Okay, I didn’t actually wear wide leg pants every single day the past few weeks, but I can safely say I’ve figured out how to wear them comfortably in the cold. (Long socks and ankle-covering shoes.)
And it’s a good thing because old man winter finally showed his face in western Oregon. We’ve had a relatively mild winter (think temps in the 40’s and up, with dryer than normal conditions). All that changed in the last few weeks, we even had a ‘snow day.’
Here’s a look at what I’ve been wearing.
Black boots are one of those things I feel like I ‘need’ in my closet, but I don’t wear a ton of these days. This winter I’ve been way more into the light and warm tones, but on this day I wanted to give my black boots a little love. Note the heather texture of this sweater, a favorite detail of mine!
I can’t believe it took me so long to stumble upon this outfit combination. I love how warm the color of this blue sweater is, and of course I love the blue-on-blue combination. Dressing in various shades of one color is the easiest way I know to look pulled together with minimal effort.
Balloon sleeves, undershirts and clog boots keeping me warm in the middle of the week.
Living my winter-whites dream. Sometimes wearing all white feels risky, and some days it does not. In case you missed it, I wrote all about how I keep my whites clean. And yes, I wear them around my kids.
Pretending I’m back in the 1990’s, but as grown up me instead of 10-year-old me. It’s weird to be old enough to see fashion you remember so clearly come back full circle. It’s even weirder to like it. I loved the layering of this outfit, a nice change up from my sweater parade.
I finally landed on a pair of brown pants. I have mixed feelings about the price of them, and I’m working on a blog post featuring wide legs pants for different budgets. For now I’m crossing my fingers that these serve me as well as my blue pair have. After I break them in (eep!).
Snow was in the forecast on this day, so naturally I put on a dress. Actually, I’ve been reading a novel set in 1940’s France, and I was inspired to see if I could stay as warm in the winter in a dress as the characters in my book. Turns out I can. Woolen stockings and an alpaca cardigan go a long way to retain warmth!
This outfit is an interesting juxtaposition to the day before. It’s similar in fit (loose and comfortable), silhouette (hourglass), and function, but it’s entirely modern compared to the old-world feel of a long dress.
On another note: I haven’t worn this sweater in quite some time, and almost parted ways with it a few weeks ago. Finally, I gave it a little shave, and it is as good as new!
Girl, this was a bomb outfit week!! I love a good turtleneck under a button up. Plus monochrome outfits are always a good choice! Very inspiring and fun without being fussy or overly styled. (I also like how you mixed up the angles on these photos/where they were shot and included some close ups :))
Thank you so much Alison! And fussy/overly styled is definitely not my thing!! Thanks for noticing, haha. On the changing of angles, I was starting to get seriously bored about the repeated shot styles, so I figured if I was, some of you likely were too. Thanks for the compliment! :)
I am loving all of the sweaters! What book are you reading? Thoughts so far?
Hi Megan, it was the Nightingale by Kristin Hannah, I highly recommend it!
OMG, those monochromatic outfits are so beautiful! I can’t say which one I prefer, the blue, the white, the off-white. This totally give me Kamm Pants FOMO :D
Hi friend!! The Kamm pants are pretty sweet, but they are not without their own challenges! I like them because of the long inseam, which is hard to find with wideleg pants.
I love your Levis! I’ve scoured the internet for a good vintage pair but just have not had any luck!

Thanks! Etsy is usually a pretty good place, have you tried there?
What happened to your other pair of brown Kamm pants? I’m looking forward to your upcoming wide leg pants post too!
Hi Sophie! I sold my darker brown shade because I couldn’t get the sizing quite right. That color way runs small, so I purchased an 8, which were ultimately too big. So I had them taken in, but they were still overall too big in the rise and length. A little frustrating for sure, but thankful they have a pretty good resale price.
The blue on blue with the brown boots…I gasped! It’s my new favourite. I MUST try this out for myself! You’ve inspired me to try something different…being in Canada I haven’t worn a dress since October but maybe with just the right amount of layering I can make it work!
Yay! I hope you have fun experimenting in your closet! I confess i saw the blue on blue somewhere else (can’t remember where!) and was totally inspired to try and recreate it. I loved it too!
Love your outfits and the way you make the wide leg pants work in winter.
After some years eying, I finally order the Florence Pants of Elizabeth Suzann and the wide leg cropped pants of Everlane last fall.
But I find it hard to make good combos with them.
Maybe they are the wrong size (I find both of them rather overwhelming), maybe I just didn’t find the right items yet to make them work.
I hope I can make them work for spring (more skin, less heavy textures to make combinations with).
Looking forward to your post about wide leg pants.
I think it’s definitely easier to style wide legs when you can show skin wear lighter layers. But, I’ve found if I play my proportions right I can make them work in winter too. Having a fitted top is key (like a slim sweater) and then if you layer over that, it works well if the layering piece is long and slim. For shoes it helps if they are fitted at the ankle, like converse or ankle boots. I wrote a post on in awhile back, though most of my examples are from the spring!

That is very helpfull, thank you!
Where do you get your woolen stockings? I’m having trouble finding good quality ones that aren’t just black.
Hi Jessica, I have typically had good luck at Anthropologie. They carry a lot of tights that are made in Italy. There is also Smart Wool too.
SUCH a good week of outfits!! I especially love the “blue look” with the Everlane Alpaca and the Kamm pants. I struggle this time of year to put together outfits that feel fresh and exciting, and reading your posts inspire me! Thanks as always :)
Aw thanks, that’s such a nice thing to say. I’m doing my fair share of struggling too. It’s been so gray and cold lately, all I want to do is burrow without thinking much about style.
What sweater shaver do you recommend?
The one I have came free with a sweater from Grana, but it’s very similar to this.
I have to admit, hearing about your struggle with the sizing of Kamms across colors does make me feel a little better haha. I sold my dark blue denim sailors, which were a touch too small compared to my former canvas pair, and then got the ranger instead. I went one size up for the ranger cut and they were still too small, but the next size up and they’re just a tiny bit too big. I might just get the waist taken in and call it a day. I wanted to try the Skintone 34 based on all your gorgeous styling with them, but maybe not worth the struggle! Your navy pair with the blue sweater is so so good.
Bev!!! So nice to see your face around here! I miss your outfits on the ‘gram, but deeply respect your choice to stop. The sizing issue is rather annoying, isn’t it?! The skintone 34 is so pretty, but if the traditional sizing works well, then the skintone may be tricky for you. Sometimes I just want to give up and live in elastic waistband bands forever, haha.
Hi Andrea! I love the simplicity of your wall mirror! Where did you get it?
Thank you for the different shades of the same colour outfit tip! I have to try it! Blue fits ypu perfectly :)
I’ve been struggling with wearing wide legged pants in the rain! I live in Seattle, and it’s not usually too cold, but with all that extra fabric, my pants end up more wet than I’d like :( Unfortunately, that’s just the way it will be here, but I look forward to dry days for sure!
