Around the Web

I don’t believe everything I read online, especially on social media, but this post, shared after the horrific news of the last few days, has made me think and think.

The other day I read about Meghan Donovan’s skin care diagnosis on Wit & Whimsy, and it’s been really making me consider how I care for my skin (and my kids’) in the sun. We’ve been going to the pool a lot this summer, and I am taking extra time applying the sunscreen and bringing a hat for myself to wear in the pool.

Speaking of skin care, I shared about a new brand I’ve been working with called Eighteen B. Their moisturizers are made with a really cool B-silk protein, and it’s been really good for my skin. You can see my Instagram post here, and check my highlights for more details. (And in those stories I mentioned one of my favorite Norwex products, which a lot of you seemed interested in. Here is the link to the body cloth.)

Leah’s fall inspiration board is beautiful, and I love her 50’s meets 80’s approach. It makes me want to brainstorm my own ideas! Also, the sneakers she linked to, I totally remember my mom wearing those when I was a kid!

On the contrary, 7 reasons why Joshua Becker wears the same thing every day. I could almost get on board with this.

  1. Thanks for sharing my post!

And regarding Joshua Becker’s post, I think it’s a totally valid choice to have a uniform of sorts, but I always read these things feeling like the person who makes this choice doesn’t see fashion as fun, or doesn’t find a kind of artfulness in it. They don’t “get it,” so their advice is only so useful. And I find the idea that clothing is going to be the thing that pushes us into decision fatigue a little bewildering. I often suffered from decision fatigue when I managed a thrift shop, but in that space I was absolutely bombarded by questions, and needs were constantly changing. What I wore was one way I could claim my own decision-making, to decide something on my own terms instead of being blown by the whims and anxieties of others.

    1. That’s a great perspective, and I agree. For me I find outfits as a way to reclaim some control in the midst of busy life and raising three busy kids (aka chaos all the time!). Carefully selecting my clothes makes me feel grounded and connected to my own desires and self. I totally feel ya! But it’s always fun to read and ponder the other side of the coin. ;)

  2. Question about the Vetta dress: Does the wrap part stay closed? My issue with wrap dresses is often that they are too low or move around too much as the day goes on. Does it have a snap or anything like that to hold it all together?

I would also love to see the dress with the longer tier!

    1. Hi Tracy, it stays fairly well closed, but I do find myself adjusting the belt a bit throughout the day to make sure I have the coverage I want. I think adding a snap wouldn’t be a half-bad idea!

I will try and wear it long soon!! Thanks for the idea!
