Everlane Lately: Wearing + Wanting, Edition 02

This post is sponsored by Everlane. All ideas, opinions and content are my own.

Hello! Welcome to ‘Everlane Lately,’ my bi-monthly series where I check in with all things Everlane in my closet, including new releases and old favorites. Today’s post will cover:

1 // Which pieces are serving me well right now (currently wearing).
2 // What I’ve recently added.
3 // My thoughts on new arrivals/coming soon items.

If your habits are anything like mine, when you get online to make a clothing purchase, the first thing you do is head to google to see what the items in your cart look like on real life people. Reading different perspectives on fit and fabric, and seeing original styling can go a long way to sway me toward or away from a purchase. One of my main goals with the blog is to deliver the same kind of information to you. As always, if you have any questions about the products I’m sharing, ask away.

For reference, I am 5’7 tall, and my natural waist is 29.5″ and my hip measurement is approximately 39.5″.

CURRENTLY WEARING

The 90’s Jean:

After trying out several denim styles by Everlane over the last (nearly) two years, the 90’s Cheeky Jean is the one that has hit home the most for me. It’s surprising with the release of their new wide leg jeans (which are great, but run a little short on me). I shared my initial thoughts on the 90’s Cheeky Jean back in February, but I have even better perspective now, after wearing them for a few months.

I love the high waist, the light wash, and the excellent shape retention – they barely stretch out. I like wearing these because they are similar to my vintage denim, but have a high waist, which is really hard to find in vintage styles. These are great for pairing with tucked tops or shirts with a slightly shorter crop. For me, these are the new ‘skinny’ jean. The shape is slim, and pairs well with both fitted and oversized tops. The silhouette of the relaxed leg (from the knee down) feels like a fresh update on a skinny jean. I wear the 90’s Cheeky Jean in a 27 Regular, and find the waist to be slightly less tapered than the original Cheeky Jean.

Note: the 90’s Jean is currently sold out in a lot of sizes, but Everlane will have a restock at the end of summer.

The Wide Leg Cropped Chinos

The Wide Leg Chino has been a welcome addition to my closet. I received this black pair as part of a collaboration with Everlane, but I liked them so much I bought them in stone! The sleek lines through the hips (thank you slit pockets) and the smooth, soft, lightweight fabric is a winning combination.

The tricky part for me has been narrowing in on the correct size. My body shape always seems to fall right between a 4 and 6 or a 27 and a 28 in Everlane sizing. The same is true for these pants. The 6 (worn in these photos) is pretty relaxed and loose on me, especially through the butt and thighs. I bought my stone pair in a 4, and they fit great in the butt and thighs, but are definitely snug in the waist by the end of the day.

If you’re looking to try out the Wide Leg Chinos and are between two sizes, I recommend taking the smaller of your sizes.

The Shrunken Denim Jacket:

This jean jacket is the one closet item I never knew I needed. It’s shrunken – aka cropped – and dark, two things I don’t normally look for in a jean jacket. I tried it on a whim, and it’s officially de-throned my old faithful jean jacket. The dark denim and cropped shape look better with 90% of my wardrobe. I love the way the length of this jacket shows off my high waisted pants. But the real reason I keep wearing this jacket? It’s so comfortable! It somehow manages to be shrunken in style, and relaxed in fit – the arms are loose and the shoulders and unrestricted.

I’m wearing the Shrunken Denim Jacket in my true size: medium, in Dark Indigo.

The Day Heel:

The Day Heel is one of those incognito shoes that flies under the radar because it’s understated. But they always seems to lend the perfect final touch to an outfit because of the ultra flattering shape. (I haven’t seen anyone not look fabulous wearing these yet.) I bought this pair last January (2018) and I’ll be honest, I don’t wear them super frequently, but they are always my first choice when I’m looking to dress up a little bit, and they never let me down! I am wearing the Day Heel in a size 10.5.

WHAT I’VE ADDED

The Linen Picnic Top:

The Linen Picnic Top is a new release that I very recently tried out. It’s soft and textured, and I love the way it looks tucked into my high waisted pants. I think it will be a closet winner in these upcoming warm months for one key reason: it’s bra-friendly. I can get my dose of vitamin D (okay, let’s be honest, I can get my tan on) AND still have the coverage I need to wear a regular bra. I am wearing the Linen Picnic Top in a size 6. It also comes in Tomato Red and Washed Black.

The Air Cami (in Toasted Coconut)

Toasted Coconut is a new color for Everlane tees this spring and, as soon as I saw it, I knew I’d love it. It’s a gorgeous shade of warm brown and it comes in a two styles – the Air Cami (pictured here) and the Air Oversized Crew Tee. I am a big fan of the scoop neck on both sides, again perfect for some vitamin D, and this color, I’m 100% on board with. I’m wearing the Air Cami in a medium and the fit is oversized.

