soft Cotton Crew isn’t one of those items that is terribly exciting or sexy to buy because it’s a simple basic. However, it’s the type of item I can’t live without in my closet. (I bought it in black too!)

The ReCashmere Vintage Crew – $95

This style is new for Fall 2019. It’s part of Everlane’s ReCashmere line, which features sweaters made from recycled cashmere.

I was really drawn to these because of their vintage-esque fit. They have a snug waistband and raglan shoulder seams, and remind me a little bit of something my mom might have worn to high school in the 1970s. I’m a fan of these Vintage Crew sweaters for a multitude of reasons.

Great Shape: This style falls between the two sweaters above, in terms of shape. It can be worn as a stand-alone item because it has an interesting drape (from the fitted hemline) and shape (from the raglan seams) AND it is thin enough to layer under any jacket, blazer, jumpsuit, etc.

High-Quality Fibers: This sweater is called a cashmere sweater, but don’t let the name fool you. It’s 60% recycled cashmere, and the other 40% is non-mulesed wool (more on the practice mulesing here). This means it’s not as soft as regular cashmere, but it’s a heck of a lot heartier and less prone to pilling.

Function: These sweaters hold their shape really well and are easily styled as a layering item or stand-alone top.

The color selection of the ReCashmere Vintage crew is one of the best I’ve seen from Everlane. This Heathered Clay shade is my absolute favorite and I also love the Heathered Sand and Spiced Chai!

  1. How tall are you, Andrea? I tried on the Oversized Alpaca Crew last year but I couldn’t get it to work. It looks so cute on you! I’ve found that the ReCashmere Vintage Crew is more nicely proportioned for a petite, though.

    1. Hi! I am 5’7, that is probably pertinent info I should have included. I have broad shoulders too, so that could factor in. I agree, that ReCashmere Vintage Crew probably is the most petite-friendly option.

    2. I am 4’11” and wear the XS oversized alpaca crew weekly (sometimes more) during the cold months. I love it so much I want to get multiple colors. While the sweater is loose throughout the body, it has the fitted hem and I usually french tuck it into jeans for a more cropped look (like Andrea shows). I like slightly oversized tops because I usually wear skinny jeans. If you don’t care for oversized tops, then that might not work for you. I would suggest sizing down if you want a more fitted look, or go for the cropped alpaca cardigan, which is more fitted.
