Most years, my go-to summer outfit is shorts and a tank. And then I wonder why I constantly feel underdressed or too casual. Yesterday and today I took the time to iron and put on a ‘nicer’ top instead, and I felt a lot more ‘styled’ in my looks.
I was just telling my styling gurus (Paige and Jaana) the other day that these shorts are a little bit hard to style. They are generous in size and length so the top half has to be just right. I think the cinched waist from the tied top helps balance them. I really liked this outfit.

Today I was off to a long day at the zoo with a lot of kids so I was aiming for something cute and highly functional. Again, the top makes the outfit feel ‘finished’ and I really like that. I did notice all the other moms at the zoo were wearing Birkenstocks too, and for some reason that didn’t make me feel good. I think on some level I want to rebel against my peers and be ‘different.’ Or maybe I am apprehensive about seeming/getting old?
Please excuse the poor lighting here, my ‘outfit mirror’ got stashed away for a house showing yesterday, and I need to lug it back downstairs.