Crewneck Sweatshirt

I didn’t get a chance to photograph this one yet, but I recently picked up a crewneck sweatshirt in Rose, which is a subtle, dusty hue. The fabric is very soft and drapey, better than I expected. I got a size medium and I’m thinking about cutting off the bottom to give it a cropped length! Will keep you posted on this one for sure!

NEW ARRIVALS / OTHER ITEMS OF NOTE

TREAD by Everlane. You may have seen the new street sneaker by Everlane. They’re chunky, ultra modern in color, and aim to be one of the most sustainable sneakers in the marketplace. I picked a black and white pair to try out and recently took them on a trip to LA. I’ll share more in a future blog post, but I’ll say they are very comfortable. I’m not super into sneakers, but I loved wearing these for travel. My husband may or may not have picked up a pair in blush! (We both sized up.)

The Shirred Silk Shirt. If I worked in an office setting (or wore lots of silk) I would snatch this one up in an instant. The gathered sleeve detail is one of the prettiest and most feminine touches I’ve seen from Everlane yet.

    1. I know, I feel bad sharing about them when they’re mostly sold out, but I’m trying to share what I’m honestly wearing, not items I am hoping to sell. (I am sure you understand!) BUT, Everlane says they will be doing a restock at the end of summer!

  1. These outfits are so good, Andrea. I was on the fence about the chino but I’m pulling the trigger right now.

    1. Yay! I hope they work for you Alex. They are a great pant! A nice, lightweight alternative to Kamm pants, with a similar fit!

  2. I love your Everlane posts! Thank you for providing updates on items after you’ve worn them for a while, it’s rare to get that kind of info and it’s so helpful. The info on the wide leg chinos was especially helpful, andI love the black and toasted coconut combo. So great. I’m about to make a purchase and will use your links for sure. Cheers!

    1. Thank you Annie! I’m thrilled to hear you love these posts. I agree, it’s hard to find that kind of info. It also takes the pressure off me to understand and dissect the fit of the garment in a day or two. It’s nice to know how it’s going to work in the long term. Thank you so much for supporting the blog!! I hope your purchase works out well!

  3. You write the most helpful blog posts, even when sponsored. I am waiting for my everlane chinos in the mail, thanks to reading (re-reading even) your reviews and your response to questions. Really appreciate your long term and usually detailed write ups.
Really enjoyed this post, the pics are gorgeous. Looking forward to more!

    1. Thank you Haj, so much for this gracious comment! Input like this really helps fuel me in what I do! I am always striving to be as helpful, relatable and real as I can, and I am stoked when I hear about how I have been able to come through. I hope the pants are a home run for you!

  4. I ordered the Shrunken Denim Jacket after seeing it on you the other week and I LOVE it! It is giving me life! I think it will quickly become part of my uniform and my other jean jacket is off to the consignment store. Thank you so much for your style inspiration!!

    1. Yay!!!! I love hearing this. I am thinking about moving my other one on as well. It is pretty much collecting dust since I got the shrunken one – it’s so comfy!!

  5. I don’t know your political affiliations, but just a photo heads up— you are rocking a Melania Trump vibe in a major way with the no arms in your sleeves. This may be something you want, but if not, thought you may want to know.

    1. Haha, that’s pretty funny! I didn’t notice. But it doesn’t really concern me because there have been many before Melania, and there will be many after who rock that look. She certainly didn’t start it. ;)

  6. Thanks for this post, always love Everlane reviews! A few questions: I’m looking to purchase a pair of mules and wondering which you feel are more comfortable, the fortress of inca ones in this post, or the Nisolo Mariella mules you’ve reviewed elsewhere on this blog? I skew way more casual than not but comfort is essential in my book. If you could let me know your thoughts on these two styles I’d be grateful. Also: have you tried everlane’s day loafers and what’s your take on those if so? Would love a post dedicated just to everlane’s footwear. Thanks!

    1. Hi Ella, great questions!! I think the Fortress of Inca mules in this post (the Michelle) are more comfortable because there is a little more cushioning in the sole. The Nisolo ones are a little bit flatter, but it’s hard to beat the clean look of them! Let me know if you think of any more questions.
On Everlane’s footwear – it is so hit or miss for me! Mostly because many of their styles run too narrow for my foot. I do like their Day Boots a lot, and the Day Glove is really comfy. I did not try the Everlane Day Loafer, because I wasn’t feeling the look of it. If I were to wear a a loafer, I think I’d prefer the traditional style. But it looks comfy for sure.
