Review: Nisolo Amalia Boot, the All Weather Boot for Women

Amalia All Weather Boot by Nisolo

Nisolo recently launched a menswear-inspired boot called the Amalia All Weather Boot. They are tall, sturdy and gorgeous. And true-to-form with Nisolo’s commitment to ethics, they are handmade in a family-run factory in León, Mexico.

I was recently gifted a pair by Nisolo to test out ahead of the launch, and was very excited to get my hands on them. Writing this review has been a long time coming but, I’ve been struggling to make myself do it because I realized I don’t love the boots. They are GREAT boots, but I think they are the WRONG style for me. Therefore I haven’t worn them a ton because I don’t feel like myself in them.

However, I have fielded a lot of questions over the last few weeks, and I wanted to finally get my insights together for you guys.

Do they really fare well in the rain?

Yes! They are made with a water-resistant waxed suede which makes the water bead off. They have a studded rubber sole that is waterproof and nice and grippy in wet conditions.

How’s the sizing? Also, did you have to break them in?

I took my true size 10. In other boots I’ve worn from Nisolo (like the Isa boot) I found the 10 to be a bit too narrow for my foot. In these boots, the 10 is nice and roomy. Plenty of room for thick socks.

I did not have to break them in, but I suspect the suede is softer than the other leather colors.

How wide would you say the Amalia boots are? They look lovely, but I have wide feet.

I have slightly wide feet and I find them very comfortable!

I’m debating the waxed suede but curious how to make them work for a more business casual look to have more options for workwear in the rain/winter.

This is where I get the most stuck with these boots. They are a very attractive shoe but are decidedly casual. I think they would be too casual for most professional settings and instead, lend themselves more for outdoorsy adventures or streetwear type styles. Between the leather and waxed suede, I think the leather styles look more dressy.

I’m interested in them as an every day / rainboot. What’s the verdict?

I think they make a great rainboot! I wouldn’t wade through standing water in them, but they are great water-resistant shoes for a casual outfit. They are warm too!

Is there any arch support?

Yes, a little bit. They are nice and comfy!

Do you find the olive colour difficult to pair with your clothes?

I find the olive reads more like a dark, chocolate brown. I don’t wear a lot of chocolate brown, so at times I do find it hard to pair with my clothes. I think the olive color looks best with black or light tones. The brandy colorway might be easier to style.

Nisolo Amalia All Weather Boot Review

Overall these are an extremely well-made pair of boots. They are beautiful and functional. The style is a bit of a miss for me, so I am not sure if I will keep them, but I will certainly continue to shop future Nisolo shoes. I am a big fan of their styles, quality and commitment to ethics. They are doing great work!

  1. But you look so cool in them! Thank you for this honest review. I still love the look. Just doesn’t get cold enough where I am to justify this specific purchase

    1. Haha, thanks Haj! You’re lucky you live somewhere that doesn’t get cold enough. It is SO COLD in the PNW right now. Brrrr!

    1. Happy to share my honest thoughts! Most of the time I can tell if I’m not going to like a product before I wear it, so it doesn’t make sense to keep and review it. This time was a little different I guess. Glad the review resonated for you.

  2. It’s sad that a menswear style that is considered professional when men wear them is considered casual when women wear them. I had been envying my male colleague’s boots and when I saw these, I was like, YESSSSS. I really like my pair and think I’ll get a lot of use out of them, but they’re not as warm in cold weather as I had hoped.

    1. That is so interesting Leah! Good point. It’s long bothered me that women’s ‘professional’ wear includes something as impractical as high heels. It makes zero sense to be expected to wear uncomfortable (and at times dangerous) shoes, seems like a terrible distraction. I will say I think oxfords work very well for women’s professional wear.

  3. Thank you for this honest review. I have been debating purchasing a pair in brown leather, or purchasing a second pair of my tried-and-true Blundstones (but with a heel!). I’m so torn because I love the idea of the laces and being able to wear them with dresses for a different and feminine look… but I also know I tend to wear boots I can slip on way more than my one pair with laces. Function over style! Still thinking it over here, but happy to read a review!

    1. Hi Martine! I do find laces slow me down from time to time, so you make a good point! I was thinking about a pair of those heeled Blundstones too! They look so cool, and I love how durable they are!
