They say that every dollar you spend is a chance to ‘vote’ for your values. This is especially true in the apparel industry. Our dollars can support safe working conditions, fair wages and sustainable initiatives, or they can support harmful working conditions, forced labor, and toxic environmental practices.
We can’t ‘buy’ ourselves into a better planet (and we shouldn’t over-consume in our quest to favor ethics in our wardrobes) BUT our choices have consequences and those add up.
As a style blogger who loves ethical fashion and feels strongly that we should NOT have to choose between style and ethics, I love to use my dollars and my voice to support brands who are doing a good job at both. Nisolo is a fine example of this.
In an effort to offset their carbon emissions Nisolo has taken steps to begin an insetting program, which allows them to ‘fight climate change within their own value chain’ and it’s had some incredible results. Take a look at the video. You can read more here too.
Thankfully, Nisolo looks good, while doing good.
I bought my first pair of Nisolos in 2015 and have been wearing their shoes ever since. The huarache style has long been a favorite. My first pair was Sienna, and last summer I bought a new pair in Almond.

In the spring of 2017 I got a pair of Marielle Mules, which have gone on to become one of my most worn shoes of all time.
I have worn them for countless photo shoots (they look good with everything) and have worn them over many miles of my life.

Last fall I participated in a really fun campaign with Nisolo and three other Portland bloggers. We styled Nisolo’s new Brandy line.

For this partnership I chose the Paloma Mules, which are very gorgeous. Over time, I found the heel a bit too high for me (I’m a flats girl at heart!) so I no longer own them. But my friend Paige has a pair, loves them, and wears them all the time!
And guess who else in my household has his very own pair of Nisolo’s (going several years strong!)?? Mr. Seasons!

Nisolo is clearly doing a lot of things right. They strive to take care of the people who make their shoes as well as the planet. Their actions match their values, as you can see in the video above. I love supporting them because I love the changes they are striving to make in the apparel world and the good things that are happening as a result.

Nisolo do make gorgeous shoes. I haven’t invested in a pair yet but it’s only a matter of time!
Exciting Sarah!!
I am thinking of getting a pair of huaraches but have sensitive feet and not really interested in breaking in new shoes.
How long did it take for you to break in your two pairs? Did you get your usual size? Do they stretch out a lot?
Hi Lucretia! They took a few weeks to break in. I sized down 1/2 size. They were very tight, but the thin leather straps stretched out quite a bit, and pretty quickly.
I finally caved over the winter and purchased some huraches from Nisolo when there was a sale. I’m so glad I did! They are SO comfortable and so much classier than a flip flop or other casual shoe. I love that I can “dress up” an outfit just a little bit and that I’m supporting a great business. I measured my foot according their chart and I’m glad I did because I got a size 7 and normally am a size 6. I would agree that they stretch out rather quickly but aren’t too loose. I’m really hoping that I can save up for a winter shoe from them!
Yay, that’s so excited to hear that you love them! I agree. I used to be a flip flops, all the time, girl in the summer, but it felt a little underdressed sometimes. You’re right, the huaraches are such a great option!
