Wearing simple (yet, well-selected) outfits is one of my favorite ways to dress myself, but photographing them is not easy. Often the elements that make the look come alive in person (the variegated yarn in a sweater, intricate jewelry) don’t translate well in photographs. But I’ll still try!
Side note: this fireplace is in the living room of our new house, and I love how minimal it is. I am, by nature, a cluttery person, so the lack of shelf or ledge above the fireplace helps keep the area ultra tidy and minimalist. It’s like a breath of fresh air in a house that’s still full of boxes, and always will be full of kid backpacks, toys and books.

I photographed the ‘outerwear’ version of my outfit too. I find it helpful to see how people style themselves, all the way down to the coat and bag of choice.
After looking at these photos I cleaned up the fringe on my pants because it looks like it’s eating my shoes, which are too cute to miss. This cold weather season, I’ve decided I’m all about the flat shoes. Heeled boots are fun and cute, and I’ll probably still wear them, but there is something so zen about wearing flats. I feel like I’m ready for all situations and never overdressed. These boots were my big splurge for fall. They are warm, comfy and uber cool. You will probably see lots of them on the blog this fall and winter. I am hoping they can be the base of many outfits during the cold months. Are you building your fall closet around any items in particular?

Love this look, Andrea! And LOVE your new house!!
Is this the alpaca crew from this season or last year? The sleeves this year look way more voluminous and I am trying to gauge what size I would be! :)
It’s from last year, but I bought one this year (in a different color) and the fit is the same. Love this sweater so much!!
Love the Freda Salvador boots! Yes, they are pricey, but as a teacher I am on my feet ALL day, and they are always comfortable! Mine are 4 years old and going strong. I wear them multiple times a week in fall and winter and they still look “new”. Incredibly well-made!
Woohoo! I love hearing this! I agree, I’ve never seen shoes made like this, there is no detail left unconsidered, they are pretty amazing! I love that your are still on high rotation, 4 years in.
I’ve been drooling over shoes from Freda Salvador for years but haven’t plucked up the courage to make a purchase! Do you find they run true-to-size and are comfortable for all-day wear?
I miss wearing this cozy sweater; what color did you purchase this year?
Same Krystal! Same! I had been eyeing them forever. Yes, they are very comfortable. The toes were ever so slightly narrow for the first few wears, but they’ve loosened up and feel great. They up the level on anything I wear them with. If you sign up for FS’s emailing list you can get a discount. And you can sometimes catch them on sale at Shopbop.
As for the sweater, I bought the chocolate colored one for this year!
I love this look, and your new fireplace is so pretty! Do you feel that you could have sized down to a small in the alpaca sweater, or would it fit too tightly? I am typically the same size as you in Everlane pieces, so I’m just curious if I should go M or size down to S :)
Hi Jenn! Thank you! I LOVE the fireplace. Simplicity at its best! I maybe could have sized down, but I worry it might be too snug in the shoulders. I like the oversized fit quite a bit! If you’re looking for a smaller fit, I’d try the ReCashmere crew neck! I just got that one and it’s super cute!
